One has to wonder if this is related to Iqbal's departure. Carrying the can for not having found whatever the issue is/was.

Brendan Rodgers is confident Liverpool FC have finally brought Daniel Sturridge’s injury nightmare to an end. The Reds striker will be reunited with his team-mates at Melwood on Friday after nearly a month in America where he stepped up his rehabilitation from a torn thigh muscle. Sturridge spent time in both Los Angeles and Boston – getting advice and treatment from some of the world’s leading sports injury specialists.

Back in November, Liverpool launched a full medical investigation into Sturridge’s history of injuries after he broke down again in training. The 25-year-old hasn’t played for the Reds since August due to thigh and calf issues. But Rodgers believes he is now close to full fitness and is relishing the prospect of having him back in action later this month.

“We had an extensive look at it for Daniel’s benefit,” Rodgers told the ECHO. “What he had done in his career up until now – when you look at the injuries he’s had – just hasn’t worked. That’s the reality of it. “If you have nine injuries on one thigh alone and a number of other issues then there is a procedure you need to look at.

“It’s been about doing everything you possibly can to get as much as you can out of the player. “That has involved bringing in other reviews, going to see specialists in the field and going to other parts of the world. “We have taken every measure we possibly can to see if we can get him to be consistently fit. We’ve tried to look after the medium and long term here.

“He has gone out to America and done a lot of great work and they have got him three quarters of the way there. We’ve had video links and been monitoring the situation. “Now he will come back into here, finish that off and hopefully it will be like having a new player for the rest of the season.”

Rodgers is reluctant to put a date on Sturridge’s comeback but hopes he will soon be able to start full training again.

The return of last season’s 24-goal hitman will be timely as the Reds face his former club Chelsea later this month in a two-legged Capital One Cup semi-final. Those games come either side of the FA Cup fourth round tie with Bolton Wanderers.

“Daniel will be back with us at Melwood on Friday,” Rodgers said. “He’s not ready to start full training straightaway but he’s not far off. “Now it’s just a case of finalising this last period of his rehab. “There is no comeback game in mind at this stage. We will just see how he adapts when he’s back here.

“Daniel is a key player for us. You put him into any team and it makes them better. “His pace is frightening, his touch, his movement, and he’s also improved the defensive part of his game in order to press the ball. “If he can just sustain that fitness, he’s shown what he can do. We’re hoping that he can stay fit and lead the charge for us over the next few years.”

Not ready to start full training yet. He'll probably take another month to get match fit.

Read last night that he could be back for the Villa game.
Trained yesterday on his own at Melwood.

A fit Sturridge is exactly what we've been missing this season. Having him for the rest of the season, alongside a fresh Sterling, a fit Lallana, a new striker (hopefully) will be a real boost for us.

If Sturridge is fit and stays fit I don't see another striker being that much of a pressing issue, not until the summer anyway. Give Balotelli the Europa league and leave some of the youngsters have their chance in places. Yesil possibly.

I think we need a new striker anyway.
None of the 3 fit strikers we currently have is good enough to even cover for Sturridge. So even if we're guaranteed that Sturridge is fit from now on, we still need a good new striker (maybe even two if we are to put in a real challenge for a top 3-4 place)

If we're happy to finish Top 6 then that would be OK. Personally I want Top 4 and to win the EL too. We need another good striker and to lose Borini. Balo & Lambo to go in the Summer I'd assume.

But you said with Sturridge fit. If Sturridge is fit then any of Raheem, Lallana, Countess, Coutinho, Hendo, Gerrard can play behind him. We don't need a second starting striker. I reckon we can make do until the summer. Still though it would be risking a lot on Studge staying fit.

That's it exactly though. Not only does he have to stay fit but if we make it through to the EL final then he'd have played a barrow-load of games. We need another, I'd even take Berahino but would prefer Lacazette, Firmino or Higuain etc. regardless of whether they are out and out strikers they can play there and strengthen our all round game.

If you take any stock of the points per game status as it relates to players we won 2.27 points per game that Sturridge has played in without Suarez.

And that's more than when he played with Suarez or Suarez played without him.

I don't think that we were a better team with Sturridge and without Suarez than we were with both or with Suarez and no Sturridge.
I believe the stat you're quoting is not telling the full story as it probably only relies on a relatively small number of games.

Or else your bias blinds you from reality?

No you have just shoved your huge head into your gigantic ass....as that can be the only explanation for you trying to make a case out of a stat from less than 10 league games.

How many games were those stats over?

And are you sure it wasn't this stat, that you misread: "When either Suarez and/or Sturridge didn’t play, Liverpool average 2.27 ppg (points per game)"

Yeah but I also said giving someone else the Europa League. Leave Balotelli, Borini, Yesil etc Start those games. If we hit the semi final or final bring in the heavy artillery and start Studge. Yes we could maybe buy one but if Studge is fully fit and stays fit til the end of the season then he is (for me) as good as if not better than a new signing. :D

But you are now willing to gamble on Studge's fitness ..... just as Rodgers and Co. did and are rightly getting slammed for !

The official statement on that was that he left the club for "personal family reasons", and reading the release, I think the wording of it seems to betray nothing more sinister behind his departure.

Liverpool FC today confirmed that Dr Zaf Iqbal has left the club for personal family reasons. We wish him and his family well for the future.

Commenting on today's announcement, Dr Zaf said: "I have enjoyed my time here and shared some great experiences with Liverpool FC and worked with some amazing staff and players, many who are true legends of the game. I am sad to be leaving behind an excellent medical and sports science team, but I have to do what is right for me and my family.

"I wish the best for all those connected with this fantastic club and especially Brendan, coaching staff, medical staff and players and hope they can build on the successes of last season."

edit: Sorry, I just realized I was replying to something more than 2 weeks old! Oh well, just gonna leave this alone here in case someone else was wondering. ;)

A fully fit Sturridge coming into this side and hitting some form would be fantastic.
He'll need some time to get going and hopefully an early goal will help him on.

Think he'll be on the bench vs West Ham

I do worry about Sturridge though, not just his injuries. Earlier in the season he was sorely missing the leg work that Suarez did for him, he doesn't do half the closing down that other players do for us upfront, so he'll not only need to get fit, he still needs to adapt.
