Surely they've got to buy a striker in the next few days. They can't go through a season with 50yr old Drogba and Costa that's picked up a knock? I know a few 'can' play up front or in a false no.9 like Fabregas, Hazard, Shurrle etc, but going into the season with just 2 recognised strikers?

They've got a tidy team/squad and all Mourinho teams have a solid defence, but they'd be a nightmare if they bought a top striker.

Been rumoured with Falcao and Remy. But obviously Remy will be out as there's something medically wrong with him. Maybe. The Destro deal was ruled out too. Cavani is now a no go due to Ibra injury. Higuian? Would they go back for rooney again?

Doesnt the Costa "reported" injury now seem like a ploy to hoodwink AC to try harder to get torres? Slimy cunts.

Agreed a deal with QPR appaz. Remy on his way if he passes a medical.

Well if he passes a medical there, then maybe questions need to be asked of our medical team, or the truth comes out if it was something else. Fishy. Not sure why they'd even bother for him if he's allegedly failed a medical.
I think for a top team, like us/them, he'll bang a shedload in.

I don't see why schurrle couldn't play as a cf. He's a fantastic footballer, makes great runs and can finish.

Read some rumour the other day that he had, lets say an illegal substance, in his system that was found during the medical.
Probably BS but sounds plausibel.

Regarding Chelsea and Medicals - I don't think they bother with them that strictly - I mean we sold Torres for £50M and as I recall they agreed the transfer before a full medical - I could be wrong but that is what I read on this site somewhere. So don't be surprised if they sign Remy and don't blame our medical staff.

Let's face it £8.5m for Chelsea is absolute peanuts so if he replaces Torres as cover for Costa for 6 weeks, and whenever he misses a game, then it will be 8.5m well spent for them. I can see a lot of bench / out of the match day squad, time for Remy at CFC.

It just goes to show IMO how ridiculous the pay scales are, to let a 50M signing leave on a free due to earning 170K a week.

incredible stuff.

Clear title favourites for me.

Fabergas was a fantastic signing for them and with him feeding Costa upfront I think they could win it by a margin.

City have more strength in depth and IMHO the better players. Still City for me.

Chelsea's squad (of just 20 players) confirms my comments above, that City's strength in depth will be the deciding factor this season between them.

Looking through Chelsea's U21 List I couldn't find a single player that is going to see game time outside the League Cup, maybe only McEachran & I think Bamford (?) the ones even close to the bench.

You have to wonder what is going to happen if Chelsea end up with the number of injuries that other clubs had last year : -
2013/14 (player days injured) : Arsenal 1,716, Spurs 1,441, Everton 1,367, United 1,146, Liverpool* 997, City 929, Chelsea 556. *naturally excludes Suarez missing the first 6 weeks.
2014/15 (one point = one player absent for a week) : United 31, Liverpool 22, Arsenal 21, Everton 14, Spurs 12, City 6, Chelsea 4).
You've got to wonder how Chelsea have so few injuries.

25 squad players (*=homegrown)
Azpilicueta Tanco, Cesar
Borges Da Silva, Willian
*Cahill, Gary James
Cech, Petr
Courtois, Thibaut
Da Silva Costa, Diego
Dos Santos Emboaba Junior, Oscar
Drogba, Didier
*Fabregas Soler, Francesc
Hazard, Eden
Ivanovic, Branislav
Kasmirski, Filipe Luis
Matic, Nemanja
Mikel, John Obi
Remy, Loic
Salah, Mohamed
Santos Do Nascimento, Ramires
Schurrle, Andre
Schwarzer, Mark
*Terry, John George

Both these guys won't play for them as they're out on loan (Vitesse and Boro, respectively). I think out of their U21 list, Kurt Zouma is the one who will probably play some league games; he's been on the bench for the first 3 league games so far. I'm a bit surprised that they sent Kalas out on loan, but I suppose he's better off getting minutes elsewhere than being stuck behind Terry, Cahill and Ivanovic.

And yes, a few lengthy injuries should make it interesting, especially at the back where they're actually very thin:

Fullbacks: Azpilicueta, Ivanovic, Filipe Luis
CBs: Terry, Cahill, Zouma

I suppose Matic, Mikel and Ramires could be used as emergency defenders if required but still, that looks like a couple of injuries away from being a very uncomfortable situation. But it's Chelsea, so they'll probably fix throw money at the problem if / when they feel like it in January.

Only 3 homegrown.. What are the CL rules re: number of homegrown players you need in the squad/ in the starting line up?

Max of 17 players not listed as locally-trained (ps. you can still list a homegrown player within this 17).

There is no requirement for there to be a min. number of club-trained or association-trained players. If you don't list them, you just forfeit up to 8 slots reserved for them in the squad. Of the 8, there can be at most 4 association-trained players (if there are more, the surplus need to be listed in the 17).

Can't believe they've only got 3 homegrown, mental.
City have got 8, and apart from hart (who's shit) they're all bit part players padding the team - hart, milner, sagna, lampard, boyata, guidetti, sinclair, wright.

Can I just wave my two fingers in the general direction of Mohammed Salah, who decided to join Chelsea instead of us last January? Working out well for him that decision. Three games in and he's yet to even get his arse on the subs bench.

Joining Chelsea has left Mohamed Salah unfit and unable to be our star, bemoans Egypt coach

Fringe player: Mohamed Salah

Egypt coach Shawky Gharib admits he is concerned over the negative effect Chelsea are having on Mohamed Salah's career.
Gharib’s side lost 2-0 to Senegal in an African Cup of Nations qualifier at the weekend and he feels Chelsea should take some of the blame due to Salah’s lack of match sharpness.
Salah is one of the key players for his country, but has barely featured for Chelsea since joining from Basle for £11m in January. The 22-year-old has started just six games since then and has not been used at all this term.
Gharib significantly singled out Salah and his bad physical condition for criticism after Egypt’s costly home defeat. He said: “We had many mistakes in passing the ball and we failed to put the required pressure on our opponents but the defenders are not the only ones to be blamed.
“The poor fitness of the players, especially Chelsea’s Mohamed Salah, is also a reason for the loss. The Egyptian league hasn't started yet and also Salah didn’t play regularly with Chelsea. If Salah is off-form, Egypt's performance is always affected.”

Chelsea have a wealth of attacking midfielders in their squad and Salah is currently behind Eden Hazard, Oscar, Willian, Cesc Fabregas and Andre Schurrle in the pecking order.
Mourinho revealed earlier in the year that this campaign was earmarked from the outset as his ‘breakthrough season’ because he had to adapt to the pace of English football.
Chelsea begin competing in the Champions League and Capital One Cup later this month and Mourinho is expected to start using more fringe players like Salah.
