Not counting football, but what's your favourite sport to watch?

I'm plumping for Rugby

Emphatically thirded.

I think I prefer watching baseball to rugby.

I love the strategy behind it all. It's tremendous to watch if you take the time to learn the game,

I can believe that, judging by the way people I respect (including you) who know the game talk about it.

It's a hard slog to actually learn the game though, I struggled to get into it the first few times I went to games but the more I went the more I learned, normally from the real fans around myself and my mates at the time.

The setup of the game is such that it's a lot more competitive than football, despite huge disparities in the money available to clubs to spend. I love the whole organisation of the sport, I love the clarity of thinking that exists in management decisions, strategic thinking etc. A lot of my views on the management and organisation of football have been completely coloured by what I've learned about baseball.

It's a pity you're in the States in the baseball offseason, because I'd have recommended that you go see a game if it's possible where you are. It's a thinking mans game, so I think you might have enjoyed it.

On a complete sidenote, I bought that CD yesterday. Looking forward to it's arrival.

Let me know how you get on with them. If you want any follow-up recommendations, just whistle.

Cricket in this order
Test, one day, 20/20.
Then F1, boxing, athletics.

I love cricket too, and in the same order. In fact I'd apply most of Rosco's comments on Baseball to Cricket. It is a game that is well worth the effort to find out what is going on. Until you understand something of the subtlety of the strategies being employed to remove the batsman you'll never appreciate the game.

1: Rugby
2: Cricket
3: Boxing

Favourite events:

Rugby: Wales v England (especially over the last 3 years) & Any British and Irish Lions game.
Cricket The Ashes: England & Wales v Criminals

For test cricket to grip you you need well poised test matches. The last Ashes series in England was like that. Fascinating battles between bowlers and batsmen, introduction of certain bowlers at key times- great captaincy. It is great when you see a bowler lure a batsman into a trap- the wrong shot- sometimes in a single over and sometimes over a series of overs. There are some battles between batsmen and bowlers that really stick with you- Atherton vs Donald was a peach some years ago

Tennis
Rugby
F1
Cricket (test, then one day, dont care much for 20/20 TBH)
Boxing
MMA/UFC (this & Boxing are constantly swapping places due to the lack of decent fights in boxing, MMA prob shades it at the minute)

Yup, thats why i believe Australia are the best in the world, because they rotate the strike well.
Quick singles are massive in test cricket.
I would fancy any good bowler to get out any good batsmen if allowed to bowl 3 consecutive overs at him.

Seal clubbing.

It's only good live though. On TV the blood isn't quite bright enough, even with high definition.

Hockey and UFC, though I do watch a fair bit of football as well. I watch highlights of everything when I can.

Totally. I love it when I lived there and there were games pretty much every other day. One of the best ways to learn it I found, was to actually score a game using the scorecard in the programme.
