This is a bit like when the ox was being interviewed after arsenal got humped by west brom. One the goals were clearly his fault but it was a case of the ‘team’ must do better.
I think it's because Lallana is two footed, which has many advantages, but in front of goal it means he doesn't know which foot he is going to shoot with until the ball is under his nose. Then the panic and confusion follows as he tries to decide something in a fraction of a second, which led to that pathetic attempt to make contact with the ball.
I know, but let's play devils advocate here, our forwards have a tendency to look at the width and height of a goal and will aim for the part most likely to repel their shot, be it straight at the goalkeeper or the post, or the bar, or they might even hit it wide.
Let's face it, we're not the most clinical of teams in terms of being individually prolific. So no, there were no guarantees that had he connected, it would have gone in. Sure it might have increased the likelihood, but he could have just hit it at the keeper, which would have been as equally likely.
