Sturridge and his mental frailty

I was screamed at for suggesting we sell him as soon as we can.

I still stand by it. He'll never be fit for long. If he comes back in and starts scoring we should sell him in Jan.

Waste of money.

I presume he meant he's a waste of money right now, as in paying his wages. Not that the initial outlay of 12 million was a waste of money.

Only Dreamy has the answer.

Ha, yes a waste of money right now in terms of his salary and its value in the market which is dropping quickly.

I doubt we'll ever get a 30 game a season player again.

I doubt that he care about playing or not. He got his fat big long contract. Many players are like that. Work their socks off until they get the contract they want and then just don't give a shit.

Perhaps, but I don't believe that applies to the Studge. He was gutted when he first got that injury after England messed him up, and I reckon he'd far rather be repaying the club for giving him a chance in the first place.

I'm sure he cares and would rather play than sit out a fat contract. Sturridge strikes me as a person who enjoys being #1.

We play about 60 games a season.

Exactly I don't think we'd even get 50% of games out of him which is a huge loss considering what he's worth.

If he comes back in and scores a few I'd be looking to offload for as high a fee as we can get and replace him with someone who can play 50 games a season.

You need to decide what you actually think he's worth. If he's worth a lot, we won't get anywhere near that if we sell. If he isn't, 50% of games would be fine for someone who isn't worth all that much. Either way selling him would be pointless.

You do realise Andy Carroll was worth f*ck all and look what we got for him.

Was Sterling worth 50M? I don't think he was worth half that.

I think if we made Sturridge available we would get a very good fee for him.

I very much doubt that. There's clearly no problem with his quality so we'd be making him available purely because of injury concerns, other clubs would see that and it would affect the price big-time.

Errrrrrrr, but it'd have to be a FUCKING good fee wouldn't it Dreamy....seeing as he signed a 5yr, 150k deal last year. So that's about £7m in wages per year, for another 4 years; so roughly £28m we owe him. Now even with some fancy contract clauses involved and him being prepared to take a pay off rather than demand his full contract value for us selling him against his wishes, we'd still have to get well over 15m before we started making money and be relying on him to be super-humanly non-self centred. Likely?

Lets play it another way round; say Daniel (being the good Christian he is) decides we havent fucked him over by touting him around to other clubs whilst he's in rehab, and doesnt demand anything to settle his contract. Instead (and far more reasonably) he just asks that he doesnt lose money from his current contract to the one he signs with his new club. Newcastle, being flash Geordie bastards, and loving a former Liverpool crock, agree to sign him on a 4yr deal at 100k a week (fucking mental by the way given his injury record, but bear with me). That means we pay Sturridge roughly 10m over 4 years to not play for us....

So your "very good fee" better be £30m+ (ridiculous, but on the basis that any kind of replacement is 20m, and we owe him 10m) for your plan to be anything other than retarded.

Anybody want to take dreamy up on the offer of selling Sturridge relatively cheaply now?
I suspect we may have left it too late

I wanted to post a thread on this the other day. Klopp seems to be suggesting that Sturridge his declaring himself unfit on matchdays, it won't last.
