yesterday he proved how important he was to the team and how bereft we are of ideas with out him. I guess the two games prior, where efforts were questionable was probably fatigue and disappointment coming back from a hammering in the AfraCon cup. If Mane does get injured Koop needs to workout another way of playing or mould someone to fill Mane shoes

More players with his traits are required in the summer. It's Been obvious for years. Pace and decision making.

I Would hope we spend the bulk of the transfer budget on these sorts of players.

and a keeper and a center back and a holding midfielder

It's not just him though. If the other players had played as well as they did last night in Manes absence we wouldn't have been so poor. Everyone was brilliant yesterday.

He is vital to the side, though, and is comfortably our best finisher. Klopp simply has to find another player of his ability this summer.

Yes they would have played well but Mane is the only one with the guile and strength to make those scoring chances happen - his finishes are something we can never expect from the others, and both were typical striker finishes. Key to it was the way we approached the final third and his (Mane's) ever present threat with his pace and strength. We did not have anyone like him during his absence and of course we were going to miss him. It should have been obvious to our management this - because if you think about it - only his signing has made a telling difference to our team from last season - the others are improvements but more on the "stability/style" front rather than cutting edge front role. If you remember from last season - teams started parking the bus even then and we ended up drawing a load of games over the Christmas period / into Jan.

One thing I would caution regarding this result is that Spurs had two key players missing that kind of hindered them - definitely it would have been interesting to see Danny Rose against us and how we coped - he is one of their most potent offensive threats.

Ira not just him but his pace was invaluable, noon else in the team would've closed down dier won the ball and got through on goal like mane did .

Normally yes, but I doubt he would have been yesterday. He'd have had to mark Mane and would have been pushed back on his heels for most of the time. They missed him far more in defence than they would have in attack IMO.

We've had matches where we've missed key players too, and nobody bought us any drinks.

To be quite honest, I've come to be more worried about teams such as Hull, Swansea etc. than Spurs.

I think it's six of one, half a dozen of the other. When Mane plays he stretches teams, both on the counter and around the full back, so it creates space for our other players to play their game. I also think, as touched upon during the match commentary, the big teams generally want to try to dominate against us, so they try to play and to attack. Which leaves more room than when your Hulls and Burnley's put 11 men behind the ball. I think that's where Mane is crucial, because he's able to slow things down and then accelerate to get to the byline, etc. He's really important to us in breaking teams down. He was important yesterday, but everyone else performed too. You can see how blunt we are though without him, because no one really scores as consistently.

I'm just so happy we have him. he's a deadly bastard and if we can bring in another 2-3 players like him we'll be laughing!

Yeah, he's wonderful. But I am not sure we can buy another two Mane level players that easily

Although three Sadio Manes in attack would be nice to see

Pace, guile, workrate and finishing ability. He's a genuine match winner, but we can't become a one-man team

This is exactly the type of player we needed in January that I was talking about with Ryan.

Frightening pace, skill, aggression and finishing.

He's the only player in the squad that can stretch teams.

It might be a minor thing but I don't like his arrogant celebrations. It reminds me of Henry, it's like he's saying I'm too good for this place.

Have you seen how he celebrates his team mates' goals?

It's about time we had someone with a bit of cocky arrogance AND the talent to go with it. I know what you mean, but he's a winner and if that's how he reflects it then so be it.

Who were all these pacy, goal-scoring, available Mane-equivalents we should have bought in January then?

The discussion wasn't if they were available, it was whether we needed them. You were adamant we didn't as we had the best attack in the league, despite all the warning signs.

I was right then and I'm right now, our attack only works when everyone is playing well, as soon as 1 or 2 have an off day we are screwed.

Of course, it's more a fear of thinking he'll be looking for a move to a 'bigger' club sooner rather than later

That's because he's a cunt.

Good footballer but a horrible cunt.

lol only dreamy could compare a forward to probably the premier leagues greatest of all time forward and use it in a negative context

The idea that Mane is some goal-scoring machine is not true if you look at his record. What we wanted was someone with pace, guile, and a bit of fight in them. The goals could come from anywhere but a goal-scoring ability of some kind would have helped. All we needed was someone to break down that final third because God knows the only reason we lost those games was because we could NOT effectively break down opposition defenses. The other two front men are too light weight-weight to be effective against packed defenses. That would have been enough for us and I pray that Mane stays fit for the rest of the season.

I think if Mane is injured I would play Milner on the wings and have a Gomez at LB. next season buys would include a LB, a GK, a winger and a striker. The gross outlay would probably be £120m minus sales of probably around £70m

For sheer running ability and pace alone, I'm not sure why we didn't recall Markovic (if not, for just January; could have loaned him out at the end if we didn't need him). Yes, he's a bit of a pansy, but he at least gives the threat for running in behind.

Look at Chelsea, recalled Ake (at the mere hint of an injury to Alonso) and the man is sitting in the stands now and not playing at all. Cuntish thing to do, but he's their player and it made sense at the time.
