Tony Barrett - Liverpool have made an inquiry about taking Mario Balotelli on loan from AC Milan

@TonyBarretTimes: Now it appears a permanent deal could be on the table. Talks are ongoing but still at an early stage.

Hardly setting the world alight is it?

He is purely brilliant when he wants to be. Astoundingly talented. But he doesn't seem to want to be as often as he should, and that's my issue. I'm all for putting up with footballers that are high maintenance (case in point - the massive cockend we just sold to Barca), but they've got to be bringing it on the pitch to compensate for their baggage.

On a scale of Diouf to Suarez, Balo here is closer to Suarez so might be worth the 17M-odd. You go away to Valencia or wherever in the Champions League and you'd be in a lot better spot with someone like Balotelli in your side - been there, done that, worn the 'why me' t-shirt.

But you don't marry a Balotelli. He'll be gone within 3 years to his next Italian jaunt, we know that. So maybe we let him fuck us with some crazy mad whips, we'll look good with him on our arm when we go out on a Wednesday night, and every so often he'll tell us he loves us after he's fucked our mum's. And we'll accept it, co we're stupid football fans.

Take the ride, live it for a few years, but always know what this is - an August 21st (i.e. midnight) signing after all other avenues (Sanchez, Cavani, Bony, Remy, Falcao, etc) have been exhausted. Balotelli is the one bird left at the bar who your mates have fucked and told you to stay away from. We'll still take her home though.

Liverpool have opened talks with AC Milan about a proposed move for Mario Balotelli,
raising the possibility of one of English football’s most controversial characters making a
return to the Barclays Premier League.
With time running out in the summer transfer window and their search for a new forward
becoming increasingly urgent, Liverpool initially made an approach through a third party to
sign Balotelli on a season-long loan, but the Merseyside club are now looking to take the Italy
forward to Anfield on a permanent basis.
It is understood that the terms laid out in Liverpool’s initial approach to Milan included a
series of clauses that would have enabled them to send the 24-year-old back to his parent club
if his attitude became a problem.
Milan gave that idea short shrift, sources in Italy indicating that the club informed Liverpool
that they should return with a formal bid if they wish to sign Balotelli.
Milan would be willing to allow the forward to leave this summer, but only on their terms.
“At this time we have not received any offer from Liverpool for Balotelli, hence there is no
negotiation,” Adriano Galliani, the Milan vice-president, told Gazzetta dello Sport. “But we
will see as the transfer market ends on September 1.” Ian Ayre, the Liverpool managing
director, has been in with Mino Raiola, Balotelli’s representative, in recent weeks over the
proposed sale of Oussama Assaidi, another of Raiola’s clients, and the pair are understood to
have met in Amsterdam in recent days.
That Liverpool have shown any interest in Balotelli, who is seeking a salary of £160,000 per
week, is remarkable given that Brendan Rodgers “categorically” ruled out any chance of the
Italy striker moving to Anfield during the club’s recent tour of the United States. Despite
Balotelli’s reputation for off-field controversy while at Manchester City, Rodgers is believed
to have been more concerned with his behaviour on the training ground, having established an
ethos of elite performance at Liverpool.
Rodgers has admitted that it is “crucial” to add a top-class striker to his squad after the
departure of Luis Suárez, and Liverpool are considering all possibilities with increasing
urgency.
In recent weeks, inquiries have been made for Radamel Falcao, Edinson Cavani and Karim
Benzema without success after the collapse of an £8 million deal to sign Loïc Rémy from
Queens Park Rangers.
Falcao remains their preferred option, but Liverpool have been made aware that the Monaco
forward favours a move to Real Madrid.
Should Real’s longstanding interest in Falcao fail to materialise, though, Liverpool would be
willing to put together a £20 million package to sign the prolific Colombia international on a
season-long loan.
Balotelli’s emergence as a realistic alternative indicates that Liverpool are preparing
themselves for the likelihood that Falcao will prove to be beyond their reach.
It is also indicative of their growing awareness about the risks of having only Daniel Sturridge
and Rickie Lambert to rely upon until January.
Striking figures
0.47 Balotelli’s goals per game ratio in the Premier League and Serie A
4 Red cards in two and a half seasons with Manchester City
£160,000 Weekly salary Balotelli is seeking
4 Title winners’ medals in England and Italy

He's got a good scoring rate that has gotten better since his debut aged 17 for Inter.
30 goals in 54 games for Milan is excellent.

World class ability but inconsistency and attitude seem to be his biggest enemy. Could Peters work his magic or is it impossible?
I was on board with the loan signing but 17ish mill for him is a big risk.

He's 24 years of age (anybody else shocked by that or just me??) - even if he sits on the bench for us for 3 years, we'll still get close to that 17M back.

I agree, I've followed him since his Inter days and he's got an abundance of talent. Got it all, I mean physically, technically, he's even quite intelligent, only on the pitch though.
The problem he has is, as you all know, his attitude.
No one seems to get through to him, even Mancini who he sees as his mentor couldn't do it.
I'd love to have another athletic striker (Sturridge) in the team. I know that I was against the deal at first but I'm fucking desperate now.

Also, I wouldn't worry about his scoring record. In our system he'd score goals for fun.

He's fucking rubbish more often than not.

He's also the laziest moaniest striker I've ever seen live.

Wouldn't fit our game plan and work ethic at all.

Massive no thanks.

I think it's misguided to see this as an investment for the long term with any serious hope of reforming him. He is what he is, and anything else is a bonus. This is just a calculated risk: on the one hand you have a world class talent who fits the requirements absolutely ideally for a reasonable price, and on the other you have his laziness and borderline insanity, and our dire need and lack of alternatives.

It's a reasonable compromise.

I seem to remember thinking he was quite a selfish striker at City but in here he is very much a team player. Crops up on the wings too. As I mentioned in another thread, I think he'd be a great addition to the squad.

Has anyone asked if he actually wants to leave Italy and move back to the north west again?
Did he ever get settled when he was at Man C?

"I have to say thanks to all the City fans because they've been very nice to me and they always supported me in the good and in the bad moments," he said.

"And I have to thank my team-mates and the manager. Everything else, I'm happy that I left England.

"Good things - only when I get to Carrington to train. So my team-mates and manager. And the bad things? Everything else.

"The press, first. The weather. The food. The way you drive. That's it.

"To be honest the Premier League is an amazing league and I think it is the best. The crowd and the pitch ... it's an amazing league.

"I don't know in the future if I could come back. For the moment I'm here (Milan)"

Fabio Borini in 2012: "I was talking to Balotelli about England, he told me that Liverpool had the most exciting fans to play in front of."

I'm thinking that Balotelli is our Remy replacement (to replace Borini).

We'll still go for Falcao on loan to buy too, potentially giving us...

Sturridge
Falcao
Balotelli
Lambert

... as our 4. That's a fine mix of styles, age, experience - and we'd magically be spending the Suarez money on Falcao and Balotelli (presuming we'd have a buy option for Falcao as per reports).

Mirror saying its the committee thats pushing for Balotelli, not Rodgers.

Its the Mirror mind.

You're as nuts as Mario if you think that's who we're going to have come the 1st of September.
