Presumably the footage that goes along with this sequence of events will be screened sometime today...

#c4news I am doorstepping former Sun editor Kelvin Mackenzie over his #Hillsborough lies.

alex thomson@alextomo
#c4news am at his home in Surrey - alrge detached house, Mercedes 4x4 in drive

alex thomson@alextomo
#c4news K Mackenzie told #c4news to "f**k off"

alex thomson@alextomo
#c4news called again and he said "you're not setting the agenda Alex"

alex thomson@alextomo
#c4news I asked why he was afraid and he said "I'm not afraid" as he disappeared further into his house having shut the door

alex thomson@alextomo
#c4news I asked why he's disregarded his own journalists over Hillsborough headline 'The Truth'. He did not answer.

alex thomson@alextomo
#c4news doorstepped K Mackenzie again by jamming self between him in driver's seat and open car door

alex thomson@alextomo
#c4news K Mackenzie tells #c4news "Please Alex, this isn't reasonable". Declines to expain himself over Hillsborough

You know, I've always wondered how MacKenzie is regarded within the journalistic profession. Maybe this is a clue. Macca, any comments?

Depressingly popular, I'm afraid. There are the sensible ones who view him as the sewer rat that he is, but he seems to be romanticised by a surprisingly large proportion of hacks as a great old-fashioned 'news' man.

Interesting, though ultimately not a surprise. One can only assume Alex Thomson doesn't share the general view then.

This man richly deserves to be taken to task. He's going to get a lot of flak and deservedly so, I expect he'll dob in his old boss as well when the heat gets too much.

I predict he'll make a lot less appearances on TV. Even with a skin as thick as his he's going to be questioned endlessly.

Tbf the usually cuntish Adrian Durham pulled no punches, saying he despised working with him & they often argued, & that all his staff were threatened by him & were afraid to speak up.

One of our ex players (I forget who) said they only spoke of Hillsborough once & he had him by the throat & had to walk away.

Certainly Mickey Quinn was basically told he'd be sacked if he ever mentioned Hillsborough again.

I have a friend who used to work in the media a few years ago, including a stint at News International (technical role, not as a journalist) and he also said that MacKenzie wasn't that bad, though I think he did add 'compared to some', and the 'some' included Paul Dacre, Simon Heffer and Richard Littlejohn. Praise doesn't get a lot fainter than that.

I put a post on the BBC "Points of View" messageboard pointing out that Kelvin McKenzie is not a fit and proper person to appear on BBC programmes.

The post was deleted by the moderators within seconds.

He probably has a filter set up so that no one can say anything negative about him.

Where was Alex Thomson when this sort of thing might have made a difference to the families' fight?

I bet his favourite footballer is John Terry.

Fair point.
Indeed. I was thinking the same thing. It doesn't stop me loving what he did earlier today though. They should bring back the stocks for Kelvin, A few ripe tomatoes and eggs in his face outside the Harry next Sunday?? Or maybe the 'Judas Cradle' or maybe 'The Breast Ripper' (he does does seem big enough.....) - Would 'The Pear of Anguish' seem too much?

Apparantly Mckenzie will be responding to criticism in The Spectator next week. By the way where does the site stand about putting out his address?

I'd be opposed to putting the address up myself, of course it's open for discussion.

After thinking about it for a while, as much as I did enjoy seeing Mackenzie squirm like that I am quite shocked at how a television news correspondent has gone to get that reaction. If it wasn't for it being that cunt, I would be saying the Journo should be disciplined.

I hope tactics like these are a one off, born out of heated emotions getting the better of judgement.

It's been done for years on consumer programmes though, and (importantly) for the same purpose, namely to expose dishonesty. I'm not sure I can see any reason to allow them to do it but not this guy.
