You can understand why he wasn't happy. It seems mad really that we couldn't accommodate three strikers, especially considering that we then went out and signed Rosenthal the same season and Speedie the following season.

As has been suggested before, there were probably some other issues going on there with Aldridge.

Any inkling to what they were?

I was a bit young to remember properly but I believe @Judge Jules mentioned it on another thread recently.

There was an argument between Aldridge and Paisley at one point which I don't think helped matters. I get the impression too that Aldridge may not have always been the easiest person to get along with generally either.

So Kenny had nothing to do with it?
Seems strange that we couldn't accommodate 3 strikers back then.

I can't be bothered to watch the video because it was a long time ago and meh... but sad all round. I was 8 at the time and couldn't understand why he'd gone.

His last match was the 9-0 against Palace, and he came on to score the penalty - John Barnes patted his arse.

The next year we played Sociedad in a pre season friendly and I remember laughing at all the Spanish players calling him Aldo (as a boring friendly, there was no crowd noise, so you could hear everything the players were saying on the pitch)

no complaints from other teams. None from Ireland either on his affability.
