Sakho

You know it's over if you can't get a game in central defence ahead of Lucas.

I've never rated Sakho, despite numerous claims about his amazing passing stats, and even his potential as a future Liverpool captain, so I'm not bothered. He made the team nervous, and made too many mistakes.

But he could be very effective at his best, and he's still highly rated enough to get a few decent clubs after him, and he's still young ish.

it's was initially a shambles what with the ban but you cant say we've missed him this season ,so far ..

In fact, Lucas puts the fear of god into me but I think he's proven to be half capable when called upon .

The best central defenders are consistent, and that is one of the few things you can't say about him.

He's basically an improved Troare. Bigger, stronger, faster, better passer, but still likely to trip over his own feet at any moment, or completely forget where he is supposed to be standing.

I've never been convinced by Sakho's ability as a CB.
Coupled with reports about him not behaving as a pro, I think he should leave.
I only hope we can regain as much as possible from the £17M we paid for him.

He doesn't actually say he is disgusted in the article, in fact what he is quoted as saying is "I have re-found my form. I still have my smile." & then a French newspaper speculates that he is "disgusted"

Such problems as he has with his recent career seem to have been self inflicted.

Are players still allowed to put in transfer requests?

If so he has that option, until then he's probably best keeping his opinions for the manager and club.

I'm not sure we've done ourselves any favours in his treatment. We've certainly knocked millions off his value even despite whatever he's done behind closed doors. He was still worth £10-12M at that point. We'll struggle to get over £6M with him being completely sidelined.

You could argue Klopp has used to him make a stand. Follow my beliefs or you're out the door, etc. If that's the case, and it's worked, then it's hard to be arsed. If not then it's a little bit frustrating, because we're not exactly minted. What's more frustrating is, across two regimes, we failed to change his levels of proffesionalism. The club would have been aware of his past issues from scouting reports but clearly backed ourselves to change them. The same is true of Ballotelli. The learning from both the Sakho and Ballotelli transfers is we're incapable of changing a players mentality. For future signings we need to act on this. We need to believe a Leopard will not change his spots because it will save it's both in time and money. I just hope that lesson has now been learned.

I've been farly sympathetic to him but I don't think the club has lowered his likely price. He got into that stuation, wrongly I think, that left him banned from the side, de facto. After that, we could hardly play him just to boost his price back up like a deflated tyre. We'll get a good amount for him - teams are desperate in January if they need a player, and we certainly don't need to sell.

@Squiggles - I don't think Klopp has used him at all to make a point. I think it has more to do with dealing with someone who maybe behaves above his station ? - I think Klopp has already proved to us that he can make players better perform through instruction and guidance. He has dealt with Surridge in a good way to get the best out of him in my opinion. I think the issue is - that if a specific character upsets the "TEAM" attitude expected of them then there will be an issue regardless of who is in charge. Given Sakho's age - it is not something Klopp is willing to deal with, as player's with a certain attitude tend to show a disconnect between learning to fix their issues on the field and their brain. That is why someone like Joe Hart was told to leave - because the talent started to suffer as the attitude in the dressing room was overwhelming from his mouth and actions. You cannot help senior players of a certain age when they show this type of behavior except through disciplinary action or to do something that gives them a humbling experience. We have applied the later to Sakho.

Don't see us getting anywhere near 10m for him...

We'll give him away on a free to Lille or some fodder club in ligue 1

& we can't single him out as the main source for our defensive woes last season...how many clean sheets have we managed without him?

Traore had pace...which is why he was passable as a left back quite often.

When you say "passable"....

Djimi gets a free pass from me though. He may have been Bambi on ice, but the man was there in Istanbul and made one absolutely vital goalline block.

I've been trying to find out what else Sakho did that was so horrible but so far there's nothing. I think Klopp is wonderful but unless something happened behind the scenes to compound the original misdemeanour I can't accept he's handled this well at all. If you don't like the guy, just sell him. No need for all this nonsense.
