Better news on Joel Matip. The defender missed the Chelsea game due to an ankle problem but the manager is confident he is nearing a return to full fitness.

“I expect him to start the season,” said Klopp. “But for this, he has to train a little bit more. The first two-and-a-half weeks were really good, he became better and better and then he was out.

“Now I think it is a week or more he has been out. He was in a training group today and hopefully he can be back in team training as soon as possible. The season start at this moment is not in doubt.”

It's worrying Klopp has been selecting him when he clearly isn't ready after some niggling injuries. Henderson also said he's been playing when he shouldn't this season. Then you've got the Dortmund season where the majority of his best players were out and it all fell apart.

One concern I have over Klopp is he might be expecting too much. I hope I'm wrong because we clearly need our best players fit and firing this year.

He's got a top team of fitness specialists around him now so it would be highly unlikely that none of them spotted such problems.

Wasnt it because he had an operation this summer on his ankle? And they removed some bolts from when he broke his ankle some years ago.

I'm guessing its not the biggest problem
