The Reus delusion

Just out of curiosity, what type of impact does he need to make to in order for you to regard that 25m well spent next season? Probably easier for people to grasp if we compare it to some of our key guys' impact last season. So, a season like:
- Sturridge?
- Sterling?
- Henderson?

Honest answer, not some hyperbolic one like Suarez or "all of the above". :D

Like I said, he's gladly fawned over Allen for two seasons with a mixed bag of displays and a reasonably high price tag around his neck. He seems to be deeming him to be a success, so I'm wondering the same. Will Lallana have to bag a hat-full and turn in Messi-esque performances?

It's difficult to put a number on it. He basically needs to come in and hit the ground running.
He's a 26 year old £25 million player, I expect about the same stats as last season, maybe a bit better.

Whilst I don't want to indulge you ruining a perfectly good Reus thread, do you think the same about Herrera? Cost more, year and a half younger, proven less?

First off Ander Herrera is CM, he's never gonna have the same stats as Lallana.
Like I said before, I think Herrera will need time to adapt to the league.

This is a Reus thread, kindly leave if you wish to discuss people who aren't Marco..

This is not a Reus thread.

This is a thread about why posters always seem to want unrealistic, expensive players and would also prefer exotic players that they have never seen play over a player that the manager wants.

Or it was until it went wank.

No, this is a thread about the very realistic chance of us signing Marco Reus.

He knows something!...

Jamie Carragher ‏@Carra23 Love Lfc to sign Reus great player would be one of the best players in premier league.

In your opinion, in order to be worth £25m he basically has to have had a season like the last two he's just had... So he must be worth the fee we paid then right? ;)

Because managers often want shit players.

Who have we just bought or are trying to buy that is shit?

Were you limiting the question to current targets?

Our last few managers have wanted a ton of bad players, some of which we signed, others we thankfully missed out on.

As for Rodgers, he's not infallible. No manager is.

This whole "fans wanting players because they're exotic sounding" gets overplayed at times to the point where you can't voice legitimate concerns for fear of being accused of being some Champ Manager fan or whatever.

No, he'll have to do better. He's on a better team with better players and I'm expecting him to perform in the league and the CL.

My main concern with regards to the CL is actually Rodgers. I'm hoping he sticks to his guns and doesn't try to tinker with systems too much. Don't get me wrong, I think he's been wonderful for us and an outstanding appointment, but he's still very green and there's some cunning old foxes out there in Europe; I don't think he needs to try and be a master tactician to beat them - just stick to what we know.

Edit: What I was getting at there is I'm not concerned about Lallana on that stage, he's an elegant player and should be afforded more space in european games. But his impact will largely depend on how we are set up as a team, as it will with the whole squad. Interesting to see if our style changes at all in the wake of Suarez leaving.

You'd think the diamond will be our secondary formation not the primary now he's gone. I guess Sturridge will be the focus of the attack, unless he brings in another out and out striker e.g Bony.

Yes you are probably quite right. If it's true that the style was built around Suarez then it's likely we'll shift to something else, especially with so many players in the squad comfortable out wide.

But there is massive potential in this side, the amount of pace up top to get in behind now is fairly terrifying - surely one of, if not the quickest forward lines in the league. Hopefully with Sterling's added guile and Lallana, Markovic, Coutinho we won't struggle so much with deep defensive lines - so many players now capable of getting the better of a defender one-on-one.

What I learned from his World cup performance is that he's waisted on the wing. Should play behind striker in a free role, but I fear that he'll end up on the wing anyway.
