It would have been a better fight if he hadn't gone overboard with the calf kicks so soon. Don't think it was down to inactivity as he looked in shape and sharp enough. More the game just leaving him behind, his stance is not suited to fighters using leg kicks more than they used to. He should call it a day.

Cowboy cerrone is about his level tbh, he's clearly done at the top level.

Greatest mouth in the game, but that doesn't help in the octagon unf.
Not sure about great shape, he looked gassed after that first round, and just couldn't hold his hands up during that final flurry.

He was saying he felt he checked the leg kicks but he seemed to take looads, and seemed to dig his heels into the canvas, is that to reduce the impact of the kick?
Have i got that wrong?  Sure as heck musta hurt Walked away on crutches.

Lol at talking about character of khabib.

Dana will have to move on and find some new names.khabib won't be back, Connor is done as Ferguson.
    Poirier gathje for title?

He’s said he’s leg was gone after the calf kick. I don’t like the man, used to like the fighter but have to admire the way he handles himself post fight.

Can’t see him getting back to the top. The hunger is gone and he’s underestimating the effect his arrogant mind games had on opponents.

That division is finished, he'll have to persuade Holloway to move up. He wasn't checking shit, digging your heels in just flexes the muscle and worsens the impact unless he has some way of defying the laws of physics. His stance is too wide and not light enough on his feet, so he can't react quick enough and twist his leg so that the impact is on the bone. That's why he used his hands to catch the kicks instead, which showed his mind was sharp and seeing things quick enough, had he put on the kurt angle ankle lock once he got hold of the leg, it would have been over, other fighters might use that technique, otherwise leg kicks are going to fuck the sport up before long. I don't think he was in poor condition, his gas tank has never been that big and getting taken down is the fastest way to empty it out.

The poor bastard was on crutches after five or six solid kicks. It's a fight, you can't fight when you're disabled. Leg kicks have ruined a lot of fights the last year, nobody is going to pay money to watch someone get kicked a few times, hobble around, then get knocked out. It's boring. Actually boring, way more than the takedowns and lying on top of each other method. At least that is interesting to watch the manipulation and the control of limbs.

I agree with Dantes here, in that the lower calf kick is a new thing in MMA and seems to kill a lot of fighters now. A couple of them and the whole fight changes. Feels like a cheat move that fighters have found nowadays.

McGregor just wasn't ready for it, and his stance is ripe for that calf kick.

Maybe they can permit fighters to strap up their knees (and an arbitrary portion of their calf) with the same wrapping they use on their hands.

Gathje kicked Khabib with a bundle of them and it clearly hurt Khabib who still managed to overcome and find a way.
And the mind may be quick but the body need to catch up.  It's MMA and he could have taken Dustin down easily a couple of times after catching the leg.

I appreciate the it's boring stance, and I suppose it's similar to the plays defensively, 10 men behind the ball, park the bus.
But the argument is that shit works.

On the other hand Dustin had a couple of poor take down efforts that had he been against masvidal would have resulted in a knee to the face and lights out.
I'll have to rerun it properly cos I watched it on a lame steam after the event.

Holloway was impressive a few weeks back and looked very good.
But there's a couple of decent fighters still at lightweight and Oliviera was also great v Ferguson before that so still a decent line up.

Even Usman tried the kicks today, sneaky little bastard, before just obliterating his close friend and teammate with straight right hands, repeatedly dropped him, pounded the shit out of him, and left him in tears after the fight. He is one fucking ruthless scumbag.

Dana White also obliterated that little snowflake Helwani too, you love to see it hahaaaaaahahahaa

His horrifically bad whiskey has done well. Covid induced loss of taste is probably a big factor. Having said that, you've now consigned him to bankruptcy by the end of the year. Good job.

Ferguson is finished, like he didn't even look confident in the ring Beneil was pretty comfortable. The choke looked kinda on but Beneil kept calm, won and then started going on about did it for those affected by Marxism.. and then called out Elon Musk for not sorting his missus out with a car.

I thought Oliviera Chandler would be closer.. but Chandler showed all American power and brute force doesn't win out v technique and talent.
Jumping into the body triangle was retarded but he managed to power out and then took a hit with that left perfectly timed and delivered.
    Quite enjoyed that.

    New lightweight champ.

Barboza knocking out the other guy was a weird one.. took a few seconds before his body went nope soz no more.

He was still shit talking whilst he was laid out on the mat with his broken leg. You have to respect that amount of utter savagery.

    He's such an embarrassment.

He was getting the head punched off him anyway, so there was about a zero percent chance he was going to win the fight.
