Hugo Boss

Yup

Slobby seconds

It does seem like we are going full steam ahead with an expensive centre forward meaning Wirtz may not exactly be the new Firmino. He may be part of that midfield 3 and Mac Allister and Gravenberch will be his partners in the middle 80% of the time.

Where does that leave Szoboszlai? He’s right in the prime of his career, captain of his country and another expensive signing we have on the books. We all may say he will be getting plenty of games, but would he really be happy with 18 starts and 20 sub appearances?

Our first choice forward 6 will be

Gravy
Wirtz
Mac
Mo
New forward
Gakpo/Diaz/Rodrygo/whoever

Best goals, against us.

I think about this Yeboah goal loads, he followed up with the corker v Wimbledon a few weeks later. (Every kid was trying the chest down onto the knee and hit the volley on the playground) I was probably pretty close to becoming a Leeds supporter at the time!

I do also love this one from Fashanu, outside of the right flick, top corner belter with the left a little skip when it goes in and just a cool celebrations.
(Davis commentary is also great. Just wowed by the genius of it all)

Oh gawd, I can hear the lightening seeds in my mind now.

Rodrygo Goes to Popworld

Usyk vs.Dubois 2

I've been surprised to see one or two pundits rating Dubois' chances. For sure he can bang a bit, but I can't see past Usyk for this one. Any thoughts?

Pre-season 25

Isakly what we need

Not a small matter

Barcelona’s teen sensation Lamine Yamal is facing threats of legal action after reportedly hiring people with dwarfism to perform at his 18th birthday party. The footballing sensation celebrated his birthday over the weekend, throwing a star-studded event. While the use of mobile phones was banned inside the party venue, images leaked to social media showed a group of people of short stature arriving at the party, quickly going viral and drawing backlash for the Barcelona starlet.

The images enraged Spain’s Association of People with Achondroplasia and other Skeletal Dysplasia (ADEE), who condemned Yamal, accusing him of using people’s disabilities as entertainment. They’re now threatening to take legal and social action against the player, already considered one of world football’s best wingers despite his youth. In a statement, ADEE says Yamal’s actions were “intolerable” as they “perpetuate stereotypes, fuel discrimination and undermine the image and rights of those with achondroplasia or other skeletal dysplasia, as well as all people with disabilities.” The organisation’s decision to pursue Yamal legally stems from its desire to “safeguard the dignity of people with disabilities”.

ADEE says the problem is not isolated with the Barcelona player, but a societal one. The body, a member of Spain’s Confederation of People with Physical and Organic Disabilities (COCEMFE), stated that they are working to eradicate the culture of objectification of people with dwarfism.
“It's unacceptable that in the 21st century, people with dwarfism continue to be used as entertainment at private parties, and even more serious when these incidents involve public figures like Lamine Yamal," said Carolina Puente, ADEE president. "The dignity and rights of our community are not entertainment for anyone, under any circumstances,” she added.

There have been no remarks from Yamal or his camp on the ADEE escalations.

Top 4 next season

I know it’s early, but based on the transfer window so far and just your hunch how would you rank the title chances of the top 4 teams (Liverpool, Arsenal, Man City and Chelsea) next season?

Liverpool
Last season’s points tally: 84
Additions: Wirtz, Kerkez, Frimpong, Mamardashvili
Potential additions: A new #9 and a like-for-like replacement for anyone leaving
Losses: Trent, Kelleher, Quansah, Jota RIP 🙁
Potential losses: Konate, Nunez, Diaz, Elliott, Chiesa

Arsenal
Last season’s points tally: 74
Additions: Gyokeres, Zubimendi, Madueke, Norgaard, Kepa
Potential additions: Eze
Losses: #Partey#, £
Potential losses: Martinelli

Man City
Last season’s points tally: 71
Additions: Reijnders, Cherki, Ait-Nouri, Rodri returning from the ACL
Potential additions: A new RB, another winger
Losses: De Bruyne, Grealish
Potential losses: Bernardo Silva, Gundogan, Nico Gonzalez

Chelsea
Last season’s points tally: 69
Additions: Pedro, Delap, Gittens
Potential additions: Every winger or striker under the s*n
Losses: Sancho, Chilwell, Madueke
Potential losses: Nicholas Jackson, Nkunku

Before I try to answer my own question, I want to make a general point that the fans and pundits alike consistently overestimate the importance of last season’s results to predicting the new one. When we finished 3rd in Klopp’s last season no one gave us a chance of being title contenders next season; when a team finishes at the top everyone assumes they will perform just as well next season, even though in reality it’s extremely hard to maintain consistent level of performance (I would say statistically a drop-off or an improvement of some sort is much more likely than standing still). I think there is more natural fluctuation in form and results between seasons than people realize and even absent any transfers teams and players can just have bad seasons and good seasons for no apparent reason at all - of course there are always underlying reasons, but they are usually quite subtle and mostly invisible to us fans at least until the season is done.

So all this to say I see no reason why Chelsea can’t jump from 4th to the top or why Arsenal or us are necessarily guaranteed a top-2 finish next season. I don’t see another team “invading” the top 4 at this point - the gap in quality between the best and the rest is just too big and is likely to get only bigger - but between those big 4, literally any combination is possible. So my answer, as unsatisfying as it might be, is that at present there is no clear favourite next season - anyone between us, Arsenal, Chelsea and City has a roughly equal 25% chance to finish at the top or in any of the 3 positions below. A lot will depend on luck, individual player form and fitness and starting the season well.
