The bitter and twisted 'Le Professor' is really winding up the Gooners. I'm loving it!

Arsene Wenger tells Arsenal fans: Be more like Liverpool

Arsene Wenger claims the "difficult climate" at home games contributed to his Arsenal side missing out on the Premier League title this season.

The Gunners boss has come under fire from supporters having failed to win a Premier League title again this season with Leicester marching towards an unlikely crown.

He said: “We lost the championship at home against the lower teams, but we played at home in a very difficult climate.

"We have to realise that, away from home, we are championship winners. At home, against the smaller teams, we lost the league.

“This club does have special values though and one I've experienced over the years is to stick together and support the team. There's no success without that.”

When asked about the atmosphere at the Emirates, Wenger said that the home fans need to be more supportive of his team - and pointed to the atmosphere at Anfield as a 'good example'.

“Liverpool are a good example to follow,” Wenger said.

“They're a big club. We are a very big club. I can understand the frustration of our fans. But, despite that, they want to support our team.

"The best chance they can give our team is to be behind our team. Some groups of people try to manipulate our fans, and I believe apart from an agenda, a personal agenda, a big ego, there's not a lot behind it.

"We lost the championship at home against the lower teams, but we played at home in a very difficult climate."

Still manages to have a petty dig when he says "They're a big club. We are a very big club"

This is great. I love taking the piss out of my arsenal mates for their shit crowd. They don't argue that it isn't shit, just that it doesn't impact on results.

Mails already sent.

I'm not sure mute disinterest and the occasional negative banner, constitutes 'a difficult climate'

It's not like Arsenal's crowd has suddenly mutated from a fearsome cauldron of noise singing songs of support and pride, into a toxic stew of obvious negativity and abuse.

They're the same, except slightly more disgruntled. Or slightly more likely not to turn up.

It's not really a hugely significant factor, and saying they should be 'more like Liverpool' is just ridiculous. They aren't, can't and never can.

I read it mainly as a defensive reflex. He doesn't really believe a lot of that stuff any more than we do, but he'll say anything to deflect criticism. In fairness he's not exactly alone in behaving like that, but what is unusual (esp.for Wenger) is targeting the club's own fans like this. Generally when that happens you start wondering how long a manager has got, but this is the Arse and Wenger runs that club, so who knows how this will play out?

Yeah, he's had a fairly up and down relationship in latter years with the fans. Hopefully they'll continue to be hopelessly romanticised by his customary couple of months per season where they batter everyone, before shitting out when it gets a bit cold.
