People talking about Lacazette like he's some hidden gem in the fucking Uzbek league. He's on the radar of every top club and if we will struggle to bring in top talent, as people claim, we'll struggle to bring him in.

Jerome Sinclair and Jordon Ibe deserve a go up top at separate points until the end of the season.

Immobile only made the move to Germany last summer following an outstanding season in Serie A with Torino, but he has fallen out of favour with Jurgen Klopp.

The Italian forward has mustered just three Bundesliga goals in 17 appearances and has found himself on the fringe of the first team squad in recent weeks with Dortmund languishing in the bottom half after a disappointing season.

Speculation also intensified about the Italian's future after recent reports suggested the 25-year-old had put his German home up for sale.

While Liverpool are known admirers, Milan appear to be the front-runners for Immobile's signature and are reportedly willing to pay £13m for him in the summer.

How Liverpool FC's forgotten man Samed Yesil needs an end to his bad luck: Profile
The 20-year-old is on the verge of a comeback after two long injury lay-offs

He could become the answer to a niche pub quiz question for years to come.

In Brendan Rodgers’ first summer at the club, he signed four players. Joe Allen and Fabio Borini are the names which will be recalled immediately, while Oussama Assaidi lurks in the back of the mind, no doubt running down a blind alley before firing a cross out of touch.

The fourth, and not-so-famous, is Samed Yesil.

But the striker came to Liverpool having arguably achieved more than the other three. Allen and Borini had helped Swansea to promotion, Assaidi had become a one-in-four man at Eredivisie side Heerenveen – but Yesil was one of the stars of the Under-17s World Cup in 2011, scoring six goals and creating a further five.

His record at youth level with Germany was good, almost scoring at a goal-a-game ratio. There were high hopes for the low-key signing from Leverkusen, costing just £1million.

It didn’t take long for him to make his first-team bow, albeit in the Capital One Cup, against West Bromwich Albion in September 2012.

But in a situation that would prove foreshadowing, his debut was overshadowed by Jerome Sinclair.

Sinclair, at 16 years and six days, became the youngest Liverpool player of all time, replacing Yesil. Yesil, a relative veteran at 18 years and 124 days, was forgotten about – so, too, his enthusiastic, industrious work leading the line.

He would make one more first-team appearance, starting in the next round against Swansea, but was substituted at half time for Luis Suarez. The Reds would go out, losing 3-1.

Things would get worse. His past two years can be summarised thus: injury, comeback, another injured. Two cruciate ligament ruptures in a year – his first on international duty with Germany Under-21s, his second training with Liverpool – have ensured Yesil has become the forgotten man of the youth set-up.

Now is his chance to give reminders, with U-21s boss Michael Beale pencilling his return for Fulham in April. In his absence, Jerome Sinclair has scored aplenty; Sinclair, now on loan at Wigan, has become the golden boy up front for the U-21s.

It’s encouraging how Beale called Yesil “second-to-none” with his finishing. If Sinclair, with 22 goals for the Academy sides this season, is regarded as a good finisher, then Yesil could have fans salivating over what’s to come next season.

Is it realistic to expect Yesil to finish this season in the Under-21s, and then be ready for potential first-team action in 2015-16? Not necessarily.

Even with Fabio Borini and Mario Balotelli likely to leave this summer, Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi – two full internationals to have played at the World Cup – will be above him in the pecking order. Raheem Sterling can also play there, while the transfer window is three months long – three months too long for Yesil.

Even if pointing to his goals at youth level, that is no guarantee of making the step up to the senior side. The top scorer from that Under-17s World Cup in Mexico, with two goals more than Yesil, was Souleymane Coulibaly. He signed for Spurs – who else? - on the back of that, and now plays in the 60-team third-tier of Italian football.

He does, however, have a chance if he can replicate the tenacity of coming back from two serious injuries on to the football field. He is still just 20, after all, and was identified by the club early in Rodgers’ reign as a player who could succeed.

A lot has changed at the club since then, and that could work against him, but what remains is the desire to progress young players. The hope is his two injuries, serious ones, have not made a tough job even tougher.

He does have a former team-mate already in the side, at least. In that Germany team which finished third at the Under-17s World Cup, he was supplied in midfield by Emre Can. He also faced off against Raheem Sterling, playing for England, during that tournament.

Neither Can nor Sterling have had a setback as fierce as the two Yesil has had. It’s unlikely he’ll make it to their level – but it’s an important few months for his Liverpool career nevertheless.

Memo to Brendan Rodgers and the transfer committee:

No. More. Italians.

We need a striker who can play centrally, sometimes as a lone striker, hold it up, challenge for a header. Someone who compliments Sturridge and brings the likes of Sterling and Henderson closer to goal.

Part of the problem recently is that we've relinquished possession too quickly in the opposition half. Sturridge has played mostly for himself ( Sterling, too, at times ) and the midfield and attack have not worked together. Moreno hasn't been good enough on the left and we've missed Ibe's ability on the ball. We have a strong core but lack similar quality in wide areas.

Some are claiming that we don't create enough in this formation but it just needs improving upon, not ditching altogether. Also, we've used the wrong players in this 2-1 attack.

He's not moving.

Philipp Hoffmann on show at the mo for Germany under21s against England (it's on BT Sport) - fantastic technique to take the ball, spin and open the scoring. Looks a very promising centre forward.

I would play Ibe front for the reminder of the season. I remember his youth days and he is a better replacement of Studge than Sterling leading the line for us.

So long as we have three rather than two interchanging positions up front I'm not so bothered about who plays where at the start. Ibe and Sterling and Sturridge constantly moving around the pitch and swapping areas to attack is when we're really dangerous. Recently it's mainly been Sterling sticking to either the left or right in a predictable fashion with Sturridge quite static, which as we've seen is pretty easy for defences to snuff out.
