Kakkers

This just popped up on my twitter feed:

Opposing managers should just play a left footed fullback on the right. He wouldn't even be able to get his shot off.

I'll admit that I wanted Diaz sold because he was getting older and it was the best time to sell, but Gakpo ain't it.
If he's not cutting in and shooting he tries to float the ball to the back post where Salah often is, and you know how good Salah is in the air or with his right foot.

Pre Match - Atletico Madrid (H) - CL - Wed 20:00

First CL game of the season, home under the lights. What do we think?

I personally think Slot will have one eye on Everton but this will mostly show in his subs. I think he'll continue Kerkez who he will give a massive kick up the ass, and likely prepare Robbo to be fresh for Ev.

Lines of succession

I'm sure our attack is worse than last year at the moment. Which is both unsurprising and also odd to be worried about 4 wins in. The thing is, though, I didn't think our attack last year had amazing understanding either. What I did think it has were some simple options, Salah, who was so direct and difficult in space, and a good dribbler in Diaz who was good without space. The interplay wasnt brilliant but it worked enough. Right now when some poor fuck gets off the gravy train at the wrong stop and and he is off and galloping, what's the easy choice in front? Ekitike has started well but isnt making the right runs consistently enough. Gakpo isn't a winger as much as an inside forward, and can be marked out of dangerous spaces. Salah isn't even a threat.

Simply our attackers all need to step up. It isn't just Salah. Diaz was Gakpos chief competition last year and Gakpo has just extended his contract. Is he campaigning to be a major part of a new look attack? Is he pressing on from last year? If so why do we want to Rio earlier, in so many games?

Wirtz? Just absolutely nothing special at the moment, to where he has been overshadowed in attacking import by the player he ousted, from right back. And watch this trick, that doesn't mean I think he never will be special. He probably won't, mind you, but it's a bit cunty going around this world with that attitude young man.

For another trick, I'll also be able to see that he's struggling physically in a faster stronger league, and that his obvious technical ability isn't yet overcoming some fairly rudimentary manhandling and closing down. We brought him in for exactly this sort of game.

That leaves isak. The ready made. One of the best strikers in the world *with a human face, I'm told. So yeah he has to fucking hit the ground firing and it's a tough ask if this shit are still stinking up the place, but no excuses.

Our best attackers are in the past now. I think we miss Diaz sometimes, and people don't show him enough respect, but he was just very very good, he wasn't on the level of mane, firmino, Salah, Torres, Suarez. He wasn't on jotas level, in his earlier years. Not close. But what Diaz was doing last season at the beginning of the season is better than anyone is doing right now. How Diaz entered this team was far more explosive than anyone now. There was a sense that someone was picking up the mantle, even if he didn't, entirely.

Watching Salah deteriorate isn't fun but we should be talking about how he is being eclipsed. Is anyone even up for it?

Who wants it? Do you have confidence in any of them to be the guy? To wrest the crown from Salah? To help some of you move on?

I said it'd be fascinating watching this new attack come together. It's fine now guys, actually. I know it takes time and all but I lied. Im not actually that fascinated. Or rather, I'm sufficiently and appropriately fascinated. So it's ok now attackers. You can just be good now instead, if you don't mind. Well, no, not good. The best. I kind of got used to it and liked it, and I'm greedy, and impatient. I'm a child really. I do this whole Liverpool thing to remain a child.

EPL - Burnley (A) 0-1 Sunday 14th Sept 14:00

People really expected Mo to miss a 90min deciding pen? Never in a million years, it's why he stays on the pitch despite doing his best to justify the Egyptian Pennant allegations

Forest made some mad choices over the last week and can see Arsenal beating them easily. Palace Sunderland could be somewhat entertaining. I expect Newcastle to beat Wolves even with Wissa being out. Everton and Villa will be dreadful.

Momo’s POTS thread 2025/26

We have completed the first batch of fixtures of the season which means it is time for me to start the Player of the Season thread.

For the newbies, I start a Man of the Match thread following each game where you select your top three for the game. The player you select first place is awarded 5 points, second 3 points and finally 1 for third place. There is no clean sheet bonus for the keeper so don’t bother moaning @Frogfish, my decision is final! Once I’ve tallied up all the votes the top 3 are awarded points for Player of the Season. Same scoring system applies. A slight change for this season. In the case of a tie in MOTM, the player with most 1st places gets given MOTM. Should they be tied on all votes (1st/2nd/3rd) only then I will split points.

Last year’s results were Salah, Gravenberch and Diaz.

After the first three fixtures we have 6 players off the mark in POTS. Szoboszlai and Ekitike have got off to a flyer and lead the pack so far. Here’s the table.

The Chelsea 74

That's all right then. Break the rules but show contrition and you'll be let off. Maybe.

-------

Chelsea have been charged by the Football Association with 74 alleged rule breaches related to payments to agents between 2009 and 2022.

The charges are primarily focused on transfers between the 2010-11 and 2015-16 seasons.

Three deals that form part of the investigation involved Eden Hazard, Samuel Eto'o and Willian.

There is no suggestion of any wrongdoing on the part of those players.

Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich was in control of the club from 2003 to 2022, before selling Chelsea to a consortium led by American investor Todd Boehly and private equity firm Clearlake Capital.

The alleged rule breaches concern agents, intermediaries and third-party investments in players.

Chelsea, who said they had reported the potential rule breaches to the FA themselves, have until 19 September to respond.
There are a wide range of options available to sanction Chelsea, including a fine, transfer embargo and points deduction. However, the Blues' high level of co-operation will be factored in and the club don't expect to be hit with a sporting sanction.

Sources at Chelsea also say they have no concerns about the impact of any future fines on compliance with the Premier League's profit and sustainability regulations (PSR) having factored in a potential punishment after the takeover of the club in 2022.

"During a thorough due diligence process prior to completion of the purchase, the ownership group became aware of potentially incomplete financial reporting concerning historical transactions and other potential breaches of FA rules," Chelsea said.

"Immediately upon the completion of the purchase, the club self-reported these matters to all relevant regulators, including the FA.

"The club has demonstrated unprecedented transparency during this process, including by giving comprehensive access to the club's files and historical data."
The Premier League has confirmed to BBC Sport that their investigation remains ongoing.

In 2023, Chelsea were fined £8.6m by Uefa for "submitting incomplete financial information" between 2012 and 2019.
