See here's to you, Andrew Robertson.

Riise looked really, really good during certain periods, but he seemed to lose focus at times. Does anyone remember his bizarre 'crisp addiction' admission?

I never understood the amount of shit Riise got. He was the target of abuse for ages before that Chelsea goal. He fucked up now and again but I didn't think it was any more than most, but he got singled out by loads of the crowd. Gingerist bastards.

His shots from 40 yds out when we were building attacks rankled on occasion though.

This. He was for the most part a very good player for us.
Watched a documentary about him the other day, and he admitted that he had been sloppy in his pre season preperations in his final season. Gotten to comfortable and didnt work hard enough.

He also told the story about how Rafa called him into his office after the Chelsea game and said it was time for the club and Riise to move on, in different directions.

Replacing Riise with Dossena, Xabi with Aquilani etc. Rafa should really be getting much more stick for some of his horrendous decisions then he has been getting.

Riise was good for the most part and getting rid of him when we did was the right call but since then we have had some proper disasters at left back. This more than anything makes me remember him fondly even though his positional sense was awful. He was helped by having Hyypia next to him.

True. But the emjoi thingies are relevant, aren't they? Don't they just mean he got assaulted by Bellers, Aurelio was injury prone, etc etc? I don't think they meant they were crap. A silly tweet all the same.

I know, I meant the article, exactly what JAR referenced when he said "seen as a weakness", which is nonsense.

Devils advocate, He was the weakness in that defence though

Right back and centre back were incredible at the time. Riise was very very good, but he was the weakest of the 4

That's probably not what the echo meant like

Fair enough, but he was the attacking outlet out of the four, which usually does end up being the weaker defender. Our record with him playing left is largely very good.

At the minute we've got weak individuals and a weak unit.

I was always a fan of Riise. There did seem times in his last season when he wasn't motivated or on his game, but he was a good player for us overall.

Preferred him to Dossena (obvs) and also Aurelio, who couldn't tackle or head a ball. Or run, actually.

He came out himself and said he wasn't as focused or as disciplined as he should have been in his final years.

Everyone looks better when you do a shit job of replacing them over a decade.

Good but limited player. Have lots of fond memories of him. Also remember lots of yelling at the tv for him not to shoot or to take a touch with his bloody right foot once in a while. But overall fond memories and how things turned on him after the Chelsea game were a bit unfair.

I see Klopp is talking about Robertson in his press conference ha.
He said no problem he has heard he is bad at 1v1 but he can teach him.
He said he was good at 1v1's as a player and he was shite so anyone can learn ha

Didnt seem to work on moreno.

For Klopp, the never-say-die attitude displayed by the full-back en route to Anfield shows that there is even more to come.

"For Andrew this is another big step on what has been a quite incredible personal journey in a very short space of time," he told Liverpoolfc.com.

“I love his story; where he has come from professionally to reach this point.

"When you speak to him it is clear why he makes his progress. He has a burning love for playing football - he really loves the game.

"His attitude is outstanding - absolutely outstanding. His talent and skills - also very, very good.

"He has experience of this competition, the Premier League, and he has the mentality and quality to get even better.

"I know our environment will benefit him and help him push himself even more than he has already. This is a player who does not limit his ambition, I think."

Can see the connection between what Klopp said and these:

[article]“If you are full of motivation as a player, if you are full of concentration… I am open arms,” the 48-year-old explained when he arrived at Liverpool last October. “If you are not, of course [I am hard], but only because to work with players who don’t understand the professional part of this life is a waste of time.”[/article]

[article]Passion, hunger and will are fundamental to Jürgen Klopp. He wants “mental giants” in his team, giants motivated by “passionate obsession”. That may sound bold, but there’s a logic to it.

“Anyone can have a good day,” he says. “But you have to be able to perform on a bad day. That’s what you live for as a sportsman. You have to put up a fight.”

Klopp’s idol when he was growing up was Karlheinz Förster, a defender for the German national side and VfB Stuttgart, who may not have been over-endowed with natural talent, but always had the right attitude.

Holding out against an opponent who is objectively better than you by showing greater effort and passion is an “important experience for the mind and the heart”, says Klopp. “Because it’s at times like those that you understand that you’ve got a little bit more in you.”

Klopp has an exceptional ability – a sixth sense for getting that “little bit more” out of his players. It was precisely this skill that helped him transform average Bundesliga players like Kevin Großkreutz and Erik Durm into Bundesliga stars, and even World Cup winners.[/article]

So now if Robertson turns out shit, it is because he didn't listen and refused to learn. If he turns out ok, Klopp is hailed as a great teacher who improves bad players. If you pay attention to him, his mind, his words, this is exactly how he operates. Don't let the stupid smile and charm fool you.

That's right. What he should say is: 'Here's the player. He won't improve. I'm utterly helpless and totally dependent on the player's ability to teach himself'.

This is predicated on the assumption that Klopp is a mere chancer who pulls the wool over people's eyes. That isn't an assumption I share. Your involvement with the law risks pushing your natural cynicism to unjustified extremes.

Didnt seem to work on moreno.

He didn't buy Moreno. He obviously believes AR is coachable and thinks he can make him into a top player. He inherited Moreno, who sadly seems to have the wit of a puppy that has been repeatedly dropped on its head.

I'd prefer to buy more players who were better than average
