WTF is the point???

Would he want to be a first choice at Sampdoria, or just be in the squad here? It's not going to look that great on his CV going there. I'm really not sure what is best for him, he's in a difficult position. He's got 33 international caps for a very big team, and he's played for 2 or 3 massive football clubs, but he's now in a position where another big one wont take him as his performances don't justify it. He was a 1 in 2 at Milan, and a 1 in 3 before that at city - he's come here and turned into a 1 in 10.
He can either go to a much lower grade of club, or work his arse off, stay here, hope rodgers goes 2 up top, plays him in a cup game and he has a run of absolutely brilliant games scoring a bagful, so he can get himself in contention.

He needs to go to sampdoria and rip shit up.

He's young enough for someone to take another punt on him

That's one of the weirdest posts I've ever read on a forum.

Why do posters who, as you suggest, are presenting differing opinions need to get together to agree on a consensus before you can join the debate?

A person posts his / her opinion and then someone else can then choose to comment on that. It's not that hard and you've been managing fine up until now.

Well, my thinking was that the posters who claim that "Rodgers set up Rickie and Mario to fail (possibly intentionally)" are generally on the same side of the debate. I am on the other side - I don't think so at all. He made some mistakes (who doesn't?), but he did try to make it work. So what I was saying is that unless the "Rodgers set them up to fail" side can agree on one of the two arguments they use to support that statement, any productive debate with the other side can't happen as it's not possible to refute two mutually exclusive arguments.

Would it be possible to sell Sampdoria £5M with a 50% sell-on clause. If he is successful, he will move again for £15-20M total (of which we get 50%). Sampdoria gets a good player which they control and can resell at will.

We could also structure in a bonus if they don't sell and he has scored X goals or made Y appearances.

Seems like some sort of deal should be possible.

Sensible suggestions in principle, but any club taking him off our hands will know (a) that the "if" in "If he is successful" is a very big one indeed and (b) that we're desperate to offload him. In their position I'd drive a very hard bargain indeed, because I'd know that the chances are we'd go for it.
