Virgiling on the vandijkulous

TBF to Dreamy, there is a difference in his scenario e.g. having a choice from a different club to join LFC or MCFC vs being at MCFC and then wanting to leave to join LFC.

There is, but it's immaterial because, despite his attempts to cover his traces now, he didn't qualify the statement at all when he made it. What he said was that no, repeat no player would choose to join us rather than Citeh. That's flat wrong and, though he refuses to face the fact, has been shown to be wrong.

Pat mate, when you're in a hole, stop digging.

Doesnt sound like Klopp is suggesting we will be getting our ferraris.

Maybe a datsun sunny.

Fair comment, but it also emphasises that under Klopp the days of making "near enough is good enough" signings are over, and to me that's a step forward.

Indeed it is, and I sincerely (even) hope you are right. But Andrew Robertson may have to respectfully disagree.

Again, a fair point and the jury's obv.out on him, but I'm prepared to trust Klopp in that respect, pending Robertson's actual performances of course.

News coming out now that VVD has told Southampton he wants to move to Liverpool. I'm not ready for this. It's like we're not finished with the book of Naby and now we're already flipping open the massive epic of Virgil.

We arent signing either of them.

If we don't get Keita or VVD then that's 1/3 of klopps targets landed - piss poor return, that's before you even look at the failings for one of the two failed so spectacularly .

I need a pick me up to get me over the whelm nature of the Robertson signing and the fluffing of lines over Keita and VVD ,I'd be all aboard a mad splurge on Auba or whoever to get me through the rest of the window

Few stories circulating that he has told the club he wants to leave and that amounts to a formal transfer request...

VVD has apparently gone on strike and is refusing to play after telling the club he wants to join us, he's ready to play but wont be selected for the Brentford game the weekend and is now training by himself.
That's doing the rounds.

Thinking ahead, but if we do sign him, we should bear in mind that if he's a success he's likely to go on strike to move on again. That's reason to put in a few loyalty clauses.

I dunno, once you get to the point of signing players in their mid-twenties for 70M it all becomes a bit redundant.

The only way they're really going to be going anywhere else is if they've failed or reached near enough Messi level to warrant someone paying a crazy sum of money.

He wasn't ready to play last week in Southampton's first game because he's not ready for full contact.

Thats probably why he's not involved in full training and not playing again.

Liverpool remain keen to sign Virgil Van Dijk. (Paul Joyce)

Despite the club's public apology, Van Dijk clearly remains Klopp’s top defensive target this summer. (Paul Joyce)

If Van Dijk does not sign from Southampton, it is unlikely Liverpool will purchase another centre back. (Paul Joyce)

I can see VVD coming in, but if he doesn't, then I guess that means there's going to have to be some bridge building with Sakho.

No CB? This entire transfer window is on the verge of being an utter disaster.
Can't agree with that, we haven't lost any important players, and we've signed a very good player in Salah and an improvement at left back, we are a stronger than we were last season. So missed opportunity 100%, but disaster, no.

Of course its a disaster. The most important position we needed to strengthen was at CB. Going into this season with lovren and matip as our starting players would be a disaster. We will still leak the same goals as normal.

It can't be the players. They can't all be ace then come here and be shit. Need a defensive coach who knows what he's doing.

We scraped into top 4 last year in what is now an ultra-competitive league. Our squad struggled with depth in a season where our only focus was the league.

The competition for top 4 will likely be even more difficult this season. Especially for us, with CL commitments.

The consensus here was that we needed additions at CB, LB, DM, AM/WF, ST. Klopp has been saying for about 6 months that there would be 4-6 new players coming in this summer.

However, the only position we've effectively addressed so far AM/WF. The left-back we've signed is an acknowledged second-choice. Chances are very high that Milner will continue to start.

Season starts in 2 weeks, and we seem to be nowhere close to addressing the various positions I've listed.

It's quite concerning.
