Sterling to Man City.. Maybe Arsenal..

It's two separate points though, it's naive to suggest that Sterling is being played in all of this without going along with it to some degree.. He's got enough other people around him who will be advising him what they feel is best for him, enough prominent people have come out over the last year and questioned the motives of his agent. He might be thick, but he'd have to have had his head in the sand to have missed the reaction to his agents antics. Ergo, he's done nothing to try to appease fans and play down any fears about him going.

Sorry, mark, I don't think it's at all naïve. Many players with a lot more about them than Sterling have been led by the nose by their agents before now. He might realise what's going on at some level, but he's too dumb and immature to do anything about it.

I'm still praying that Markovic steps up to the plate and I'll be fucking livid if Rodgers doesn't give him that chance this season

Hopefully this episode will see this twat of an agent crash and burn. He's winding up several clubs now with his antics. Taking Berahino to watch the mancs at Old Trafford, for example, bold as brass, introducing him to all and sundry - Pulis and West Brom only knew when they saw him on the telly. Absolutely shameless. He's also organised several other interviews with his clients without their clubs' knowledge. If he's not careful now he's going to go one step too far.

I wouldn't generalise. Ibe, for example, strikes me as a really decent young lad who wouldn't dream of behaving like Sterling has done. And before people say, 'Wait until he gets a bit more hype,' I'll stress: I really don't think he has that kind of ego about him. The same goes for quite a few others in the reserves. Sterling arrived at the club with an entourage already established around him. Kenny tried to drive them away once they started their little games, but once he started playing for the first team they were always going to be trouble. Brendan saw that pretty quickly, too, but you can't control this stuff in this era. But I still think we're doing well at bringing up most of our youth players with a great attitude.

Thanks for the insight mate. Point taken. I also think sterling comes across as that little but less savvy than others as well. But how does a kid of 15/16 arrive with an entourage? Was it family based? Parasites galore?

Stoke City striker Peter Crouch believes that Raheem Sterling is in danger of 'alienating' Liverpool fans due to the ongoing saga regarding his future.

The 20-year-old has put talks on hold with Liverpool about a new contract, which suggests that he is considering moving on in the summer.

Despite Sterling being in demand, Crouch, who spent three years at Anfield, believes that he should stay at Liverpool because it is the best place to be for his development.

"I've played for Liverpool and there aren't a great amount of players who have gone on to better things after leaving," Crouch told talkSPORT.

"It's a massive club and certainly, with him being 20-years-old, he's at a great club. The other thing is the fans. You don't want to alienate them. When they see this great amount of money being offered you don't want them to turn on you. That could quite easily happen."

Crouch needs to zip it and focus on his own club. Lfc fans are bigger than that. Did he not hear the reception we gave Torres and Suarez?

The same discussions happened when Sterling last signed his contract - there was a lot of speculation around what he would do and whether he would leave. Leaks to the media. In the end he signed. Same will happen again.

A bit of both. I guess his mother, understandably, wanted him looked after as early as possible, and QPR is one of those London clubs where young agents looking to forge a career hover around signing up any kids with a bit of buzz around them. By the time we signed him he had about four or five 'associates' supposedly looking after him.

Interesting.

You would think clubs would get wary of signing his players with antics like that.

I was concerned about this for a little while. But then, two and a half years left? Let him be that twat he is being. No rush lad, not from our end anyway. From what I've seen of him, Ibe will be a better player in time.

Yep I heard about this as well. He was scouted by most of the big clubs such was the buzz about him at 14-15. I don't know why he chose Liverpool particularly but I seem to recall it was a major coup for the club at the time. I suspect the 20% sell on fee to QPR might have had a part to play. He's been at LFC over 5 years now and his potential (given his age) I guess has been realised. He's made his senior England debut and won that stupid European award all while being developed and trained at LFC. If he leaves this summer I personally won't care too much. We'll get a wedge and lose one of the most ungrateful cunts to (grudgingly it seems) wear the red shirt.

Cash in if they are ready to part with 50 mill. Fair to question the fabric of this boy Imo.

Imho he already has, ffs it was on the bbc news you don't get more high profile than that! Incredibly disrespectful to the club, I can't work out if he is just a complete fuckwit, W C Fields style, or just very very ruthless and shrewd, hopefully he will meet his match with these yanks.

Raheem Sterling and agent 'a disgrace' for taking on Liverpool says Jamie Carragher
Anfield legend slams 'PR disaster' for his former Liverpool team-mate

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has branded Raheem Sterling and his agent 'a disgrace' for taking on the club over the player's contract situation in the public arena.
The 20-year-old Reds player has rejected a new £100,000 contract with the club and then proceeded to give a BBC interview over the issue which was not sanctioned by the club.
Speaking in his Daily Mail column, one-club man Carragher who played 737 times for Liverpool has taken the youngster to task.
He said: "For a 20-year-old and his agent to be taking on Liverpool FC in the public domain is a disgrace. I have no issue about players maximising their earning potential but the agenda that is being driven from Sterling’s camp is beyond a joke.
"The only way any good could have come from the BBC interview was if Sterling had said he was going to sign a new deal. Anything else, as he has discovered, was always going to create a massive problem. They cancelled talks with the club but not with the media. If you don’t want people talking about an issue, don’t talk about it yourself.
When is the right time?

Sterling insists the impasse is not about money and declares that he would have signed a contract straight away if offered one last year.

Carragher said: "So it’s Liverpool’s fault, then, for their timing ‘being off’? I’m sorry but that’s just nonsense. At this stage of last season, Sterling and Liverpool were on fire, with Brendan Rodgers calling him the ‘best young player in Europe’. No doubt that line has been used in negotiations.
"Crucially, his contract still had more than three years to run. Very rarely do clubs rip up a player’s terms with that length of time on their deal - never mind one as young as Sterling - to give them a big pay rise. You don’t normally get rewarded after a few good months with that long left.
"As for talking about the Champions League and winning trophies, the implication is that Liverpool are struggling to do that but, already, he has challenged for the title last season and the FA Cup this season. That’s your job as a Liverpool player: to deliver big targets and meet expectations. If you can’t do that, why should you get extra money?
"After we won the Champions League in 2005, I signed a new contract but it was still incentivised. So why can’t Sterling sign a contract with incentives in? If he wins trophies and is successful, he will get the money he wants."

You play where the team needs you

Carragher, who played in various positions across both defence and midfield at different times in his career was also unsympathetic to Sterling's grumbling about having to operate as a wing-back in the Reds 3-4-2-1 formation.
He said: "When you are a young player that is what happens. You get put into different roles as it helps your understanding and experience. I spent half my career out of position; how many different roles has Steven Gerrard played?
"What’s more, Sterling has actually excelled in one of the positions many felt he wasn’t suited to - as a centre forward. Rodgers has been trying to educate and improve him. It would be disappointing if he couldn’t see that.
"Raheem has got great potential but he is not the first one to do this. Remember Shaun Wright-Phillips 10 years ago? He left Manchester City for Chelsea after bursting into the England team. He hardly figured at Stamford Bridge and returned to City two years later. Now he can’t get a game for QPR.

"Rodgers once said to me, when talking about his time at Chelsea, that young players were ‘being paid to fail’, meaning massive salaries diluted their hunger. Liverpool don’t want Sterling to lose his enthusiasm and that’s why his pay should be incentivised.
"There is, however, a school of thought among some Liverpudlians that says: ‘Give him what he wants, or someone else will.’ They worry it shows a lack of ambition.
"My problem with that is how does Philippe Coutinho, who has been as good as Sterling, feel being on less than half his money?
"The other thing is that, if he stays, Liverpool will be in this position again in two years. If he asks for £250,000 per week then, what happens?
"Liverpool and Rodgers are what Sterling needs at this stage of his career. He should realise this. And there is one change I would recommend he makes this summer - and it is not his football club."
Carragher has also warned the England international over the perils of thinking the grass is greener away from Anfield having declared that he was flattered by links to Arsenal.
He said: "First, he was desperately naive to say such a thing on the eve of such a crucial game. He is also naive, as are his advisers, if he thinks Arsenal would guarantee him a regular place every week.
"What Sterling’s camp are struggling to see is that Liverpool is the best place for him. Forget money for a minute. This is about football and his development. He will start the vast majority of games at Anfield. Would that be the case at Arsenal? No.
"He wouldn’t play as a centre forward there ahead of Olivier Giroud or Alexis Sanchez. Being a No 10 would be out of the question, as he is not like Mesut Ozil or Santi Cazorla, which would mean a battle with Danny Welbeck and Theo Walcott to start wide right.
"If he went to Manchester City, he would be a squad player again. City play 4-4-2 under Manuel Pellegrini, which would mean him competing with Jesus Navas and Samir Nasri to start on the right.
"As for talk about Bayern Munich (Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery) and Real Madrid (Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale), he wouldn’t get near either of those teams now."

Apologies if this has been posted before. I couldn't see it and the article appeared only 2 hours ago.

Glad to see Carra using the SWP comparison I alluded to. Maybe I know a thing or two after all....

Not at all, mate, he's just trolling with his 'we have nothing to complain about' routine.
Ah ok. Back to the point - It's rather pointed and harsh terminology from Carra don't you think? His agent is 'a disgrace' etc. I think emotions are running high at the moment with Sterling. The stupid tit has brought all this on himself though. Urrrghhhh! Annoyed @gkmacca!!!! One thing I do have faith in though is BR and John Henry to sort this out for the good of the club. Out of interest would you start Sterling tomorrow or drop him?

John cross being an arsenal fan, this article seems a bit wummy, especially the week before we play them
It's not like Sterlings recent form is a threat. Cross must be worried about us.

I hate the way these hacks are treated like celebs or special guests. Cross is always on ?Talksport doing the WUM thing. They could get me on if they want a myopic, biased opinion on a game! I'll happily take cash.

The Sunday Supplement is the perfect example of this...talk about ego trips, but I suppose they're given the platform to demonstrate them.

Carra was brutally honest with his opinions. Said pretty much everything I've been wanting to say.

We need more Carraghers in the game. Honest, loyal and hardworking professionals.

But what he said about agents/players holding clubs ransom because of a compliment from a manager caught my attention. So each time a manager praises a player for his performances, their agents get to ask for a pay rise ? Sickening.

Rodgers is currently doing his presser before the Arse game.

@JamesPearceEcho: Rodgers: "Raheem is not going anywhere this summer." #LFC

@TonyBarretTimes: Rodgers: "Liverpool is one of the superpowers of world football. If it doesn't want to sell it won't sell."

@JamesPearceEcho: Rodgers on Sterling interview: "There was no permission from the club. It surprised us all. But he's a young player who is still learning."

@JamesPearceEcho: Rodgers: "For Raheem, it's purely about the football. What the kid is trying to do is put off talk about him being all about money."
Shorter Rodgers: "Steady."

I guess we can't afford to drop him, given that several players are suspended or injured. Deserves to be, though.

Rodgers has confirmed that he'll start. Can see Sterling being very good today.

I can see him being shit today.

I'll imagine he'll be playing as striker. Just to piss him off I'd bring balo on relatively handy for him

At this moment in his career he is not a 50M pound player and if we were offered that kind of money it may well be tempting to sell.

He needs to step up on the pitch a fair amount more before acting Charlie big spuds in negotiations.

I wouldn't cry too much if we sold him for a big fee.
