Linked to Leicester's DM - Ndidi.

Young, AFCON potential & seems to be decent on the ball too.

A replacement for Can? Or the DM we've been craving for years?

Shouldnt this thread title be 'Yes Ndidi' ?

Hes a better destructive midfielder than Can, reads the play well and breaks up oppositions attacks. He lacks Cans ability on the ball though, hes really just about winning it and giving it to somebody else.

Isn't that all our midfield needs to really do (especially the two behind the more advanced MF)? I mean, you have salah, mane, bobby & keita/ox whatever, win the ball, give it to them, celebrate! :)

I really like him as a player, and still only 21. Leicester bought him for 17 mill, so God knows what they want for him.

But yes, sign!

I'm not a fan of pure "defenders" in midfield, however I haven't seen enough of Ndidi though to make that judgement. I think he has a decent long-range shot on him, but for an attacking team midfield is too important to have a mediocre passer in there. Again, though, I'm not sure I've seen enough of Ndidi to appreciate how well-rounded his game is.

There was this tweet in Jan 2018 which pointed out that he has made the most tackles in Europe’s top five leagues this season.

A follow up look at the stats shows he's leading the way (avg. 4.2 per game)

His passing impressed me against Chelsea. Some decent long range passing but also kept it simple after he won the ball.
Still, only 21, so there is loads of potential there.

He's also very good in the air, athletic and covers a lot of ground. Shame we didnt buy him from Genk in all honesty...

How come @Kay Age El never told us of #3 on this list? I thought we knew about every single mildly promising Danish player on the planet and here's a midfielder in the top 3 tacklers in Europe who totally slipped below the radar! Disappointing, very disappointing...

:)

I think if we really want to take the next step up, our CM needs to have two players capable of playing penetrating passes between the lines.

We need this to feed the attack quicker and better possession. But we also need more quality in possession.

Look at City this season, they have two creative players in CM in De Bruyne & Silva. If one can't play then they still have Bernardo Silva who can come in and do the same job.

Coutinho would offer this for us, although he would leave gaps defensively, we got exploited at times (Sevilla away). Naby can do what Coutinho did, but without leaving the gaps defensively. However as Klopp said himself, at times we gave the ball to Coutinho too much, we were too reliant on him as it was too easy to just give him the ball, rather than playing the right pass to another teammate. This is what we don't want to happen with Keita - the rest of the CM just giving him the ball all the time to feed the front three. That's the tough thing about City, you've got Silva and De Bruyne capable of feeding the front three with quality ball and it is too much for the opposition to cope with stopping both of the balls capable of doing it.

Ndidi should he come, would be a Mascherano type. Brilliant without the ball. But we'd still need the two ballers alongside him. We have one in Keita, I think Jorginho would be brilliant as the other one, who we have been linked with.

Personally I feel & hope Ndidi is just the option should Emre Can leave. For that reason, with Jorginho hopefully arriving regardless. If that is the case, my preference is to keep Emre, as it would save us spending the fee Leicester would demand.

Vs Man U we saw why we need our CM to do more than just break up the play and feed the front three. You have to have craft to break down these defences. We saw it vs Swansea away as well. Or Sevilla away when we needed our CM to keep the ball when we were 3-0 at half time, but all of our CM crumbled in possession that night. Ndidi offers graft, which our CM has plenty of at the moment, as we restrict the opposition to hardly any shots on our goal. What we need to really enhance this team is more craft and I don't want us relying on Keita to do that single handedly. Which is why we need our new Alonso, Klopp needs his new Gundogan / Şahin - which is why I think the Jorginho links make sense.

If we get Ndidi, I'm hoping it's merely the replacement for Can should he not sign a new deal. I really hope it's not as a Jorginho alternative.

Or is he?
Reports from Morocco, venue of the African U-17 Championship Saturday evening said that three players of the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria have failed the MRI test conducted by the Confederation of African Football, CAF on all the players playing in the competition. MRI test, which can accurately determine the ages of players, conducted on Friday showed that two defenders and a striker were above the age limit for the competition. The affected players are Wilfred Onyinye Ndidi (Nath FC, Lagos), Ibrahim Abdullahi (Sardauna Academy, Kano) and Emmanuel Asadu (Amuneke Academy).
It was gathered that CAF has ordered that the three Nigerian players be excluded from participating at the Under 17 African Championship which kicked off Saturday. Their omission from the tournament has now reduced the Golden Eaglets players to 18 players. Ademola Olajire, Assistant Director (Media) of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, told P.M.NEWS Sports Saturday evening on telephone that the news from the Eaglets’ camp in Morocco was true, adding that the earlier report was that no player was affected. He said the Media Officer of the team has been directed to issue a statement on the unfortunate. He assured that the incident would not affect the morale of other players as they prepare to face Ghana in Sunday'ss first group match. {read_more} The Golden Eaglets, three time world champions, are also pitted in the same group with, Congo and Cote d’Ivoire. An earlier report was that all Nigerian players were cleared by the test. There were also reports of MRI test failure by three players each from Ivory Coast and Congo, out of the other seven participating countries.
CAF on Friday conducted a on all players to verify that they fall within the U-17 years age bracket before the start of the African Junior Championship. The bone density of wrists of the players was scanned to ensure an accuracy of at least within one percent under the age 18. This represented the margin of error for the tests so players don’t get unduly disqualified. The practice was first introduced by the continental governing body at the 2011 tournament in Rwanda where eight Gambian players failed the inaugural test. Meanwhile, former Eaglets’ coach, Alphonsus Dike, has predicted victory for the Nigerians against their West African arch-rivals, the Black Starlets of Ghana.

There are so MANY to pick from mate this day and age, but yeah that's just sloppy from my part.. sorry.

HOWEVER, I haven't seen him as one for us in the past and even though I don't watch any Ligue1 I doubt this last season has changed my point. He's the type of player that has gone completely under the radar, playing for a minor club in Denmark and then out of the blue sold to Belgium where he instantly became a hit. Then he moved on to Ligue1 and got capped for Denmark and is what seems to be a certain pick in the squad now. He won't play much unless there's injury to Thomas Delaney whom I think would be a better call for us out of the two if I had to pick.

They are very similar types, loads of energy and covers tons of ground, tough tacklers and are also both quite dangerous in front of goal. Engine room players - with a bit of flair and instinct.

Lerager highlights from his first season in France;

PS Ndidi looked pretty great the few time I've seen, calm, composed and a real octopus-type of player in central.

Btw, an alternative thread title

Can Ndidi be our Hamann

I don't get a god vibe from him. He's a good tackler and breaker up of play but I don't see him as being very capable of taking the game to the opposition. This might mean he would only be suitable for games where we expect to be attacked as he would offer very little against the 75% of clubs who park the bus.

I think thats always likely to be the case for a purely defensive CM. But its a squad game now you dont rely on 11 players to win a title.
