Does Sturridge have what it takes to play as the one in a 4231 - Klopps preferred way of playing? He's surely going to have to adapt his gamehis game. There were a few reports that Klopp was interested in Benteke when Lewandowski left Dortmund and surely would have been a better bet than Immobile so he could be his striker of choice.

Personally I hope be finds a setup who incorporates both, but I'd be disappointed if Sturridge is moved away from a central striking position because he's our most talented player in the squad.

If he is good enough and willing to do the work demanded from Klopp he will be just fine. As you say he is talented, so I guess it is down to him to show that talent.

Looking at Barrios and Lewandowski, it looks like Klopp favours a clinical finisher in that top position, and there's few better finishers in the business than Sturridge.

It would not surprise me in the slightest to see Benteke up top and Sturridge played off him for pace on the break and feeding off Benteke knock-downs.

I think Klopp could look back to 2013/14 and play a diamond variant with Sturridge and Bentenke/Ings upfront. Our football that season really resembled Dortmund at its best.

Another view, correct me as I'm no doubt wrong, but couldn't Sturridge be compared to Reus in the Klopp system? I've never seen Reus as someone who works hard to get back, but he's lightning quick and played more like a left forward than a left winger under Klopp, Sturridge could surely do that well? Sturridges inability to press could be the biggest problem here, but as many have already suggested, with Benteke upfront, this could be his best use.

Anyway, what great problems to have.

Interesting post and yes, in theory the Studge *could* play that kind of role. The problem is he doesn't want to. That's where the Chavs were playing him, and it was one of the reasons why he left.

Klopp would definitely have to sell it to him, but I think it's less of a winger that we're used to, he'd be playing quite narrow and direct, if he was open to it, he could thrive there.

They were playing him wide in a 4-2-3-1 type formation or mostly not playing him while Torres stunk the place out of it. The problem with Sturridge is that if he plays the high intensity pressing game I'd fear his hamstring would snap after about 3 games.

I think Klopp's philosophy is simple: if you play with one striker up top, always make sure he is the best finisher you've got. Which in our case means Sturridge 1st choice, then Benteke, Ings, Origi in this order. Sturridge is also better than others at bringing teammates into play, something Lewandowski excelled at.

Sturridge fucking hates playing on the wing or as a left forward...
