I'd say adding a salary cap to European football as a good thing. It allows teams to build a squad without having to choose between bankrupting themselves and watching their best players leave for bigger money elsewhere.

Many years ago there was the occasional exhibition game between invitation teams representing the English and Scottish leagues.
