Todays game has worried me. We've played City, Southampton, Spurs before today, all teams that would have a go at us, fairly attacking teams. That leaves space in behind for players like Sturridge, Sterling, Markovic, Lallana, Balotelli to run in to, and have balls played in behind.
Today we faced our first team that are more happy to park the bus for 90mins, and we really really struggled, we missed a Suarez.
Against teams that want to play, we'll probably do alright. But there's a lot of teams in the league that will play like today, home and away. I'm not confident on the crop we've got being that great at breaking down well schooled defences that dont want to push out.

Todays game might have been completely different if we'd have gone 1-0 up from a counter (from one of their very rare attacks), but as the game went on, they looked more and more comfortable at shutting us out for me.

It was a shite game. I wouldnt read to much into it either.
Massive games coming up against West Ham and Everton.

I'm more worried about the fact they did have a go at us to begin with, and they shat all over us. They played well even if they were cunts about it, and Rodgers messed about with the team a little too much today, but it is what it is.

I'm very worried about a few players. None of which were recently bought

Coutinho - has regressed, has become increasingly wasteful, and doesn't seem to want to put the graft in

Gerrard - it doesn't fucking work any more. His work rate is poor, he tries too many Hollywood balls, he can't defend, and unlike Xabi who could dictate a variety of tempo, Gerrard can't. It's either slow or very slow.

Coutinho is a weird one, it almost seems like he has a mental block more than any lack of ability, it is quite worrying to see.

Match for match we're still points up on last season so I'm sound.

This one :

Less said the better but we seem to have lost the attacking verve in midfield that opens up teams. That is Coutinho or Sterling going past 2-3 players which then commits other defenders and creates space we can exploit. I think it happened maybe once today .. and Coutinho hit the post from it.

Players like Lallana and Markovic can do it too, even Allen, so I'm not too worried. However when you need to break down a team playing 5-4-1 that is more often successful than just throwing crosses into the box. Commit players and move others out of position to create those holes.

Once Lallana and Markovic are up to speed then I can see we'll have far more cutting thrust from midfield. I also think that in matches when teams sit so deep that Coutinho isn't the right man to be sitting at #10 or point of the diamond and I'd rather see him wide and Sterling, or later maybe Lallana, in that position.

EDIT. I'll add I found our play far too slow in the first half moving out from defence into midfield or even the wings, in the second it was much better with Sako/Lovren/Gerrard playing a lot more attacking forward passes.

He has all the ability to be a ridiculous success, but he doesn't develop. I was a bit gutted to see him start today.

First off I'd like to apologise for ruining the match thread. I don't handle losses well or impending losses. That's my only excuse.
What can I say about the game, not much. Very disappointed with our performance today.
The inexperience of some in the team really showed today.
It's another case of shoehorning a bunch of players in because it looks good on paper.
The team looked disjointed and out of ideas.
We had a lot possession in the game, because Villa allowed us that. Before they scored they looked threatening every time they attacked while our defence looked chaotic.
I hate to say it but again it's down to the midfield.
Henderson did his job. I wished Allen was fit and I wish Brendan would have played Lucas.
Villa did exactly what Ryan said they'd do in another thread and put pressure on our midfield. Pressure we couldn't handle.
If I could restart this game I would have had Lambert upfront together with Balotelli which would have given us another dimension.
We need to start playing with two strikers.
We did it against Spurs and we battered them.

Pretty disappointed with Markovic, there's talent there but didn't see much today.

Also disappointed that after around an hour there wasn't anyone I would've made a strong case against subbing off, except maybe Henderson.

I think we had a bit of a Tottenham day today, 3 new defenders 2 new mids and a new striker. Too much newness perhaps.

I think we need to be careful about getting all misty eyed about Suarez every time we don't win. We had dozens of games with him where we couldn't break teams down. We've improved through each season as it's gone on with Brendan and I think we will this time too. I'm a glass half full person though.

Somehow when we win I'm the one pointing out the negatives, and when we lose I'm the one pointing out the positives.

In reality we were a lot closer to the side that beat Spurs than people realize. Just happened that we broke through against them first, and forced them out of their shell, and the opposite happened here.

Like I said, onto the next one, just wasn't our day.

That's far too rational.

Yeah, lets give up on a 20 year old kid in his 3rd apperance for the club and one new player with his first 60 mins for the club.
Such a wonderful and logical thought.

Morons.

The new fullbacks, especially manpillow seem to love putting in crosses, which isn't really the way we play. The odd accurate cross is a good thing, but doing a pennant isn't.
I wonder if Rodgers has told them to do it, or whether he's going to school them out of it.
I like the pair of them though, they look good.

Im really starting to fucking HATE Phillipe 'blast it over the bar 20 times a game' Coutinho.
Proper hating on he.

I said at the start of the season this is gonna be a long tough horrible to watch season as teams set out to stop us playing and ive seen nothing at all to change my mind. This season is gonna fucking suck.

Frustrating and annoying and for all the creativity we possess we never looked like breaking them down.

I think Mr Rodgers fucked up the team today to be honest, it should have been
Mignolet
Manquillo
Sakho
Lovren
Moreno

Lucas
Gerrard
Henderson

Sterling
A.n.other
Balotelli

Gerrard is fucking wasted against a team like that standing around the centre spot.
Markovic looks a massive and unsurprising waste of money. Lallana and balotelli looked half fit.....and fucking Coutinho.....well...

The Markovic stuff is mindblowingly stupid.
A 20 year old kid being labelled a waste of money after 80-90 mins of football.

He looks shit.

He looks like a young lad playing his first few games for a new team, in a new country, with half a team of other players just becoming acquainted with playing together.

You might even chuck "out of position" in to the mix as well.

... although, I will say..... Rickie Lambert is looking every bit a £4m striker.

He cost 20million pounds.

As has been said, hes a kid learning a new league so hopefully it will all come good. Regardless, Sterling should have started.
If youre gonna rest your best player when your other best player is out injured youre always gonna struggle.
