Southampton away 22nd Feb
Man City Home 1st Mar

Obviously winning both should be the aim, but what should we realistically accept?

These games are joined either side by our home and away Europa league tie against Besiktas which is still a very possible route back into the CL.

Would two draws be a decent result?

If everyone stays fit we can beat Southampton but I think City with Toure back will probably be too much for us.

Throw in the FA Cup 5th round tie and we certainly have a massive few weeks to define our season.

We could be looking at a cup quarter, last 16 in Europe and be placed in the top 4
or
Out of both domestic cups, out of Europe and potentially 10 points off 4th.

Fuck I don't want our season to be over by the 1st of March

We're more than a match for city on the day. We have been for a long time. It's just over a a season, they have a deeper pool of talent to get results. So, I have no patience for people being afraid we might lose to them.

11v11 we are as good as. And with less resources. Our only disadvantage is going in thinking it'd be great to get a Draw, or that's they're brilliant. We're their equal on the day.

Let's focus on Soton - when the league fixture comes up ... One game at a time, whether you're fighting for 3rd/4th or the league as we did last year.

We've got real momentum, a returning Sturridge, emerging Can and Ibe and soaring belief.

But we've got a ton of games coming up and niggling injuries mounting.

It's going to be real tough and we need a bit of luck. Play the fringe players vs Palace, Pardew will very likely put a 2nd string out.

I thought we hade the whole week off before Soton but its the cunting Europa League first.

Palace - Besiktas (A) - Soton - Besiktas (H)- City.

That's a cunt of a fixture list with the niggeling injuries we've got.
The Palace and Besiktas games should be all about using the squad.

4 points & studge will be a lot fitter by then.

I'm bite your arm off for four points now if it was a win against Southampton and a draw against City.

Beating Southampton would really set up us nicely for a run at 4th.

Last season we were this season has been a different story I think.
I would love for our team to go out and batter them but I'm sure we are at that level without Suarez yet.

Lose the next two league games and the Europa league will be our only chance at CL footy next year though.

Really only the Palace game is the one we can afford to rest players for and with it being Stevie's last year I doubt he will want to be rested in the FA Cup

We really need to leave a couple of players in Liverpool for the Besiktas game to get them fully prepared for Southampton - Sturridge for one, and others who might need a rest like Sakho (given he had a knock last game) and Coutinho.

The game against Soton is another 6 pointer and we simply have to win. We're coming from behind unfortunately and there the time to make up ground is quickly running out. It's now or never.

The two Beskitas games sandwiched in the middle we could really do without. The away leg is going to be hard. They will be fired up and we could perhaps do worse than to put out a side and play with a view of winning the tie at Anfield.

Unfortunately City will have Yaya back and as a result look more like themselves again. Great. At least it's at home.

First things first... Southampton and the Mancs both need to drop points today. It's a bit shitty that our good run has coincided with all our rivals' good run of results as well (bar the Mancs). Some of these teams need to have more off days!

The Besiktas games are the other way around (according to the official site).

For a home leg after Palace i'd want us to rest a few vs Palace and go strong line up for both Besiktas and Saints then rest for the away leg with the plan being that we have a good lead on aggregate going into it.

May as well play reserves for the Europa league, that will be our undoing for the chase for 4th.

Only 3 more games more for a fa cup final place

I fancy Burnley to get something from Utd.
Spurs are still our biggest threat in my opinion. They are playing cracking stuff. It really was a superb and badly needed 3 points.

Why?
Win that comp and the chase for fourth won't matter.

We will have to win too many games to win the Europa cup and playing on Thurs/Sunday will hold cause further injury problems.

Part of our success last season was because we had a whole week to prepare for games.

We have to win about 5 games to win the Europa, getting 4th is a much longer shot

Exactly how I'd want it as well. Rest (but still win!) > Kill > Kill = Glory

Cup competitions are much more of a gamble than the league, lets not pin our hopes on it.

Yep, and besides, if we really want to be in Europe every year, we have to get used to this sort of punishing schedule and build the ability and experience of competing on both fronts.

We have to win against both of them really. Not arsed if we get knocked out vs Besiktas if we win both games

We have a much bigger squad this year.
Plus don't have to win a single game in the Europa league technically to win it. 9 draws and some good penalties would do it.

Yaya vs Can. What happens when an irresistible force meets an immoveable object?
