Blow your kone trumpet

Kone has a history of niggling injuries though. Also a bit worrying that he hasn't once completed a season clocking more than 3000 minutes.

We play roughly 50 games a season (4500 minutes). Our first choice mids need to average 3000-3500 mins, with the squaddies chipping in with 1000-1500 mins. That's generally the workload you need to put in at the highest level.

We faced this issue acutely with Keita and Ox, and were also seeing it with Konate. No point spending 40-50 million on a player, especially in midfield, unless we're absolutely assured of a certain level of output. You can't legislate for a long-term impact injury, which can happen to anyone, but these players with a history of niggling injuries are always a concern.

Why choose one when you can get both 😛?

checked out a BM forum and what the gist of their fans' thoughts on Kone are:

(1) seems to be regularly injured - once in April (hamstring) and now injured again (thigh).
(2) great at dribbling and very attacking - seen as the player most eager to make things happen
(3) loses the ball, a lot resulting in opposing teams counterattacking
(4) eager to sell while the price is still (relatively) high.

He missed 4 league games last season as well. I’d say the injury stuff isnt relevant when you’re available for 86% of the games over a 2 year periode.

Based on the table above, it resulted in just four games missing, but it was a total of 53 days. That would be a lot of matches in a PL calendar.

That doesnt make any sense. It was a knock in pre season.

I’m struggling to get excited by attacking CMs who look aggressive and always with intent to go forward.

Unless Klopp in changing his philosophy, we need to fill the Gini / Hendo / Fabinho roles where players are great at positioning, tacking, ball retention and work rate.

If we get at least one player that fits this profile (sounds like Thurman *might*) then I’m happy to get excited by flair players

Sounds a bit like our last big money midfielder from the Bundesliga tbf

This is key really - though if we have two workhorses in MacAllister and Thurman, then it may still work.

If you play 86% of the games over a 2 year period are you then injury prone? If so the only player we have in our squad that isnt injury prone is Salah.
In my opinion Kone isnt, and by a pretty big margin as well.

I seem to remember you arguing like this about Konate

Kone, Thuram, Ali Mac, Fabs, Hendo, Spanish Steve, CJ and Thiago
If we leave out Thiago that still leaves 7 MFs and then you have Trent playing in the inverted RB. I hope I am not going to jinx this, but having 8 players to choose from will allow Klopp to rotate more. Other than Salah, our attack gets rotated.
Kone and Thuram, gives us penetration from the middle

And as we all know Konates injury record affects Kone.

Thuram hasnt missed one game through injury but I'm guessing you think he's injury prone as well.
He is the eternal pessimist - that's his trademark. So don't take his negative posts as literally negative. The MF is now really progressive, tall, fast and strong

It affects your judgement and track record in these situations.

I have no idea about either of these players. I just know you're usually wrong and we usually sign crocks for some reason.

The only thing we know for certain is that you are 100% wrong. Always.

Good one...

Meanwhile, we didn't win the quad, we didn't get top 4, Everton didn't get relegated, Nunez wasn't great...

Shall I go on?

The guy scored 15 goals whilst still adjusting to the English league. Klopp is still trying to work out how to best play him. We've always known most players need a season to adjust to Klopp's team. This kid will be sensational next season.
The frugal nature of FSG has meant that we don't sign players we need, Klopp has said had the purse strings been loosened he would be more adventurous in the market. It is what it is
Ali Mak, Thuram and Kone, if we do get all 3 the MF will be one of the strongest in Europe
