Looks like the redmen will be getting a shiny new training complex in Kirkby - The youth training centre. £50mill is being spent on it apparently. I like this. :)

Liverpool are set to leave Melwood for a new state-of-the-art training complex built at their current Kirkby Academy base, reports the Liverpool Echo .
The ambitious £50million project will accommodate the first team as well as the club's youth set up, as the Reds leave their 1950s base.
Boss Jurgen Klopp has been the catalyst behind the decision to blend the club’s two training facilities and owners Fenway Sports Group have committed the funds to make his dream a reality.
The ECHO understands that Liverpool have reached an agreement with Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council over the scope of work and funding. Heads of terms will be finalised once a public consultation period is completed.

What would happen to Melwood? If it's housing land the club might get a big chunk of the investment back

Oops, should have read the full report - it is intended for housing

There's no way they're getting more than a million or two for that land, never mind 50 million!

If it were a half mile closer to West Derby village it'd be worth a bit more, but it's not, & whilst I've no doubt that the houses will go, they won't be high end housing stock they're trying to shift there.

Also I've got half an idea the army barracks round there just got shut of a load of land at silly low prices so that will effect the valuation, but I'm not sure cos it's been beards since I was round that way.

Centralise everything in one place, have the first team mixing with the young players more private and secure - oh and no more shots of all and sundry standing on wheely bins

Great news.

Will be interesting to see what we can get for Melwood. Reckon we'll be looking for a sponsor of the new training facilities aswell, just like the Mancs.

The move makes perfect sense however the end of the Melwood era will also be a little sad.

Great memories of going there in the school holidays and clambering up the drainpipe whilst carefully avoiding the anti vandal paint to sit on the roof to watch the 5 a side practice games and John Barnes making a complete arse of anyone who attempted to tackle him.

Yep, used to love walking down to Melwood & watching training, no wheelie bins then so we'd take it in turns to watch on each others shoulders.

Used to love getting new players to sign the footy every season on their way in or out, as well as getting the programmes signed, if there werent loads of us they'd often stop & chat too.
