Post match - Spurs.

I loved the frame below from yesterday's game, so I took a screenshot from the above clip. This was after Balotelli's miss from distance with Lloris stranded. Loved the way Rodgers was grinning at Balotelli's endeavor and applauding his effort from start to finish for that opportunity.

Also, did anyone else find Lamela very annoying yesterday? Seemed like he had a scowl on his face and was a moody and pouting bitch the whole game. Topped with a ridiculous air stewardess flight cap on his head.

When we have a clean sheet, it says more about the opposition's attack, than our defending on most days.

Today was one of those days, a clinical Spurs side makes this a close affair.

I think that's utter tosh.

Spurs where outplayed all over the park and our defence over-powered their attack.

Interesting that a broad spectrum of reviews rate the 2 CB's performances as in the range between 6 and 8 points - with the general comment that, despite a few errors, both played well, where strong and recovered from mistakes well.

I thought they both played well - given that this was the first time they'd played together competitively as a pairing.

Add in that 3 of the back four are all new to the club - I think we should consider this a very encouraging performance.

Have a look at the CB pairings for every other team bar Chelsea & Man City - we're not badly stocked.

Yep. I thought the same.

I also noticed that Mario shot during the game (with a smiling BR in the background) - I was not as forgiving as BR because it was a pretty awful attempt !

Christ, I'd hate to see the rating if we got battered

Haha, I don't add 1 point to every player's rating just because we win. Or substract one when we lose. I think it's entirely OK to rate someone 4.0 in a win or 7.0 in a loss, if I think a player deserved it.

I don't think there were any 8/10 performances last night. Hendo's was probably the closest to outstanding.

Better add some ratings here because I strongly disagree with some of those given already (especially Rurik who must have been watching a re-run of, and reporting on, the City performance) !

Ming - 6.5 - gets an extra ½ point for 'that' save, even though straight at him.
Moreno - 9.5 - simply what more could you possibly have asked for ? MoM.
Sakho - 5 (1st half) and 7.5 (2nd half) - first time together and Lovren just doesn't trust anyone yet, tries to cover everything himself but got in the way a couple of times. The 2nd half was a substantial improvement as they no doubt started to get used to each other. Fantastic cover tackle even though finally given as offside. This may well be the CB partnership going forward and I believe it will end up being totally Boss !
Lovren - 7 - see above. Man he covers some ground for a CB. Seemingly everywhere. The fact that Spurs had just ONE shot on target is telling.
Manquillo - 7 - thought he did an excellent job, I don't remember a single cross coming in from that side. He's very pacey and strong, technically gifted and can bomb up and down that wing all day long. 1st teamer all the way.
Gerrard - 6.5 - a very dubious 1st half with a much more accomplished 2nd. Still seems a little off the pace overall but did have some good blocks and tackles, a positive sign.
Henderson - 8.5 - He pulverised their midfield/defence and never gave them a second to rest, a monster, nothing more to be said. His 2nd assist of the season.
Allen - 7.5 - as per last week when many under-valued his performance. His running and pressurising, along with constantly good passing and interplay, meant he and Henderson dominated midfield.
Balotteli - 6.5 - disappointed he didn't put one, of his 3 very good chances, away. However his strength on the ball, holdup play and power in the air, are all very positive traits we have been missing in our attack. Some great touches & vision too. Will get better and sharper.
Sterling - 9 - he terrified and dominated the Spurs defence from start to finish. Almost as impressive was his defensive work - he tracks back and never gives the midfield a minute's peace. He is some player !
Sturridge - 8 - despite not scoring he was instrumental as part of that tri-prong attack, in constantly harassing and running at the Spurs' defence. Some great (tricky) work in the build up to Sterling's goal, to go past 2 Spur's defenders. Excellent all afternoon.

Markovic - 6 - a little quiet when he came on to replace Balotelli. However I think BR had decided to shut-up shop by that time and just wait for breaks so his work was more defensive in nature than offensive.
Can - 7 - continued the domination of their midfield with strength and power as epitomised by his run and pass to Sterling to set him on his way for 'that' miss.

Rodgers - 9 - set the team up with the right personnel and formation, made the right decisions on subs and on this occasion tactically out-thought Pochettino.

That'll do for me...spot on.

I agree with a majority of this, but balotelli doesn't deserve the same rating as Gerrard. Gerrard should be a 5.5 or 6.

I thought it was very pleasing that the front 3 rotated on occasions. Hoping to see more of this as they play more with each other.

I think you're about a year too late to be a founding member.

Ha! Well I don't really care about founding member but I have been saying it for ages. I saw him at Anfield and I was genuinely surprised by his leadership. I've been keeping a close eye on him since then. Amazingly he's only got better and for me he's everything that embodies this BR team. Work, pressing, passing, vision and strong in the tackle. Love the guy.

Yep - on the money.

That avatar is ever-present. It doesn't change. And never will

Ha ha - You silly bugger. What's going to happen? 6CM's is going collapse into a withering mass of ip addresses if @Ryan changes his avatar?! I feel sorry for the guy. He's been rocking that bikini chic for 15 years. I imagine he wants to change it but it's your slave to the nostalgia that prevents him.

Poor Ryan. Set him free and let him express himself. It really isn't the year 2000 anymore....

It's not going to happen. Let it go.

Let it go.

It's the equivalent of going round your mates place and seeing he has a poster of a Lamborghini Countach on his bedroom wall.

Haha, accompanied by one of Pamela Anderson on the beach in her Baywatch swimming costume.

This was the one I had. Could see her nipple, which was a big thing when I was 12. This is a shite picture though.

Great touches, although that angle makes it look pretty soft if I'm honest. Definitely pulled his arm a little but...

Motion denied, counsellor. Had it been an accidental collision the situation might have been different, but Dier deliberately went to impede Allen and in those circs.it doesn't matter how soft the contact may have been. Allen may have exaggerated his fall but I for one have no problem with that provided the attacking player has actually been fouled, and he was in this case.

Allen was right to go down. Soft penalty but a penalty nevertheless.
