Transfer window nearly upon us

We need a good DM, GK, and striker
We need to get rid of Borini for 10m + if possible and get a keeper (Cech on loan would be awesome) and a top level striker.

No way on this earth should we complicate this window by trying to get a DM. On the list of necessities that role isn't even the next on the list. Unless we offload Lucas in January - in which case we're mad. Not because he's irreplaceable but because we've got enough on our plate without trying to bed in another player.

Heard this tonight:

We want to sign a big name apparently, the intention is to sign a top brass striker. Too many worries over Sturridge, unrest between Rodgers and the board over ending up with Balotelli, whom Rodgers didn't draw up, but said he would try to work with as he saw him as a project of sorts who he would "try" to shape.

It hasn't worked out and now the board are giving more control to Rodgers with an eye to the Summer. Rodgers feels like he's been screwed over after saying he wouldn't work under a Director Of Football, and then being ushered into a working relationship with a transfer panel, which more or less amounts to the same level of compromise - and Ayre as the deal breaker.

This would essentially be a big signing that would make or break Rodgers, at least in terms of how much impact it has on the rest of the season, and how much leverage that gives him next Summer - ie, he'll have made his bed. If we don't qualify for Europe, he'll have a significantly smaller budget to work with. So the board are essentially giving him a rod for his own back, or the freedom to have full control - again with no excuse making or finger pointing.

Interestingly, I heard that they have and pretty much always have had a plan B in place in terms of a list of candidates to sound out, should things go tits up. Covering all angles - young, experienced etc. And the list did include Rafa, they have had him earmarked as an option since the Summer of 2012, but the board see him only as a short term option whom would be more or less be made to work with what he has, in this instance at least. The AVB link was kosher, worryingly. Rodgers is aware of this "sounding out" (and is fucked off), something the American's see as fair play, in covering the interests of the club for all eventualities, something Rodgers would see as undermining.

Interesting. I thought the AVB link was from before Rodgers was appointed.

Given the stories in the press and media in the last few days, it looks like everybody is briefing like mad in a bid to absolve themselves of the disaster that the summer spending is increasingly looking like. In the greater scheme of things where we spend £120 million, Balotelli who cost at most £16 million is the least of our problems. And his fee reflects that gamble. I just think our scouting network is not fit for purpose, and has not been for a ling time. We're now being linked to Bony, West Ham's Sakho and, after the match with Stoke, Bojan. If we are, the question I have is how did did all those clubs get them in the first place while we didn't?

Notwithstanding our recent exchanges on the subject of Lucas, I wouldn't want him to go in this window either. Neither, however, would I say it makes sense not to add to the squad in that position. Ironically enough, as the squad currently stands I suspect he *is* irreplaceable or pretty close to it, and we can't be having that.

Remember when a player of his quality would go for 1 million? What a mad world we live in. If we get offered £5 we should bite their hands off.

Sign Sergio Biscuits and he can go.

I'd actually....almost.....just..about like to see Sergio sign on with a huge fee - for another club. Something tells me he would fail badly in England. But I'm just uncertain enough and the fear he could be as good here as in Spain holds me back. I hope he never plays in this league.

Surprised I haven't seen it anywhere on here... some rumblings (from Villa's end apparently) that we're after Delph.

It was mentioned a few weeks ago in a few of the papers. I like Delph, he's a fairly busy player but he's looked woefully out of his depth for England, so that should probably tell us something about his big club/European credentials.

Delph was one England's best players in the recent fixtures

Do you reckon? I thought he looked technically off the pace, he did get involved, fair play to him, but he gave the ball away a fair bit and looked fairly clueless at times. I like him though, I think he's a decent player, but he'd be overpriced.

We shor try to offload borini and lucas.

We'd be mental to offload Lucas at the minute while:

* He's in this sort of form - probably the best since before he got injured
* He's the only designated DM we have
* He's just added a bit of steel and composure to the midfield.

I'm far from his biggest fan, but credit where it's due, he's one of the "musts" on the team sheet at the minute.

He has plenty of energy and played quite well I thought, also against united on the weekend, he was on of the better players for villa.

He is available on a free at the end of the season, so could be an cheap January signing.

We're linked quite heavily with the Genoa goalkeeper Perin. 22 years old and the player Italian media apparantly sees as Buffons future replacement in the national side.

Link to one of his best games by an Italian journo.

I've spoken about Perin before, but I can't see us getting him. He's touted as the next Italian no. 1, and he'd cost a bomb. I can see him going to one of Serie A's big boys. I'm also not particularly confident of getting a really young keeper and coaching him well enough into a top class keeper.

I'd rather get someone who's more a finished article - someone with maybe Mignolet's profile when we signed him (but better, of course).

Lots of talk re. Lacazette. Just 2 goals shy of his total for last season, already 19 in 21 games I think it is this season (the goals number is correct, not sure about the games but I think it's correct). His manager said the club president supports him and he isn't going to Liverpool in January. That's a bit more than a rumour then. Would love him !

Add Cech and I'd call that a fantastic window. I'd be more than happy if we spend it all this window though and then nothing in the Summer (bar a kitty from sales).

We were linked to Lacazette player in the summer - would have been a great pick up for Balotelli money.

12-15 mill euros seem to be the asking price. Havent seen much of him tbh.

I was under the impression we were getting Valdes as keeper?

I think Torres back to us is a 'it's so crazy, it might actually work' type thing.

I'm down, but then again I'm jaded with football after watching us this year
