Stan Collymore has vowed to walk away from broadcasting if Gary Neville can find footage of him diving to win a free kick or penalty.

Neville tweeted that all players have dived at some stage in their career to win a free kick or penalty. Collymore doesn't agree and has given Neville the challenge of using 20 years of Sky's footage at his disposal to find a clip. Neville seems willing to do so to prove him wrong.

Surely Neville will find footage of Collymore in the archives but I doubt Stan will walk away from broadcasting. Are we on Team Neville or Team Collymore here?

Team Neville in this case, and I'd add that being unable to find footage of Collywobble diving doesn't mean he didn't do it.

I'm sure you're right about him not walking away - unfortunately. He loves the sound of his own voice far too much.

Hit women or diving? Think old Collyflower should have prioritized a bit different there.

Tough one to call.

Collymore is as crazy as they come and I've learnt through experience that sometimes, the crazy ones are the most honest ones.

It just shows Collymore is thick as fuck. You never enter into a wager where you have nothing to gain in one outcome, and everything to lose in the other.

On the topic of Collymore, Roy Evans was doing a Q&A on Twitter the other night. Someone asked him what happened to Collymore after 18 months at LFC and Evans' reply along the lines of 'that's a whole other question' insinuated that there's quite a story behind it. Anyone have any idea?

I always agree with Collymore about diving so im with him.
All this 'But there was contact' bollocks is a joke.
I assume this is brought up because of the Costa incident. When he dived. And was rightly booked.

If you fall down under contact it isnt a foul. If you fall down BECAUSE of the contact it is.

And the worst, most tragic argument is the 'he was running at pace, the slightest contact....etc'
Anyone who uses that argument (usually forwards who dived a lot) is a cunt.

Evans' daughter.

Thats not a dive!!
He trips over his own feet then hops up and claims fuck all.

That's an oversimplification IMO. If a defender makes contact without (a) the intention or (b) the possibility (or both) of getting the ball, it's a foul. It may or may not end up causing the player to fall, but failing to do so doesn't make it any less of a foul.

If a player is fouled or is being fouled and don't go to ground most referees are reluctant to give anything. You can see why people go down when they're being pulled or tripped or something when staying on their feet wins them nothing, despite the fact that they are being impeded.

Takes a brave ref to give a foul if the player hasn't gone to ground. So you can see why players do fall over in a heap.

It's a murky area. It can be a dive and a foul. And often is.

Aston Villa vs Liverpool 12 minutes 58 seconds in looks like a collymore dive to me!
Collymore ended up getting sent off after 2 yellows for a disgusting tackle on harkness and then reacting to a bad tackle by owen. He also missed a sitter.
Great game which the reds won 4-2. Fowler hat trick and Ince the scorers for us. 21/11/98

Ive got no problem with players going down when they have been pulled or tripped. I do have a problem with a player pretending to trip as soon as there is any physical contact.
Costa last night was a perfect example and the ref got it spot on.

It's when a player clearly moves his foot towards the defender in order to go down. They're the ones that should be booked. The rest, with the speed of the process, the delicate balance of the player and also the need to avoid injury, refs shouldn't presume too much about such incidents.

Reminds me of Phil Liggett the cycling commentator who was firmly jammed up Lance Armstrongs crack, he used to defend Armstrong to the hilt and said if he ever gets found guilty of doping he will give up his commentary career.

When it happened he made his excuses that he had contracts to honour and that he can't walk away from them and if he could he would blah blah blah.

Collymore is a blithering fool. Can't listen to him unless I fancy something funny to listen to .
