Who's going to be?

Southgate doesn't exactly inspire confidence long term, surely they can't be stupid enough to hire Pardew or Bruce and it's waaaaayyy to early for Eddie Howe.
There's a part of me leaning towards Wenger being a serious possibility. Southgate is in charge for the next 4 and the only other game before the summer at home to Lithuania and that would take us to the summer when Wenger could finish up with Arsenal. At this stage Arsenal could do with a change too.

I don't think there is such a thing as a permanent England manager. It's whoever gets the job before they're exposed as a big fucking whopper and we can all move on again...

They should pick someone who has the balls to drop Rooney.
Also, someone who clearly sees that Sturridge is better than Kane.

Said in another thread, but Eddie Howe seems to have something about him.

It would be an astonishing show of confidence given he's proven precisely nothing so far in his two year managerial career.

Mind you, neither has Southgate.

Who's the last succesful English manager?
Basically who's the last one who won something significant?

Its going to be a hard choice considering most of the main English candidates are likely to be caught up in the same bung scandal as Fat Sam.

What conditions are they exactly?

Before employing Fat Sam, they basically said the wanted an experienced manager who had won stuff. Someone with a reputation, so that if it went tits up, it would be on the manager rather than the FA.

So yeah, the FA are riddled, still.

It's not that easy to define success when it comes to England managers.

Was Capello a success?
Capello is a successful manager at club level obviously, which got him the job.
Wouldn't call his England career a failure though. Getting knocked out by Germany in the world cup was his worst result.

Like I said before Fat Sam was appointed, I think Hoddle is a decent option.

If it's going to be a foreign manager it should be someone who has managed in England.
Rafa would have been a great choice. Cup expert.

If a foreign coach is to be considered, I think Marcelo Bielsa is worth a punt.

Yes, he seems the calming, rational and popular influence that the FA needs right now.

On the plus side, he can't speak English, so is unlikely to be caught up in any national newspaper stings.

How fair is it to judge Biesla based on the (mis)doings of the Marseille and Lazio board? I guess the (then) Chile Federation and Athletic Bilbao board probably won't mind his time with them.

With the next major tournament in 2 years time, is there not enough time to pick up the language too?

Anyway, as worded, "worth a punt". The FA can go for "safe bets" for all they want - like it's been working for them.

Brendan Rodgers maybe? I dunno, seems to be quite happy at Celtic and he's only just gone there.

Anyway, it's Southgate's job unless he fucks it up.

Or Hodgson. Or Allardyce. In other words, it doesnt look like it matters to much.
