Looking like Harry Styles

Is Harry Styles lactating in this pic?

I think this is a decent appointment. The English players have repeatedly shown they can't really 'play' like the other top nations, so why try and imitate them. Play to the English strengths of doggedness, organisation, compact direct football, and get a manager to drill that into them. You've more chance of getting to a semi-final of something with this guy than you do with some knobhead trying to turn Wayne Rooney into Pirlo.

This is what I think too ... I bet he will do really well -

But I say it again: he's made his name managing players who, on the whole, were deemed nowhere near good enough for international football - obviously there have been some notable exceptions - so you can't just imagine him acting in the same manner and style when he manages England. It's not a neat transition at all. England players, for example, would probably revolt if they were managed like Iceland, even though Iceland are currently more effective.

He has a long history of getting the best out of limited squads. He's perfect for the job

England have plenty of good players just a suspect mentality.

I think Allardyce will bolster them and get them playing in a style that suits them.

Couldn't give two shits. Come to think of it, I couldn't give one.
I hope this means they fail to even qualify for the next tournament. A summer off from all those utter berks who support them would be great.

Feels like a Brexit type appointment, rejection of European ideas for Sam's pragmatic approach. Tbh, Engalnd have tried the lot and none has really yielded any sort of great success so I guess anything is worth a go but risky especially with the WC qualification.

Then they'd be back in England. At least they go away for a week or two if England qualify

The very fact that Allardyce probably was the best available English candidate should itself have been enough to ensure the appointment of a foreign coach.

He'll do better than Hodgson IMO, but then my old granny would, and she's been dead for half a century.

Anyone thinks that multi-millionaire players are going to listen to some up his own arse no mark of a player / manager can't really be thinking he is going to do a good job, surely??

It's going to be boss watching him pointing and laughing at world class players while chewing gum.

Obviously I mean the opposition here.

People (and London-based hacks DID say) could've said about Hodgson after leading Fulham to a Europa League final: 'He makes the most of mediocre sides'. Worked well at LFC, didn't it? I refer you back to my previous points: it's a big gamble.

Rafa benitez would have been my choice.

He can get half decent halfway talented teams winning cups, & teaches them to prioritise defence perfectly for tournaments.

Of course the fa would never appoint him cos he's not press savvy enough for them.
