Boro away

Yes, but they're very very cautious with such players now. I think he'll have a scan - standard procedure now - and be rested.

I know the focus has shifted almost completed to the goalkeeping situation and the defence but I'd really like to see us try and do something about the attack.

It felt like very little was really sticking on Sunday with too many long balls, hopeful knock-downs and lazy crosses to no-one in particular.

I like Origi and he's demonstrated that he can score goals but he really isn't contributing enough in terms of his all-round play at the moment and I think it's been a problem.

The midfield needs better outlets and an ability to keep the ball in the opponents half. We're at our worst having to defend so it's better to avoid it as much as possible.

What are our options?

I wonder whether we'd be better better off trying this out:

------------ Firmino
Lallana --------------- Mane
----- Wijnaldum -- Can
---------- Henderson

And bringing Origi on as an impact sub.

I know it's harsh on Origi as the others have hardly been pulling up trees and he's at least scoring but in terms of overall play he just feels a little out of the loop.

Just me?

Its hard to drop someone who has been scoring though.

Although I wouldn't mind Keni's lineup but with Wijnaldum and Lallana swapping places.

Lallana is pretty shit out wide. As is Firmino. I'd rather see either Origi or Wijnaldum out there.

Harsh on Origi? Sure, but if it gets the best out of Firmino, it will make us a better team - who is pretty pointless on the flanks. Or switch to 4-4-2, which won't be done.

I agree wholeheartedly, I'm a big fan of Origi, but he just isn't clicking with our other attackers yet, that's no fault of his own, the way we play takes exceptional players and lots of practise and time playing together. I'm sure Origi will grow into the team as he plays more and gets more experience as he's still young, but as our central striker at the moment he can lead to a lot of our move breaking down and it's hurting us.

Personally I don't think he needs to be dropped, just play him out wide, he's good enough to play there with his pace and strength, and it's practically a left striker position anyway, but what it allows is for Firmino to link up the attack in a way that Origi just can't, which will massively benefit the build up play for the whole team, it also returns the goal threat of Firmino which we do miss when he's out on the left.

He was subbed early in the 2nd half.

The sub was pre planned because of Lovrens injury according to the Echo. So he could at least be in the matchday squad.
As Macca says they'll no doubt be very careful with him and not rush him back.

He was according to the reports very impressive yet again. Hope he keeps himself injury free as he has a big future that lad.

Swap Lallana around with wijnaldum and I think we would be better off.

Am i the only one with little confidence going in to this game tomorrow? Boro away is never an easy fixture :/

I think we will struggle. Need to up the tempo and press better. They will be dangerous if we allow them to play between our mid.

No need to drop a goal a game striker. And goals isn't our problem. Neither is possession. It's individual errors and a bit of luck at the right time (which we didn't have with WH's deflected 2nd or any number of shots that were blocked).

Swap Origi around with Firmino. Origi played brilliantly out wide left before his injury end of last season and Firmino would then be in his strongest position. I expect Lallana to improve now he's had a few minutes under his belt.

Back 5 are obvious, then :

----------- Firmino
Origi ------------------- Mane
----------- Lallana

-- Wijnaldum
--------------- Henderson

Middlesbro are defensively sound but lacking in attack. We should win 0-2.

Did we have the same team and same manager for those 7 games ? I hate stats like that, they have zero meaning.

No, but some places you struggle regardless. This stat includes both Houllier and Rafa.

Klopp is obviously the man to change that horrible record.

I seem to remember losing there at around this time of year under Houllier. I think we were in the hunt for top spot and the defeat signalled the beginning of the end of another challenge.
