In recent weeks we all focused on the negative, on what was not working and what needed to change. Now that Rodgers has been fired, what are some of the positive aspects of his tenure that you would like to point out? Let's focus not on the things that will stay in the past, such as the memories of the 2013-14 season, but specifically on things that will outlive Rodgers' reign, things Rodgers brought to the club that give the new manager a solid foundation to build on.

I will start us off with this: fullbacks. For all the criticism of the transfer committee and Rodgers' stubbornness in pushing for his preferred targets, in this case everybody worked exactly like they were supposed to in pursuing the deals for Clyne, Moreno and Gomez. We got players with real talent and upside and good attitude all for very reasonable prices in today's crazy market (£12.5M, £12M and £3.5M respectively). We also have Flanno coming back from a long-term injury and it was Rodgers who gave him a chance to show what he could do. I think for the first time in roughly 7 years we can say that our FB options are generally OK. The new manager will probably agree. Thanks, Brendan!

Restoring of the oldest This is Anfield sign to the tunnel.

Player wise. Leaving us with Coutinho and Firmino. Perfect fit for Klopps 4-2-3-1

Thanks for quickly realising Andy Carroll was a turd and immediately flushing him out

Gomez is a cb playing at lb.
The only thing I can thank him for is the title run 2 years ago.

His departure is the right decision but I'm still not sure about the timing (possibly too soon, possibly overdue) but it had become inevitable. So my instinct now is to block out all of the bad and just reflect on that incredible season. He doesn't get the credit he deserves for that. Yes, Suarez and Sturridge were banging in the goals but he sent us out there to bully and take the piss out of the opposition. That was a fantastic season the like of which we hadn't enjoyed for some time.

Actually that's not a small feat. We avoided having to drag a £35M millstone around our necks for seasons to come.

Yea that could've become really tedious, the fact he nearly did the same to Henderson takes away from it a little.

Any involvement in the Sturridge and Coutinho deals and assisting in Suarez staying for another year.

The article Modo put together earlier about tactics was pretty much an extension of what Rodgers was doing with the team the season before last, so it's not a massive shift, which can only be good in terms of transition, alot of the personnel are there, we just need a backbone. I like that Klopp has a similar idea of how we should be playing, even if Rodgers did struggle to fully translate it to the pitch at times.

He did well for 18 months and poorly for 18 months. People can remember what they want to remember, we played some of the best football I've seen in my (near) 40 years, and he should be acknowledged for that. We can argue we had Suarez, we had a team around that too which he put out every week, we had Suarez under Dalglish, and Torres under Rafa, but were barely as fascinating to watch as we were in 13/14.

There have been threads for a year now calling him all the cunts under the sun, he's been ripped apart by the same posters, and now someone tries to commend the good aspects of his reign, they still can't help themselves.

Classy fans, best in the World.

YNWA Brendan (for all those who actually understand the sentiment)

Hes left us with fairly talented young squad, and handled the difficult departures of club legends like Gerrard and Carra. It was time for him to go but I do feel that this is a squad that new manager can work with and be successful with rather than having to completely gut it and rebuild

brendan's cool enough in my book. i only hate him so much because he made me believe in him and then broke my heart

As for the OP, Gomez looks a good player, its not out the norm for young centre backs to be eased in at fullback. Moreno has showed a great attitude and desire since coming back into the side. I like Can, despite his struggles, while I have high hopes for Ings, Firmino and to some degree, Benteke. Ibe needs a bit of confidence back, while Coutinho and Sturridge speak for themselves. I wouldn't write off many, but there's few who have to go, I think most are agreed on who they are.

Yes, but the considering the money he was given to replace those players it kinda cancels it out.
I know that we're supposed to look at the positives in this thread, but let's look at the extreme.

Diego Simeone for instance came into a side that just lost De Gea and Aguero and managed to win the Europa League the same season. He came in mid season mind you. They finished 5th in the league.
A year later they win the copa del rey. Falcao is sold and is replaced by Villa.
They win La liga in his third season in charge and get to a CL final. Diego Costa joins Chelsea and is replaced by Mandzukic.
It doesn't work out with Mandzukic, but they finish third.
They sign Jackson Martinez, lose Turan and Sergio Garcia and here we are.
Point is, it can be done. He took over an average team with potential that finished 9th and 7th in the two season prior.
Looking at his net exp from 2012 -2015 it's about +£100 mill. Yes he spent some money but he brought in a hell of a lot more.
And no they weren't in CL when he joined.

Mr Rodgers brought Sturridge and Coutinho to us.
Also we have players like Can, Moreno, Markovic, Ings, Origi, Clyne, Sakho, Firmino etc all relatively young and with the scope to get much better. He bombed out the dead wood and turned round the squad that Hodgson/Kenny left us. Made plenty of mistakes as all managers do but its a definate step forward.
Season before last gets a big tick from me. I know we finished second under Rafa once and I think Houllier once, but that was our ONLY proper title challenge in 25 years. So it CANNOT and SHOULD NOT be marginalised.

I alse think he loved the club very much. I am pretty sure he will talk about his time with us like Didi does and John Aldridge does.
I think he didnt work very well with the committee and that has probably cost him his job, but hes left us a good young squad (no Koncheskys or Jovanovics or Coles or Carrolls) and gave it a good go while he was here.

I don't think there's much positive I can point to in terms of his legacy to be brutally honest. The squad's in pretty good shape but he did more to damage it than help it. The academy is flourishing but again not sure how positive his influence was there - the real graft had already been done by the time he arrived.

But we were brilliant, absolutely brilliant, in 2013-14 and personally I dislike the trend of trying to downplay his influence on it. It seems excessively mean-spirited to me. I think he *is* a bit of a chancer tbh, but my best guess is that that season that characteristic worked in our favour: he saw the opportunity to build a very brutal counter attacking team with the players that fell into his lap and surfed the wave right to the end. Ultimately we needed much more solid foundations than he was able to lay but it was a joy while it lasted.

In the final analysis we're all chancers really. It's just a matter of creating and maintaining a veneer of dignity and credibility as long as you can. Nobody really knows what they're doing or what the fuck is going on.

That's actually very true.
