Our poor form without him has no doubt helped his agent!

Liverpool Football Club are delighted to announce Daniel Sturridge has signed a new long-term contract.
The 25-year-old has committed his future to the Reds by penning the deal at Melwood today.

Sturridge joined the Reds from Chelsea in January 2013 and has scored an incredible 36 goals in just 52 appearances for the club, while also firmly establishing himself as an England international.

Shortly after putting pen to paper on the deal, the striker told Liverpoolfc.com: "It feels great. It's a big, big day in my life to commit to this club and to give the club my best years, which are ahead of me.

"I am thankful for the opportunity and that is the reason I committed my future. Everyone has been great with me, from the fans to the staff to the players, so it was an easy decision. I'm happy with how everything is going."

Sturridge's 21 goals in the Barclays Premier League last season made him the division's leading English goalscorer.

The No.15 has missed Liverpool's last six matches due to an injury, but is closing in on a return to action - and he is clear in what he's hoping to achieve over the course of his new deal.

Sturridge said: "There are a lot of things I'm happy with how they've gone so far, but there is a lot to come. I've not shown yet what I can do - what I'm doing is just the start for me.

"I may have had some good games and scored some goals, but literally this is the beginning in terms of what I can show. I don't feel I've shown really what I can do as a footballer. I am looking forward to the hard work, the training, the games and everything - and looking forward to the future."

He added: "We were so close to success last season and it was a bitter pill to take not winning the league, but that's just a taster of what the fans will get - but hopefully this time we'll have the trophies to show for it.

"Everyone is very obsessive in terms of wanting success and being winners. That's what we are - that's the Liverpool Way."

Blank paper?

How long is "long term"?

For me, at this precise minute, the time from now to when I get to eat (which is probably around 60 minutes) feels long term. But I hope its a longer long term than that long term

#LFC striker Daniel Sturridge signs new five-year contract to keep him at Anfield until 2019

I wonder if the timing of this is entirely coincidental, against the background of all that crapola from Hodgson.

Reported to be 150K a week? I would say no other player in our team should expect to be paid more.

Best player on a team that plans to be in the top 4. I think it's close to fair. Sterling will be over 100K soon.

This thread should be getting a bit more love no? I fully expected him to sign again but it's nice to have it wrapped up and done without any drama or bullsh!t stories emerging in the press.

Any update of the contract? Pay rise?

Far more thrilling to talk about which one of our players makes the most mistakes or why Hendo never makes incisive forward passes.

feel like his injuries will always keep him just below the level of world class, its a shame cause you can tell how gutted he is everytime he's injured, cant wait to have him back

We're completely fucked.
Lambert, Borini, Sterling. I hope one of them plays up front together with Balloteli, cause I really don't think it's going to work with Balloteli on his own, whether he improves or not. Someone up there has to be making constant movements for our midfielders to flourish.
Or get Gerrard behind the striker.

Made of fucking glass

He looked as though he'd overcome that though. We know how to handle his conditioning and it was working fine. This is probably down to him overcompensating in an effort to get back from the injury that Hodgson and England brought about by ignoring our (and the Studge's own) requests.
