Post match - Spurs.

Why do people get so arsey about post match criticisms? Isn't that what a post match thread is about? Sure, praise the good bits, but there are clearly problems still there and burying our heads about it is daft. We kept a clean sheet, great, but we were lucky to in many respects and Lovren/Sakho aren't the God-sends that a few posters seem intent on having us believe. Lovren's made about half a dozen errors in three games.

Coming from you of all people?

*faints*

Sakho is a big worry, he's poor on the ball. It's ok saying statistically his passing is good, that's because he passes it 5 yards, he's erratic and indecisive.

Wait what?

When I mentioned it last season it lead to a forum meltdown.

Whirly you have quite obviously got an agenda against Lovren. You have come into this thread with an "I'm right and the rest of you can fuck off with your opinions" attitude.

We restricted Spurs to one shot on target but our centre back (playing only his third match for us, moving to the right side to accommodate his second central partner) was shit and we were lucky not to concede 3. Fucking hell!

Apart from when he kept lunging forward to attack the ball and ended up getting either caught underneath it or losing the challenge. He made a couple of great last ditch tackles, but they were a consequence of him fucking up. He did alot of good, but he's doing what Skrtel used to do, rushing out and attacking the play but occasionally getting caught in no mans land, we got bailed out a couple of times today because Gerrard, Henderson and Allen (along with the fullbacks) were alert to anyone getting in behind, we've seen us easily fuck up under the same circumstances in recent games.

i think that's my issue , skrtel , sahko and lovren are all a bit too gung-ho for me and don't convince they're composed ,will stay on their feet etc . But maybe i am just old fashioned in what i believe a defender should be . Carragher and neville spoke about this last season , how we like our defenders to do the simple thing and basics well whereas these days defenders are all a bit more kamikaze in their style .

Sakho was pretty bad. And this was coming from someone who wanted to give him a chance to see if he worked better than Skrtel with Lovren.

He made at least 4 serious mistakes, and his awkwardness on the ball is a major worry in tight spaces.

Lovren started quite poorly it has to be said, but I think that was a consequence of a new position and a new partner.

He was excellent in the second half though. Although perhaps Spurs' lack of fight in the last 30 mins was as good a reason for us keeping a clean sheet as Lovren.

Sakho got better as the game went on aswell. Which is pretty natural in your first start. Drawing any conclusions from todays game is pointless. I saw more than enough from our back 5 today that I hope we see them play together for loads of games in a row.
Thats what we need.

Most of Spurs attacks towards the end of the match came on out right side if I remember correctly.

Lovren whiffed on 2 or 3 opportunities when he was one on one on the wing with an attacker and allowed him to go by no issue. For me, those are fatal errors.

Lovren conceded what could've been a pen after the Allen pen was given. He also left his position a few times to charge out and attack balls he should've had nothing to do with. He also did a Cruyff turn in our box while being closely pressed by a defender.

These aren't really incidents I'm pulling out of thin air either, they all individually happened. Adding them all up, it was a worrying display at the least.

The fact that all of this was completely overlooked by a large number of people who responded here, who claimed Lovren had a fantastic game MOTM game, means that people are giving him way too much slack for being the prototypical player for us on paper.

For the record, I though Sakho was okay. He seemed to be the more reliable player in the second half especially, but had a mediocre first half. But overall, he and Moreno did well to shut off a lot of the attack on the left, something Manquillo/Lovren failed to do on the right, especially on the break.

I thought we played well. We weren't consistent throughout though and gave Spurs a lot of the possession which is to be expected considering that we were playing away.
Two players weren't on par today. Sakho and Gerrard. I'll leave it at that.
Allen and Hendo worked their socks off in midfield.
I felt that Balotelli did OK but I saw some laziness creeping in before he was subbed. Might not be match fit.
Lovren, Manquillo and Moreno were great.
Sterling and Sturridge ran the show. Sturrdige could have done better at times, looked like he desperately wanted to score today.
Nice cameo by Markovic...again.

Surprised that Brendan left Coutinho on the bench.
Good to see Enrique back.

Great save by Mignolet to deny Chadli.

Rodgers said balotelli wasn't fully fit. So I'll forgive him, he worked hard for the most part

And I'm surprised but glad Coutinho was dropped. He's been wasteful so far this season

why are you surprised about Coutinho?
Hes been wank.

Yes, from 1 game by an unfit defender. Much worse than our 3m defender who's just left

Fabs, I called it last season. If really hope he turned into Hyypia during the summer in order for your theory about rustiness to be true but I seriously doubt that. Sakho has a lot of strength but passing and controlling the ball just isn't his forte. Get over it.
He can still be a colossus for us and it might seem wrong to think I'm right but you'll feel better when you've crossed that bridge I promise.

Hang on

You're wrong

Only you would bump a thread that makes YOU look like a massive cunt.
Unbelievable Jeff.

Can't bump it, it's locked. Wouldn't consider bumping it anyway and hey, Ryan does it too.

It just astonishes me that when I say it, people feel provoked but now that it's obvious it's generally accepted. Just goes to show that I do know a little bit about footie after all.

And a lot about being a thick cunt.

Did you paste in the correct thread? That thread just makes you out to be a loon with your Carragher agenda??

Both Lovren and Sakho made mistakes today. For a periods we were in familiar chaos and whilst Spurs may have had only one shot or whatever, we all know they could've scored a couple had they been more clinical.

Lovren does look classy but he is fallible. Yes, excuses can be made because it's Sakho's first game in and their first as a partnership but it's still entirely reasonable to point out that we weren't "solid" at the back. Lot of work to be done on that front.

Totally Ken. Nobody has said different though.
