We need a striker

Exactly. Ings has the attributes to be our new Kuyt. Not the most technically gifted but will run through a brick wall, and has the potential to contribute important goals. I really want him to get some time. I think Ings could be a great plan B.
I think Kuyt’s not given the credit he deserves by a lot of supporters for how great his awareness was.
He didn’t just run around like a blue arsed fly. He was intelligent and was capable of playing in any side, under any tactics thrown hi way.
He was a level or two above Ings, that’s for certain.

I don't think we've seen what level Ings is yet. He was a player of fantastic promise who has spent practically the past 3 years out with injury. If Ings gets a run he might well have Kuyt level quality. I speak as a massive Kuyt fan.

Bit of an insult to compare Ings to Kuyt tbh. Kuyt was a proper big game player. Ings is pretty average.

I am willing to give Ings a chance to see what he can come with. However the Dolberg link is dead for me at the moment. We have one Young striker in Our set up and that's enough. We can't fill up the Squad with youngsters only, and Solanke has shown his massive talent and should be given that role at the moment. However for Studge we need a replacement, and I will not mind if that happens in January if the right player is available.

I'm not sure much of an insult was intended, I was a big fan of Kuyt and I can understand the comparison for the purpose of discussion anyway.

As for being a "proper big game player", well, Ings hasn't played any.

Rather than compare Ings to Kuyt, I'd say he could be our Firmino backup.

Plays in the same areas of the pitch, puts a real shift in, works defenders & midfielders, & can be a goal threat as well, despite that not being the key part of their game.

It's not like for like obv, but it's an alternative for the games where Klopp doesn't want a proper striker but when we're without Firmino for whatever reason.

I really don't see it.

He's just not a top-level striker in any aspect for me. His touch is mediocre, and he requires too many of them. He can't play with his head up anywhere near as well as others, and his movement is predictable.

He'll be sold if he gets close to fit.

I think he's an invaluable option to have - when he's at his best IMHO his movement IS impressive and can be unpredictable, he can play one touch football and he can be a veritable Kloppian busy bee. Add to that he's got a superb attitude, the lack of which has vitiated the long-term usefulness of many similar players, and, in a much-rotated squad, he could be an excellent player for us.

Yes. I wasn't aiming at a thorough comparison, I simply meant it in terms of both players' ability to score those 'messy' goals from close in that often aren't attacked when we're running out of ideas. Kuyt's hat trick against the mancs being the great example of that happy knack.
