Lovren

Of course he gives everything for his country. Based on what this country went through only two decades who the least you would expect from their atlethes is to give it all. And the story where a small country making it to the world cup final is nice. Imagine players from some of the "bigger" teams doing the same!

And he playing some of the best football in his career the same season he was taken off after 20 mins in a PL game is also good to see. Too bad for us that he misses some games but we will be fine.

From the echo..

Dejan Lovren is unlikely to be available for the first month of the season after Jurgen Klopp clarified the defender's stomach complaint.

Lovren caused a stir over the weekend when he revealed he has yet to take part in training since returning to Melwood after helping Croatia to the World Cup final.

The centre-back will visit a specialist in Holland next week to assess the injury having believed it would clear up during his recent three-week holiday.

Klopp , though, has disclosed Lovren had been suffering from the problem during the closing stages of last season, with Liverpool taking care to mange the injury.
But having missed the opening-day 4-0 win over West Ham United, it's now unlikely the 29-year-old will remain out until after next month's international break – meaning he'll be sidelined for the forthcoming trips to Crystal Palace and Leicester City and the home game against Brighton and Hove Albion.

“Obviously he is not fit,” said Klopp. “Last year, he already had a few problems with that (stomach problem) but obviously he could play, and he played really well, to be honest.

“His recovery days were always enough, he was in the next session again, it wasn't a problem. He didn't train a lot at the end of the season because we were more or less constantly playing, but he did play constantly.

“In the World Cup, he had three 120-minute games and it got worse, but for sure it will settle in the next one, two, three weeks I would say.
“In that time I would say for sure he can train already, but not the full programme. That will then take time.

“Again, it's something serious, but not that serious. It's not that we have to be afraid that it takes time or whatever. But at the moment he's not available.”

Oh for the days of literate journalists and competent proof readers. Or just proof readers of any kind. It's as if a monkey compiles reports these days.

Anyway, there were at least two LFC medical specialists in Russia at the WC, who visited players. They also had all of the stats, the stuff that went 'ping' and all that stuff sent back to the club after every training session. It was no shock what condition in which Lovren came back.

But he's obviously not up to a season at this level. CB should be our next target in terms of a big investment buy.

I think we should have bought a short term option, just an experienced pro, but it's easier said in hindsight. The big problems are that Matip and Klavan are both injury prone, Gomez is rash and ball watches and Lovren is idiotic at times too. Regardless of this injury, CB should have been a priority position. I hope it doesn't bite us on the arse.

Yep. It's too obvious a problem for us to have left to the usual 'we've got kids who'll grow into it' mantra (to which I normally subscribe). I think a squad can cope with one defender who's injury-prone (look at City and Kompany), but not two. Actually, personally, I'm surprised Lovren has become the magnet for abuse rather than Matip. Matip isn't that good when he's fit and in form. At least Lovren will produce a few top class performances.

Yeah I don't rate Matip too highly, and in terms of style, he's probably too similar a defender to VVD. Which makes their potential partnership dubious. Lovren has come on alot, but he's still capable of complete brain lapses.

I think it's because Lovren is a gobshite. Matip is just a lanky streak of piss who can't handle this league, but he doesn't have his own clothing line and talk about himself in the third person
Anyone who has an owl as a spirit animal is always asking to be watched for doing stupid things

I see very little need to start slagging our players off, he was naturally going to want to play in the world cup final, we all would, and he has aggravated a recurring injury in doing so...

No harm no foul.

I also disagree that he is a shite player...I've seen far worse in a Liverpool shirt.
