what kind of outlay will be outlayed on a replacement for sami?

8 mill? a bosman? one of the 'kids'?

Good Q.

If one of the current youngsters are indeed promising I wouldn't mind seeing him as a fourth choice otherwise I'd be tempted to look for a new 'unknown' in the Agger/Skrtel mould who isn't going to demand a starting-spot at first sight.

Mathias Zanka is a brilliant prospect and I reckon we could get our hands on him at around £3M. He's very Agger-esque already and we've been sniffing around him for some time.

Has played 54 games for Danish champions FC Copenhagen just turning 19-years-old.

Tall lad, very good in the air and on the ground as well. Is probably going to end up in a top-flight club but he'll do good with a Season or two learning the trade behind defenders like Carra, Agger and Skrtel.

Played alongside Hangeland as 17-year-old and has got a lot of followers around Europe already, Liverpool FC amongst others, so he probably won't come that cheap after all, but bearing in mind the financial crisis I reckon we could get our hands on him for a fee in the £3M - £4M mould.

lolzers.

I don't think we should sign anyone. Let one of the 'kids' have a go when needed.

Said in the other thread though, that I was pretty impressed with Shaktar's long haired CB in the UEFA Cup final. Don't know his name and don't remember seeing him play before, but he was good in the air and passing range was top class.

Was it Chygrynskyy (spelling) Ken? I thought he was excellent in that game. And he had long hair.. :)

We have Carra, Skittles and Agger

That'll do for now

We should concentrate on a RB and probably a LB

Glen Johnson would be a decent start

Yeah, no signing CB's this summer please Rafa. Let one of our youngsters have the chance to cover the 4th spot.

Do we really need an establish 4th centre back? It's so hard to find playing time for all 3 centre backs as it is now. Use one of the kids as a 4th centre back.

By the way, Skully's pic of the monster in the air looks like spaghetti meatballs.

from shankslegend off rawk.

David Wheater

We made an initial enquiry about him yesterday.............. It looks like Rafa has sounded him out as Sami's replacement.

Looks like he may be able to get him for a little as 3 million.

Very good bit of business in my opinion. Experienced and a very good player IMO and still quite young by all accounts.

still quite young by all accounts? wtf does that mean?

Is this Wheater guy actually any good?

I've only seen Boro play a couple times and I don't remember anything about him other that he's tall and mean looking.

i have no idea, but it seems like a waste of time to me. another 'small sum' for the fuck of it.

rafa should promote a kid. he is sending money on them left and right show some faith in them.
all our transfer money should go on three positions only; RB LM and a forward or two positions if the left midfielder is equally adapt at playing as a forward (or vice verser).

Last time I watched Boro play 90 minutes David Wheater put in one of the worst defensive performances I've witnessed.

Not convinced at all.

from bbc transfer gossip..........
Defender Michael Turner has disappointed Liverpool by pledging his future to Hull. (Various)

I would suspect that we are making enquiries about more than Wheater and Turner as a replacement for Sami. Who we end up with is anyones guess.

Btw......... isn't Shankslegend the bloke who was 100% sure that we were being sold to the arabs?
