Why aren't we more excited about Origi?

Divock doesn't seem to get much love. What's up with that?
Is it just because SCM is my only gauge of fan sentiment?

He's gonna be world class.

He has plenty of fans on here and among the fan base in general, I think

I'm not one, but I hope he makes me eat my words.

I like him, but the problem is that I still like Sturridge more.
Origi is talented but he looks so sloppy at times.

im not a fan but I think im in the minority, he generally seems well received and it is of course worth remembering he is only 21

And I suppose that's one of the issues. What are the genuine expectations?

I'm used to watching strikers as gifted and deadly as Torres, Owen, Fowler, Suarez and Sturridge, so perhaps my expectations are too high

I want to like Divock, I really do.

At times he can do the sublime (case in point the goal v Sunderland). He does well tracking back and always puts a shift in. However he can be very static at times up front when we need a tricky striker to unlock the door. That's his main downfall, he doesn't do switching positions up front as well as others, possibly because he's as true a #9 as we have in the squad.

We've been blessed with Strikers over the years from Fowler to Suarez. He's 21 as a few people have pointed out so there is room to develop, however I'm not so sure he actually will to the point where we think he's a great striker for us.

That's the issue I'm trying to highlight.

Is he going to be as good as Torres, Owen, Suarez, Sturridge or God?

Highly unlikely.

Is that good enough for Liverpool?

Which one of those was leading a World Cup dark horse at the age of 20, keeping the likes of Lukaku on the bench?
Benteke was their first choice but he was injured.
Anyway, I might be wrong to say that they're bigger talents but their potential is at least as high.

The top goalscorers just KNOW they're gonna score and even if they miss it doesn't affect their confidence the next time a chance presents itself c/f Fowler, Owen Suarez, Torres etc and Ben Woodburn took his chance against Leeds with such assuredness that I'm hoping he'll follow suit.

Divock is very talented, very fast and very strong BUT my instinct tells me he could be another Heskey i.e. Strong, fast and can score goals from time to time but lacks enough belief. No matter how good Heskey was in a game he seemed to lack total confidence in the next match, he seemed brittle. Origi scored a belter on Sunday but shrank back into himself in the 2nd half. I know he's young but a young Owen, Fowler, Torres etc, having scored one, would have been screaming for the ball, making decisive runs etc but Origi was almost invisible in the 2nd half.

Obviously it's way too early to write him off but he needs to grow a pair, demand the ball, expect to score everytime and to believe he is the best option for LFC as a striker.

My mate's lad took a banner to Wembley last season with "Origi Pirate Material" ... he had to explain it to me

You're just not down with the kids!

Although in fairness, most of the kids who bought it are probably now in their mid to late 30s, given it's about 15 years old.

Clever banner though, good work.

We're not excited about Origi as we've just lost a game and are in a collective bad mood with nothing good to say about anyone.

I like Divock. I think he will develop well and have a proper career with us. He will never be a Fowler or Torres which I had enourmous pleasure to watch, but I still think he can offer a lot for us.

Pesam - I don't buy the Heskey comparison, or him lacking self belief. He missed a sitter at the weekend then bagged a more difficult chance with aplomb and supreme confidence. His record since later last season is excellent, in terms of goals to appearances.

The comparison to Sturridge is interesting. He didnt get more than 10 league goals in a season until he was 23.
Is Sturridge a better finisher? Obviously but he's also 6 years older.

Origi is 21. Easy to forget that he's a young lad with time on his side to develop into a brilliant footballer.
Klopp can transform him into something special as he got all the tools to succeed.
More goals will also come with more development and experience imho.
