I think I'm right in saying the season starts this week with the Steelers and Patriots + Tom Brady.

I'm looking forward to it immensely.

I think half the reason I like it is the player names. I'll be cheering for Frostee Rucker this season.

Eagles looked good as usual in pre season but they'll probably choke down the stretch again.
Packers to win the lot for me.
Falcons as the sleepers.

I wonder will Luck take another big step forward this season and propel the Colts to the Superbowl?

They've got some issues on defence, but Luck throwing to Andrew Johnson, Hilton and Moncrieff should be good enough. Frank Gore is the Rb this year too which is an upgrade.

After being a half hearted 49'ers fan recently I'm switching my allegiance this season to the team my in laws support. The Packers.

The Colts will win their division but don't think they've enough to trouble Pats or Baltimore in the playoffs.
49ers look in a bad mess.
They're 50-1 this year to win the Superbowl which is incredible considering they've been amongst the favourites for the past 4 seasons.

That Ohio State QB situation, turns out it isn't complicated after all. Cardale Jones starts with his cannon, and Miller switches to some sort of H-back/do whatever the fuck you want. I mean...

Braxton Miller, you are ridiculous.

Pack have nelson out for the year and cobb is banged up - they'll not have it so easy.

boys have a good team and expectations, which means let down ...

Some are saying Hayne probably won't feature much, but you've gotta love this:

So the Patriots start with a win.... Who cares?

I was wide awake last night so watched a few hours of this seasons hard knocks.

I love the attitude of NFL players. I wish our players had something similar.

Watchin JJ Watt flipping the 450kg tire was pretty impressive. That his record doing it is 65 times is insane.

Steelers can move the chains in a flash but the defence looks a shambles especially the secondary.
Polamalu in a wheelchair would be better than those cunts.
The hard knocks are great.
The cutting of the roster was fun from this side of the fence but must be horrific for the players and coaches.

Yeah I think I was laughed at when I wondered whether Mariota v. Winston was similar to the Luck v. RG3 debates around draft. A clear win for Mariota yesterday.

Winston is in good company in throwing a pick 6 with his first ever NFL pass attempt - Bretton Favre was the last to do it.

I got to watch some of the Packers game. The Bears were not terrible, and they tried some new ideas with Cutler that might bear fruit.

Surprised at the Colts being beaten by the Bills, maybe Rex is a genius

I don't remember this whole Luck vs RG3 debate. LTW mentioned it last year. I can't believe anyone would have been stupid enough to advocate for anyone other than Luck that year.

Week one is obviously a little early for the whole Mariota/Winston thing, but it played out like an extreme version of what everyone thought - Mariota would look good in a system tweaked to suit him. He' smart, makes good decisions, and should grow into the pro game. And despite his arm talent, Winston makes dumb decisions, dumb throws, struggles to read defences (the picks were bad), and has questionable backbone.

On paper, neither team is great, so it's only going to get harder for both. Mariota and the Titans can be hopeful, especially if they keep being smart. Mariota only threw 16 times. They tended to be short, quick deliveries (although he made a couple of good checkdowns), and they didn't have him running about like he did in Eugene. Bishop Sankey is going to be a big help. They protected him well and used him smartly.

Winston is surely going to get better, although they have an inexperienced line in front of him and I think he could fall into the trap of trying too hard. With his poor reading, secondaries could have fun with him.

Bishop Sankey is another on my list of players I cheer on simply because of their names

Randy Gregory looked very good, shame he got injured. Bryant out for 4-6 weeks aswell.

bryant out for 4-10 weeks
romo breaks clavicle - out for ~10 weeks

cowboys season over unless this defense (when hardy + mcclain return) can pull a tampa (when they had gruden & dilfer)
odds? 0.05%

Redskins,Jags,Bucs and the Raiders win on the same day.
Now that's a betting coupon I'd like to have.

Didnt need surgery so it looks like 6-8 weeks.

Gruden had Brad Johnson. Dilfer won his ring with the Ravens. Both championship journeymen, I suppose, but interesting careers. Dilfer at least had college pedigree. He was a Sammy Baugh winner and an AP All-American, and was a top ten pick. Can he count as a bust when he won a ring? Johnson started more games as a kick holder than a quarterback for the Seminoles (also started more games for the basketball team than the football team, I think). Johnson was the more reliable pro, though. Hell, Dilfer only played half a season for the Ravens, and probably started more games that year than he did any subsequent year of his career. He'll go down in the record books for that 96 yard touchdown "throw" in the AFC title game to Shannon Sharpe, of which Sharpe ran about 95 and a half yards.

Tell you what though, bet the Ravens wished they'd re-signed Dilfer instead of going with Grbac the following season.
