Did you mean LB? I was tempted to pick Clyne over him, but no point if Gomez and other can cover RB in an emergency, whereas if Robbo has a poor game by any chance or runs out of gas, you'd rather have a specialist replacement.
I think there are 2 players need replacing to lift us into the Barca, RM, Munich, City or PSG echelon, and he"s one of them.

Sure, but whatever people think of Moreno in general, you have to have a balance on the bench. You deprive yourself of options having no natural left-footed defenders other than Robbo.

Utd are trying to get rid of Shaw ... and it would solve the issue of home grow players

Klopp said after the game that Klavan and Matip probably won't be fit for Sunday. But "Dejan is there" – not sure if he'll throw him in right away, but perhaps a possibility for the bench. Looks like Gomez will start... And in this case, maybe Clyne still makes more sense then Trent to chaperone Gomez? I really don't know at this point.

Having watched the 1st half again, I must say Keita didn't play well – he didn't do anything wrong per se, but he's capable of much, much more. The passing was nothing more than safe, his famous close control was not quite there and timing of the tackles was also just a bit off. If I'm right that he's going through a low patch of form at the moment, maybe he actually should start on the bench in the first game and be brought into the team gradually. Or maybe it's all an effect of tired legs and he will be fine once the training intensity drops. Only Klopp knows the answer.

I thought Fabinho was pretty good aside from the penalty miss – generally really like his movement and decision-making, there were just a few instances where he committed to a challenge too early or too late, but this will surely improve. He ought to start on Sunday, but after that it will be a very interesting battle with Henderson.

Wijnaldum was MOM for me – when Keita was signed I said that hopefully this will give Gini a kick up his backside to focus more on the attacking side of his game and I think this is what we're seeing now. He was making so many runs in the channels on the right side that he was almost getting in Salah's way at times – but I'm sure they can work out the spacing issues; for the goal it worked out perfectly as the defenders were all focused on Mo and completely missed the blind side run. Could we really see the confident free-scoring Gini of his pre-Liverpool days combined with the discipline he acquired under Klopp?

I think we'll see

---------------Alisson--------------
Clyne--Gomez--VVD--Robbo
--------------Fabinho-------------
----------Keita-----Shaqiri-------
Salah-------Firmino-----Mane

I'm torn between gini or Shaq starting in the middle but I feel Shaq has played his way into to the first XI for first game of the season. Clyne to get the nod largely due to Gomez's inclusion and to keep things a bit 'safer' at the back.

Whilst I have fears about some of their attackers - I think we are going to dick them. 5-1 opening day.

Edit: It appears that Lanzini & Yarmolenko are both injured. I worry about Arnoutovic, Hernandez & Antonio however.

No fucking way we start without one of our regular PL mids of last season...either Milner / Gini / Henderson start. I think if we play with shaq in behind front 3 then we will need two defensive mids like.

I'm out of touch with a most other teams, no idea who bought what, who's the West Ham manager now?

On that midfield, I'd agree with moron, prefer to have at least one known quantity in there.

Yeah - i largely agree but I would love to see us go out and steamroller someone in our first game of the season. I fully expect Firmino to be taken off very early in the second half so as a result a higher intensity in the first half to make sure we get a good lead.

So is it Alisson now or Becker?
It says A.Becker on his shirt so, I'm guessing Becker? Or maybe both?

---------------Becker--------------
Clyne--Gomez--VVD--Robinson
--------------Fabinho-------------
------Keita-----------Wijnaldum
Salah-------Firmino-----Mane

Subs.
Karius, TAA, Klavan, Moreno, Hendo (may get 10-15 mins for Keita near the end), Shaqiri (to come on for Salah after 70 mins), Sturridge (to come on for Firmino after 55-60 mins).

I reckon Clyne, Robinson, Keita will start because they didn't play much on Tuesday. Gomez will start as we have no other options. Milner won't be risked to start with 15 stitches in his head and probably won't make the bench either. Klavan may make the bench but he's hardly had enough minutes in pre-season to say he's fit to start. Lovren won't make the bench since he's not had any pre-season. Hendo's not had enough minutes in pre-season to start. Lallana not yet up to speed will not make the bench.

We'll win 3-1 / 4-1 / 4-2 .... something along those lines.

Damn we will have a good team AND bench when everyone is fit !

The West hamsters reckon they'll line up something like:

Arnautovic
Anderson - Antonio
Wilshere - Rice - Noble
Masuaku - Ogbonna - Balbuena - Fredericks
Fabianski

They're a bit of an unknown quantity but I'm sure we could murder that defense if things go well.

Arnautovic is a clever player.
I would take any win. Dont really care about style points day 1 at home. Just win.

Me too. I know we are looking very very good during the pre-season and we are pleased with our signings and stuff...

It's exactly these times which make me wary...

Let's just get the 3 points, I do not care how at all.

And the Hammers are looking pretty strong and can do nasty shit, we should focus on beating them.

West Ham have a great manager in Pelligrini, and they've bought really well, I expect them to surprise a lot of teams this season, however I'm hoping it'll take a few games for them to get going, and that's the consensus I've got from the fans of theirs I know as well. Any win please.

Arnautovic and clever are two words that don't go together very often.
Everytime i have seen him play he has looked fucking world class. In my view he was in the same circumstance as Shaq last season. Also I am hoping west ham pre season is not enough for their new players because i saw one game and the new manager has got them playing a fluid passing game with pace. I reckon it will be a high scoring game.

I think this is the kind of fixture we need, a side being transformed by a manager who likes to play footy. They’ll not park the bus, and they’ll try to play football. I’d much prefer this to starting the season against a Pulis/ Fat Sam/ Maureen style team. I expect a test though.

I haven't seen what Hammers has done during pre season so I have no clue what to expect from them on Sunday. I like Pellegrini though. I thought he did brilliant at Malaga before those high profile jobs and he might have the same surroundings in West Ham. He knows what PL is all about and he is a clever guy. But not sure he knows enough about what Klopp is able to throw at him. Klopp has had a few seasons to tune his backroom staff as well as Squad. I expect us to Challenge for the League this season and hence we should have the upper hand in this one.
