Twenty20

Ingurland outclassed again. They're just not suited to this form of the game - too negative.

Can someone teach sri lanka how to bowl.malinga n murli look like they throw it
I can't understand how the authorities have deemed both bowling actions legal. In fairness Malinga does seem to keep his arm straight but surely the bowling action should come from above shoulder height. It is amazing how much control Malinga has over the ball given that his bowling action seems so wild.

Botha and Murli are both still guilty of chucking on occasions imo. Botha is still getting away with it in this tournament even though everyone knows his action is suspect.

James Kirtley has chucked the ball his entire career. He bowls medium dross, and then suddenly ups his pace by around 8mph with the dodgiest action i've ever seen.

If only England could play back to back games like that.
Super bowling performance.

Yep, just need to sort out the batting now.

Sidebottom did his Ashes chances no harm at all with that display (he bowled with pace and aggression)

The Indians didn't fancy it, thats for sure.

Malinga's action is fine - release is above shoulder height. It's just that he bowls with a round arm action rather than over arm - Jeff Thomson did pretty well with a similar action. Waqar also had somewhat of a round-arm action, also currently Fidel Edwards bowls in a similar manner.

As for Murali, he has been helped by the ICC changing the allowed straightening of the arm to 15degrees after analysing bowlers action in the 2004 champions trophy. Since this change, Murali has been subjected to many biomechanical tests, one which included an elbow brace which meant that he physically could not straighten his arm any more than 15degrees which was filmed and is on YouTube somewhere.
Here's what TV's Mark Nicholas had to say about it:
“He bowled three balls - the off-spinner, the top-spinner and the doosra - as he would in a match and was filmed by four cameras at varying amounts of frames per second and from various angles. On each occasion a kink, jerk or quirk was evident in his action that seemed to come from the straightening of a bent elbow.

Then he bowled the same three balls with a brace that is made from steel bars, which are set into strong resin. This brace has been moulded to his right arm, is approximately 18in long and weighs about 2lb.

There is no way an arm can be bent, or flexed, when it is in this brace. I am sure of this because I tried. All three balls reacted in the same way as when bowled without the brace. They were not bowled quite so fast because the weight of the brace restricts the speed of Murali’s shoulder rotation, but the spin was still there. Murali has a quick arm, as quick as most fast bowlers. This, along with his strong wrist, imparts dramatic energy on the ball.

With the brace on there still appeared to be a jerk in his action. When studying the film at varying speeds, it still appeared as if he straightened his arm even though the brace makes it impossible to do so. His unique shoulder rotation and amazing wrist action seem to create the illusion that he straightens his arm.â€

I think there were a few biomechanical tests on Shoaib Akhtar a few years back also, they ended up figuring he was some kind on freak of nature as he was able to bend his elbow in the opposite direction much more than most people are able to do so meaning he was able to fire the ball in quicker.
It still looks like chucking to me

I saw an interview with him when he was at Lashings CC, where in which he showed you how far he could bend it the other way (It went about 2 inches in the wrong direction)

Anderson lost us that, absolute dickhead.
They were always going to win.

It looked inevitable, but Anderson was a bit sloppy in his last over. They worked so hard to get in a position to win, and spunked it all over the bedsheets instead of the tits.

We were favourites with 3 to go. Anderson is brainless in that situation though. In fairness, our batting post Pietersen is woeful. We should have had 180 + on that pitch with the start we had.

i thought it was more broad's fuck up

Agree with almost all of that, apart from Anderson. he was brainless tonight, but the last 18 months have seen him become a real world-class one day bowler. He has defo been watching Flintoff. Just lost the plot for a few balls there.

Shit happens. It isnt reaaaaally a level playing field when you have a shortened game, because you can afford to go after every ball knowing that you have plenty of wickets in hand. We would have bowled them out in 12 overs if they had played like that for real.
Its a shame, but D/L is a bit of a bastard for the team who's innings is already over. Im also not really sure why the rate didnt go out as wickets fell as it usually does.
That said no excuses, our bowling attack have been terrific this tournament, but our batting looks fucking awful. Im quite annoyed that we took Key, Napier and Morgan specialist 20 over big hitters and didnt use them. We really didnt do ourselves any favours with Shah and Collingwood at 4 and 5, its just not good enough.

At least we can focus on the Ashes now... Proper stuff!

Oh and fear not, The England ladies will bring home the World Cup. Just like last time.

Saffers out at the semi-finals again.

Pakistan have really improved when the needed to in this tournament, Shahid Afridi has been brilliant and dragged them through to the final, but Umer Gul has been bowler of the tournament, it's very difficult to play his yorkers for anything more than a few singles. Apparently NZ he tampered with it after his reverse swing, hehe.

I didn't see much of the game but I saw Gul's last over (which was the second last over of SA's innings) and he was immense. No matter what they tried the batsmen couldn't hit any of his 6 deliveries for more than a single.

The Sri Lanka v West Indies game today could be very high scoring, they played earlier in the competition and there were about 370 runs scored in total.

That's the one I was referring to, it was brilliant every ball was right in there and made it very difficult for the South Africans.

Final

SL in trouble, 2-2 after 2 overs!

And Englands women won the bitch twenty20 earlier on. Not that its much of an achievment cos womens cricket is shite. They shorten the boundaries and everythin! And they still cant hit sixes!

Well done Pakistan knocked out the two tournament favourites to win it, great performances from Afridi in the last two games with bat and ball to win it for his side.
Well deserved hit the games when really needed, hardly played any cricket over the last few years if anything it has brought the side together great mix of youth and experience at the moment
