Iago Aspas’ agent has scrapped rumours that his client is ready to leave Liverpool by insisting that the club and player are happy with their current relationship.
The Spanish striker only joined the Reds last summer from Celta Vigo in a £7.7m deal, but has struggled to make any impact on Merseyside in what has been an excellent season for the Reds.
Aspas has managed just 13 outings for Liverpool, finding the back of the net on only one occasion – during an FA Cup tie with Oldham.
This has led to talk that he may be axed with Fabio Borini set to return from a relatively successful loan spell at Sunderland, which was further fuelled by the player’s recent remarks at his lack of playing time.
But Aspas’ agent, Jose Rodriguez Baster, says that his client is not looking to leave Liverpool:
“There is no possibility of a return to Spain for Iago, or for a move elsewhere.” He is quoted by The Express.
“Iago has a four-year contract with Liverpool and he is happy to be at the Reds, aside from the fact that he would certainly like to play more.
“But [Brendan] Rodgers is happy with him and they are not thinking about a transfer.”
Reports have suggested that interest in Aspas from clubs in Spain and Italy is high ahead of the summer.

Liverpool are set to bid big for Borussia Dortmund ace Marcel Schmelzer this summer, with manager Brendan Rodgers making the left-back his number one target (Football Direct News)

GK – Karl Darlow, Nottingham Forest
Despite the fact many have questioned Simon Mignolet’s quality in goal since a £9m switch from Sunderland last summer, the Belgian isn’t likely to be shifted.
It means Pepe Reina’s time at Anfield is over and this impressive, young Championship stopper could be the perfect understudy to the current No.1 after a fine year at the City Ground.

RB – Micah Richards, Manchester City
Something significant could happen at the Etihad Stadium this summer as the expected sale of underused Richards would signal the end of their youth policy. The defender is the only academy player currently with the Citizens and after falling behind the pecking order to Pablo Zabaleta, Rodgers is looking to give the 25-year-old an escape to Merseyside.

LB – Ryan Bertrand, Chelsea
There have been a number of high profile left-backs linked with the club as they have made the position a priority for recruitment. Yet Alberto Moreno looks Real Madrid bound, Ashley Cole is too old and Marcelo too expensive, making Bertrand a solid if unspectacular choice.
Source: Guardian.

CB – Jerome Boateng, Bayern Munich
English fans got a good look of Bayern in Europe this season as the Bundesliga giants have eliminated both Arsenal and Manchester United so far. One of their weak links during those ties appeared to be Boateng and yet the Germany international is the player Rodgers wants to take off Pep Guardiola’s hands.

CB – Dejan Lovren, Southampton
As good as Liverpool have been in front of goal – they are the top-scorers in the league – their defending has left much to be desired. Martin Skrtel has been solid, whilst Mamadou Sakho shows promise, but Daniel Agger could well be sold and the Saints’ impressive centre-back Lovren could be the perfect replacement.

CM – Will Hughes, Derby County
Some may have forgotten about this rumour as things concerning the 19-year-old midfielder have gone a little quiet of late. However, the Reds are still keen on the Rams star who despite being so young continues to impress greatly in the English second tier and for the England Under-21s.

CM – Ivan Rakitic, Sevilla
One of the most in form central midfielders in the whole of European football and someone who is expected to attract big money at the end of the season is Rakitic. The Croatia international has been brilliant for Sevilla and as well as guiding them to the Europa League semi-final, has 15 goals and 18 assists in all competitions in 2013/14.

RM – Juan Cuadrado, Fiorentina
This versatile Colombian has been attracting plenty of attention for his performances in Serie A this term and is also an attractive prospect for his ability to play in a variety of positions. Whilst most comfortable at right wing, the Cuadrado has also featured at left wing, right-back and even as a holding midfielder this term.

CAM – Xherdan Shaqiri, Bayern Munich
It could be a double raid on the Allianz Arena from the Merseysiders as along with a left-back, new wingers are a priority in the transfer market for Rodgers. Beyond Sterling things look a little bleak out wide and Shaqiri could be saved from the substitutes bench at Bayern and given a chance to shine in England.
Source: ESPN.

LM – Yevhen Konoplyanka, Dnipro
This was the transfer that so nearly happened in January, but fell through at the 11th hour due to a refusal to cooperate from the Dnipro president. It’s publicly known that both parties want the deal to happen and Liverpool could well return for the Ukraine international in the summer.
Source: Metro.

ST – Rodrigo, Benfica
As impressive as Sturridge and Suarez have been upfront this campaign – with 49 league goals between them to date – beyond the duo dubbed ‘SAS’ there are little options. The £7m signing of Iago Aspas has not be satisfactory and Rodgers may cut his losses on the Spaniard and look to sign another one from the Estadio da Luz instead.

It will be a particularly interesting summer, especially considering we're guaranteed Champions League, without even a qualifier, and we've played incredible football. We're looking an infinitely better proposition now than we were 1-2 years ago. Hopefully we get decent backing from JWH and the boys.

We're in a pretty decent position in that we don't need to fill that many holes in the squad. Ideally what we need to be doing is ensuring that when Rodgers looks at his bench every game, there are 3-4 player of real quality who can change games rather than just make up numbers. For me we could get away with just 3 big signings - wide forward, central mid, left back.

Nevertheless there are many questions that will be intriguing.

Will we buy based on our current 4-3-3 / diamond. If so, can't see more than one wide forward coming in, since essentially there's only one spot up for grabs.

Will Enrique stay or go?

Will Johnson stay or go?

If we buy a midfielder, will they be a DM, box to box type, or a creator type?

Will Borini come back?

Will Aspas survive?

Will be ever see Luis Alberto again?

Will Suso be sold or integrated in the squad?

Is it the end of Agger?

Do we need a better back up to Ming?

Is it the year for Ibe's breakthrough?

Not to be pedantic, but we're only guaranteed a third place finish if we win this weekend.

All this and more on the next episode of "Being Liverpool - Part 2".
Premieres next fall.

I've seen some highlights of Cuadrado before. Looks talented.

I did some YouTube scouting the other week and saw a vid of his - good stuff. He hasn't scored that many goals though. Perhaps it's down to him playing in different positions.

I think Marcell Jansen is on a free this summer. What do people think about him as a budget option / compromise for the LB position?

I don't want any compromises if it's on quality. Is it ?

3-4 players who can/should/could go straight into the first team with those they replace dropping into the 'squad' would be perfect. Then bring back some loanees to bolster quality/numbers.

LB - Alex Sandro and Layvin Kurzawa would be my recommendations.

CM - I really think we should be looking at someone of the caliber of Axel Witsel or Ander Herrera to give competition to Henderson and Allen. @cloggypop How is Adam Maher doing these days?

LW - I'd be happy with Konoplyanka, and hopefully we get that sewn up quickly.

ST - Reus would be the dream signing, of course. Failing that, I'm ok with looking experienced heads like Remy or Lavezzi. Among the younger lot, Lacazette who @Whirly recommended earlier would actually be an excellent choice as a 3rd striker. He's very much in the mould of a Bellamy or a Tevez - pacy, hard-working and willing to play anywhere across the front three.

Can't see Enrique going anywhere, it makes no sense to sell him, just look at our full back issues this season to realise that we need some decent depth there, especially on the left side.

We need a left back to go straight into the first team and have him and Enrique competing for that spot.

I have not seen a lot of PSV this year at all so not too sure. If we are looking at young Dutch attacking midfielders then I want Davy Klaassen.
Aight, though my impression was that Maher was more of a CM, and Klaassen more a no. 10.

Maher can play both. Klaassen is more attacking but Ajax is a fluid system. I would say Siem De Jong was more like the Ajax 10.

Here is a totally made up link with Klaassen

Reds keen on bringing fresh talent to Anfield this summer.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is said to be plotting a raid for exciting Ajax starlets Joel Veltman and Davy Klassen at the end of the season.

The Reds manager is already drawing up a shortlist of fresh young talent that he wants to bring to Anfield this summer, and CaughtOffside understands that he has placed the two Ajax youngsters at the top of his shopping list.
Veltman has already been attracting interest from the Premier League as Manchester United boss David Moyes has apparently already sent members of his scouting team over to the Amsterdam ArenA to check up on him as he continues to establish himself within their first team.
Having broke into the Ajax first team last season the 22-year-old has gone from strength to strength this term by making 26 appearances across all competitions and finding the net once.
Rodgers has been concerned with the performances of some of his defenders this term, and with either Daniel Agger or Martin Skrtel likely to make way this summer the manager is keen to bring in a player with potential to grow as well as someone capable of slotting into the first team on board to replace them.

And Rodgers has also been impressed with the performances of attacking midfielder Davy Klaassen and will also look to see about including him in any deal that cab be struck for Veltman.
Like Veltman, Klaassen made his way through the famed youth ranks at the Amsterdam club and broke through into the first team in 2011. However, it wasn’t until this season that he began to establish himself – finding a rich vein of form in the process by notching up nine goals in 26 appearances.
Rodgers has seen his midfield decimated by injuries at various points throughout the campaign and is eager to ensure that they don’t suffer the same fate next season.
Both players have recently made their first forays into the Dutch national side and are expected to have big future’s in the game. The Reds boss is known for giving young players a chance and believes that they education in the Ajax youth sides will stand them in good stead at being able to fall in line with his own footballing philosophy should they be allowed to link up with him.

Liverpool are watching teenager Divock Origi at Lille. The Belgium Under 21 striker interests Arsenal, too.

Origi, 18, has scored five goals in France this season and has been approached by the Kenyan national team to play for them.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is also monitoring Julian Brandt, 17, and Son Heung-min, 21, at Bayer Leverkusen.

Liverpool eye Adam Johnson in Fabio Borini swap deal with Sunderland

FABIO BORINI could hold the key as Liverpool weigh up a move for Sunderland winger Adam Johnson.

Johnson has been in electric form for the Black Cats in recent times, scoring six goals in his last four Premier League games, amid rumours he is playing himself into Roy Hodgson's World Cup plans.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is known to be a huge admirer of Johnson and will make a move for the 26-year-old after missing out on Yevhen Konoplyanka in the January transfer window.

The report also claims that negotiations took place as recently as last week and that the talks are currently at an advanced stage.

Johnson signed a four-year deal at Sunderland in 2012 after making a £10m move from Manchester City.
Johnson cost approximately £7m when City signed him from Middlesbrough in the January transfer window in 2010, but became increasingly marginalised at the Etihad under Roberto Mancini.

Some reports of us signing Ochoa on a free this summer. Would be much better than Jones to compete with Mignolet.

Ochoa would be great. I am of a belief that 2nd goalkeeper needs to be a character.

Apparently West Ham are looking to sign Cattermole and Micah Richards.
Why is Allardyce so fucking backwards?
