Cardiff City consider Craig Bellamy bid to Liverpool

Craig Bellamy could be set for a return to home-town club Cardiff City as the Bluebirds consider a bid for the Liverpool and Wales striker.

24 June 2012Last updated at 12:11 GMT

The Championship club are understood to be working out the finances to re-sign the 32-year-old who captained Cardiff during a season long loan spell .
Bellamy signed for Liverpool on a two-year deal from Manchester City in 2011.
Cardiff hope to discuss a proposed deal with Liverpool before any talks take place with Bellamy.
The Welsh club's Malaysian owners recently announced a £100m investment plan as Cardiff, who have suffered three successive play-off disappointments, bid for Premier League promotion.
A condition of the financial injection from owner Tan Sri Vincent Tan and chairman Dato Chan Tien Ghee, which includes funds for player recruitment, is the controversial move of changing Cardiff's shirt colour from blue to red in the hope it could expand the club's appeal in "international markets."
Sections of the Cardiff support are upset at the shirt colour change but a signing of Bellamy's profile and stature would help quell any fan discontent.
Bellamy, whose family home is on the outskirts of Cardiff, scored 11 goals in 35 games for Cardiff during his loan spell at the Cardiff City Stadium in the 2010/2011 season.
The Cardiff-born forward, who has scored 19 goals in 69 Welsh internationals is a former Norwich City team-mate of Cardiff boss Malky Mackay.
In fact, Mackay made a last-ditch bid to sign Bellamy permanently for Cardiff in August 2011 before the player joined Liverpool.
Mackay is also is close friends with new Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers and Bellamy is a fan of Rodgers' style of football - but has often spoken of his desire to inspire boyhood club Cardiff into the Premier League.
The Bluebirds have already signed England under-21 international midfielder Jordon Mutch and former England under-21 goalkeeper Joe Lewis this summer.

I wouldn't mind it.

As long as he's happy, Bellamy's the perfect squad player for us.
Let him join them on a free next summer.
We need him this season.

Depends on who we're buying.
I don't know how much he's being paid but I imagine that he's one of the higher earners.
Maybe we need to get him off the wage bill in order to get some new players?
Anyway, I like Bellamy and I'd rather see 3-4 players leave before him.

Didn't he fall out with Dalglish last season? Wonder if his card is marked at the club

As he's said recently, he got on very well with Dalglish. I doubt his big personal deal with Warrior would encourage him leaving now.

In fairness, that doesn't mean he didn't fall out with him.

Haven't you seen his recent press conference? He spoke more warmly about Kenny than any other member of the squad, and left no one in any doubt how much he loved playing under him.

I did see it yeah but it doesn't still doesn't mean he didn't fall out with Kenny or had a minor disagreement.

And even if he did have, that doesn't mean he lost any respect for Kenny.

So, where did you hear they had a falling-out, or disagreement ?

So what proof do you have that contradicts what the man himself says? It amazes me how some get really possessive of certain unfounded rumours whilst happily dismissing others.

He doesn't like kenny! It doesn't matter if hes sang his praises now he's gone, idolised him when he was here, and gushed about him before he arrived. He full on doesn't like him!

If anyone quotes this not to say "lol" you're a fool

Haha... I like Bellars. There may be issues over fitness vs wages, but he's worth his seasonal patch of great form.

if i remember correctly a few people questioned if they'd had a falling out as a possible explanation for Bellamy suddenly being a sub for a fair few games after playing so well before . So i think that's what people may be thinking of but i don't think anything actually did happen .

Like gkmacca said , considering the personal deal he just did with warrior , i'd be surprised if he was to move on this summer . Anyway i hope he stays and has a season like last .

Kenny said at the time that he was struggling with a back issue, it was well reported and when he did figure it was obvious that something wasn't right physically. He didn't just suddenly fall out of favour, he'd been injured and had to have injections before he could play.

His form was terrible after the reports of the back injury so it wouldn't exactly surprise.

Craig Bellamy has ‘unfinished business’ at Cardiff - Iwan Roberts
Iwan Roberts has said former Norwich City team-mate Craig Bellamy has "unfinished business" at Cardiff City.
Cardiff are considering a bid for the Liverpool striker , who spent the 2010-2011 season on loan with the Bluebirds.
Roberts played alongside Bellamy and Cardiff boss Malky Mackay at Norwich and believes his fellow Welshman would relish a return to south Wales.
"I think there's no one better to know what Craig brings to the table than Malky," said Roberts.
"[Malky] played with Craig for a couple of years. They were good friends but they did fall out as well as players tend to do, especially in training.
"But Malky knows what Craig brings.
"He knows his strengths, he knows he can put demands on other players and get the best out of other players around him.
“I think he [Bellamy] would love to come back and maybe finish that chapter off with helping Cardiff win promotion”
"Malky knows he's a leader and he's a player that wants to win things.
"If Malky can lure him away from Liverpool down to Cardiff I think it would be an absolute tremendous signing."
Bellamy, 32, began his career with Norwich City and established professionals Mackay and Roberts were among his Carrow Road team-mates.
Roberts, who was also played alongside Bellamy for Wales, says the Liverpool striker has great respect for Mackay.
"Craig knew Malky had great experience at Celtic, a massive club. He had major respect for what he had achieved in the game," added Roberts.
"He knew Malky was an intelligent man football-wise.
"You could tell [in the] early stages that Malky was going to go on and become a very good coach. I think Craig liked that in Malky.
"If they can lure Craig away from Liverpool it would be a tremendous signing for Cardiff City and a sign of things to come I'm sure.
Cardiff are understood to be working out the finances to re-sign Bellamy, who was captain during his season long loan spell.
Bellamy rejoined Liverpool on a two-year deal from Manchester City in August 2011.
The Championship club hope to discuss a proposed deal with Liverpool before any talks take place with the former Wales captain.
And Roberts believes Bellamy would welcome the opportunity to return to his hometown club.
"Craig's always said that one day he'd like to end his career at Cardiff. He's still based in and around the Vale of Glamorgan," said Roberts.
"He probably thinks he's got unfinished business at the club after the season's loan he had.
"It finished on a disappointing note for himself, getting injured in the first leg of the play-off semi-final against Reading.
"And of course Cardiff were knocked out in that two-legged affair.
"I think he would love to come back and maybe finish that chapter off with helping Cardiff win promotion."
