Christian Benteke and Mario Balotelli among six Liverpool players told to leave by Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp has reportedly told Christian Benteke, Mario Balotelli and four other Liverpool players that they are free to leave this summer.
The Liverpool manager wants to trim his side considerably ahead of his first full season as boss and the Mirror claim the clear-out will result in the departures of Lucas Leiva, Adam Bogdan, Tiago Ilori and Lazar Markovic as well as the out of favour strike duo.
‘A few things will happen, I’m pretty sure,’ admitted Klopp. ‘I don’t know exactly what but on both sides, it makes no sense to stay in the squad and be in the squad when you don’t have a real opportunity to play.

‘We have a few players, maybe who want to leave us and I am pretty sure it will happen – and one or two more players will join us from other clubs.
‘It’s a long time until the 31st of August and we have to work a little bit
Klopp is waiting for Benteke’s proposed move to Crystal Palace to go through, although it is believed that Liverpool are stalling on a transfer in an attempt to squeeze more money out of the Londoners for a player they paid £32.5million for last summer.

Sampdoria have already expressed an interest in taking Balotelli off Liverpool’s hands while Bogdan is on the verge of a switch to Wigan after an error ridden debut season on Merseyside.
Klopp has made it clear he has no interest in holding onto players who will not play regularly in the coming campaign and has reportedly advised the specific few that their futures lie away from Liverpool.

That'll be what, £400k p/w (?) off the wage bill

Yeah, plus a hefty fee for Benteke.

It's clear to everyone that Klopp is happy for Lucas, Alberto, Balotelli, Benteke, Bogdan and Markovic to all leave the club.

But there's always issues with that. For a start, we want our money back on Benteke. Which isn't going to be that easy. Plus his wages are astronomical. He will also want to join a club with a decent squad and profile; can't see him going to China with all the other money-grubbing mercenaries.

Lucas has been available to leave several times, but no club wants to pay a fee, or all of his wages. So he might stay simply because nobody else wants him. Again.

Balotelli is a dismal, overrrated, overpaid halfwitted cunt, who has failed at almost every club he's been at. He's toxic. Only someone desperate or Chinese would want him, but I think our desperation to get his taint expunged completely from Anfield may mean we expedite that move. But where?

Bogdan is totally shite and we all knew that, but some lower league club will take him off our hands.

Markovic is a mediocre shithouse who has done almost nothing at any club to merit any great interest, but perhaps that absurd, original £20m price-tag will fool someone in Portugal to take him back, amybe on loan. Whatever, he clearly has no future at Liverpool, because he's shite.

Getting rid of overpaid, expensive and mediocre footballers is easier said than done.

I actually like Markovic and think with the right guidance and coaching he could become the player we thought he would.

Think you'll be waiting a long time. Surely sometimes not accepting a fee but getting players off the wage bill is better in the long term? Would happily allow this for Lucas and Ballotelli. Yes, we want something back for Benteke and Marko

Adam Bogdan has today joined Wigan Athletic on a season-long loan deal.

The 28-year-old goalkeeper made six first-team appearances for Liverpool last season, including two in the Premier League, following his free transfer from Bolton Wanderers 12 months ago.
Bogdan will spend the 2016-17 campaign at the DW Stadium after Gary Caldwell’s side earned promotion to the Championship by winning League One last season.

Would be a good move as I was also suggesting with Newcastle. This is at least Premier League and close to home. He needs to play every week to get back to his best (whatever level that is).

Jon Flanagan has been left out of the Liverpool squad to face Huddersfield Town as he considers whether to join Burnley on a season-long loan.
The ECHO understands that manager Jurgen Klopp has given the Academy graduate the option to make a temporary switch to the Premier League new boys.
Klopp believes the 23-year-old full-back would benefit from a year away from Anfield to play regular first-team football.
Flanagan returned to action in January after a nightmare 18-month battle with a knee injury.
He impressed Klopp to such an extent he was rewarded with a new three-year deal in March and the Reds boss still sees Flanagan as part of his long-term plans.

Flanagan has proved his fitness in pre-season by not missing a single training session.
However, with Nathaniel Clyne established as the club's first choice right-back and Liverpool not having European football this season, Klopp has come to the conclusion that a spell away from his boyhood club would be better for Flanagan's development rather than an extended spell on the bench.
Cameron Brannagan (hamstring) and Joel Matip (foot) were also absent from the travelling squad for the trip to Huddersfield but both are expected to fly to America for the pre-season tour on Thursday.

And Lucas is injured. So he won't be going anywhere if it's a bad hamstring. Hopefully nothing too bad and he will still go

Considering there's only one club in all of Europe that are remotely interested in signing him for 2.5 million it won't be easy.

We are quietly hoovering up some serious cash with sales. Sinclair, Canos, Ibe, Skrtel & Allen will be about £40m and none of them played a big part last year. Add the likely sales of Benteke, Luis Alberto, Balotelli and Lucas plus loan fees for Flanagan, Markovic and some of the kids...Toure, Bogdan, Enrique off the wages and it's looking like Ayre is doing a decent job FFS

That's maybe £85-90m for a lot of players who we will barely miss, it's not like previous seasons where we have financed rebuilds through losing our best players.

I'm not impressed with what is on the market right now and wouldn't be too upset if we banked the proceeds for January or next summer. I want us to spend - but on clearly identified targets who will improve the first team, not just because we have money burning a hole in our pockets

Completely agree. And, without Europe, let the kids cover for injuries and find out if we have some gems.

I have had my head buried in different shit and not been paying much attention but I could have sworn we sold Benteke to Palace... now im surprised.... and dissapointed...
