We have at the moment

Firmino - works hard, but slow and probably will not score more than 14 goals
Sturridge - Is injured and takes an age to get back to fitness
Origi - Scores goals but looks lost at times and makes poor decisions
Ings - Has been out for two seasons more or less but after Sturridge the most clinical
Solanke - Bags of potential but still really young

Who get's the most games Upfront and who should get the least

Probably something like the order you listed them.

Is firmino that slow? Is sturridge injured ? He played 45/60mins in each pre season match hasn't he ?(Perma-injured jokes aside)

Is Sturridge actually injured? (I know most of the time the answer is yes like, but was unaware he injured currently).

Firmino isn't a striker anymore than I am. It's difficult to argue he is classed as a forward TBH.

Klopp seems to think other wise.. the Number 9 shirt also suggests that..

His Goal, Assist return and his workrate is the closest player we have to Suarez in the team..

Firminio if fit will always be the first name on the teamsheet for Klopp.. Our setup dictates we don't need an out an out striker...

Sturridge isn't injured now, he means tomorrow

No. 9 is Salah now by the way.

Firmino is as close to Suarez as you are to Will Self

Klopp giving Firmino the number 9 shirt suggests either Klopp's had some kind of a brain aneurysm in his sleep; he's actually an utter genius & somehow this fella that "works hard" (but who half the time can't hit a cow's arse with a banjo) will turn out to be a proper striker, or he's got a very sick & twisted sense of humour.

Sturridge will never be first choice in Klopp team.. People need to start accepting this...

I can see Solanke getting in ahead of Studge.. His build and physicality kinda suggests he is more a Klopp type player..

I guess this is why Studge has been working hard in the gym over the summer...

It doesn't matter who scores the goals Foxy!

Ian St John,
Robbie Fowler,
Torres,
Heighway,
Rush.

And Firmino. No, not having it.

Now, of course, we have Lambert, Benteke, Aspas shudder as well, but is it too much to hope for a proper, goalscoring striker at number 9 for LFC? Really?!

Bullshit. Sturridge will be given a shot. Firmino is of course first choice, it's just up to Sturridge to prove himself. No way Solanke is getting ahead of him.

I Still have a small hope that we add a quality number 9. We create so many chances, a top quality player would score plenty.

It's a preferred way of playing but to get stuck in that mindset is inhibiting and myopic, it's also shown it can occasionally be toothless. Statistically we create alot of chances, but our conversion rate to that is pretty low, so there's some truth in the idea that if you add someone prolific who fits the ethos of the team, then that will push us on even further. It's a bit of a myth that these sort of players are long gone or that you can't accommodate them without sacrificing something. United and Chelsea both consciously went out this Summer with the intent of buying a prolific marksman. Maybe Mane+Salah+Sturridge can be as good as that, with Firmino.

I agree though that Firmino more or less fits, in some shape or form, the Suarez role. He's tenacious and doesn't stop and he makes chances for others. He's somewhere between a Suarez and your workhorse type who does all of the off the ball stuff that benefits teammates, like Dirk Kuyt - those players are invaluable and crucial to alot of games - especially the head to heads against the top teams.

If Salah and Solanke can bridge the goal gap (along with the returning Sturridge), then squad wise we're set. I guess though, and I think this is pretty much the point of the thread, everything is up in the air. It can either fall together brilliantly - the new lads could be great and score loads of goals and Sturridge could stay fit. Or we could be one or two injuries away from relative disaster in terms of goal threat. We saw how poor we were when we lost Mane, so fingers crossed that Salah and Solanke bridge that gap in terms of depth. Ideally you want to keep Salah and Mane wide of Sturridge or Firmino, that's a shit hot front 3/4 on paper, with alot of depth behind that - Coutinho can play wide left, Solanke, Origi, Ings. Good stuff, assuming they all stay and maintain their fitness.

When is Ings due to return? I'm worried he will never actually play for us but still continue to collect £40-50k a week

The problem for Sturridge is he just doesn't work in a 433. No manager in his career has trusted him to play through the middle without another striker and Klopp hasn't been impressed enough to change his favoured way of playing to accommodate.

The problem with that is Firminos lack of goals places pressure on the rest of the team to score and therefore we struggle when there's 2/3 get injured as per January last season.

They should all sit behind a new clinical center forward in the pecking order.

Firmino will be 1st choice to begin the season
