Wow! OK, this was just 15 minutes against Napoli's subs in a game we lost 3:0, but it's still very impressive. It seems like he's a kind of player who will look a natural at any position you put him in. He's too creative to be stuck at CB, but maybe will soon be too bulky for a FB – maybe midfield is his future?

So he played left back? Do we think he's gonna be 1st choice cover for Robbo this year? He played right back against Wolves didn't he? Maybe he's the cover for both full back some/most of us have been asking for us to buy.

He'll be like a new signing...

He looked very assured attacking but one thing I actually really liked was a big defensive header he made back to Ming - good to see he's got a leap on him and isn't afraid to use it.

I'd rather we used this guy as back up to the wing backs (and Larocsi when he returns) than Gomez, who for me has the potential to be a world class CB and should be back in that role.

He played CB against Wolves (with Fabinho after Lovren went off injured on 2 mins). Has played RB for Academy & U23s I believe

He should concentrate on his defending more than the flicks. Could easily get 10 games this season, future cb

Netherlands international Memphis Depay has labelled Liverpool defender Ki-Jana Hoever a 'Young King'. The centre-forward, who featured for Lyon as they battled it out against Jurgen Klopp's side in Geneva, also exchanged shirts with the teenager.

Hoever, who penned a new long-term deal with the Reds ahead of the match on Wednesday, was at the heart of the action along with his compatriot Depay. The former Manchester United star opened the scoring from the penalty spot inside five minutes after a blunder from returning shot-stopper Alisson. Despite a calamitous start Liverpool clawed their way back into the pre-season tie with Roberto Firmino tapping home the equaliser. Hoever then helped launch the Reds into a 2-1 lead after his cross was sliced into the net by Lyon defender Joachim Andersen.

The 17-year-old, who made his senior bow last season aged just 16 years and 354 days, shared a photo of the No.11's match-worn shirt and wrote: "Thanks bro". Depay re-shared the post to his Instagram story with the caption which read: "Young king". The 25-year-old, who is close friends with Gini Wijnaldum, was linked with a move to Anfield earlier this summer.

Like fuck did Bobby "tap home the equaliser" .. he banged it in, great goal. Tapped it in .. huh.

He looks so much better at RB than Gomez ever has. This was not a shabby pre-season minnow. Lyon and Depay have quality. Cannot believe his age.

I think Hoever is RB cover and maybe left-side too. I would actually love to throw him in tomorrow and see what happens against City. Maybe not a start, but 2nd half or 30 minutes.

[article]Jurgen Klopp will let Dejan Lovren leave Liverpool if interested clubs are ready to meet a valuation which will rise to £20m.

And the Anfield boss will take such a risky decision because of his complete faith in talented teenage defender Ki-Jana Hoever, who has been promoted into the Reds squad for the Super Cup final in Lovren’s absence.

The Croatia defender, who appeared in the 2018 World Cup final, is a surprise absence from the squad which travelled to Istanbul, with the club citing illness as the reason for leaving him back in England.

But both Roma and AC Milan have made inquiries in recent days, with Klopp now ready to let Lovren leave for around £15m - with an additional £5m in add-ons - because he now considers him the fourth choice centre half.

Lovren is 30 and wants first team football, and he has indicated he is prepared to take a pay cut on his salary of close to £100,000 a week to ensure more playing time, after he slipped behind van Dijk, Gomez and Matip in the pecking order.

Klopp is reluctant to lose a senior defender, but it is the huge promise of Hoever which has persuaded him to listen to Italian offers…and accept if the price is right.

That is a risk because both Matip and Gomez had long term injuries last season, when Liverpool had only two fit defenders for long periods. Hoever is just 17, but has already made his first team debut - in the FA Cup at Wolves last January.

He also starred in the club’s pre-season games, and that has seen him train full time with the first team squad.

Now the Dutch U21 international has been called up into the Super Cup final squad, and will be handed a place on the bench for the game against Chelsea .[/article]
