A close friend and recent convert to the Church of Liverpool FC noted that Dennis Bergkamp was the non-LFC player he would have most liked to have seen live, pointing out his goal against Argentina as one of the reasons why. I told him to go watch the clip of his turn and goal against Newcastle - sheer perfect genius.

I started rummaging around YouTube for other top goals and came across a video of Seedorf’s greatest goals and found myself saying (to myself, because my wife couldn’t care less about football of either variety), “Seedorf’s ability to strike the ball is as good if not better than Gerrard’s.” My mouth felt unclean for saying it, but I did my penance and watched it again.

To have hit one or two of these in a career would be noteworthy; he smashed a dozen, including the best long range goal I’ve ever seen.

Any other pure power strikers of the ball that could rival these two?

Pavel Nedved comes to mind. Very similar style to Gerrard actually; he could score from anywhere:

And the obvious one, Cristiano.

Fucking hell, some absolute belters in that compilation.
Never realised Seedorf struck it so cleanly and powerfully.
Impressive part is that he also smacked in a few with his "weaker" left leg as well.

Probably one of my favourite players of all time. Like someone else said a complete midfielder. Pity he quit the Netherland national team early. Probably would have won them them world cup.

So amazingly accurate and powerful in his shooting that he averaged less than 1 goal a season at Real Madrid and scored a career total of .......wait for it.....14 goals

Best midfielder when it came to controlling the ball and dictate the passing game. But not a powerhouse shot.

I actually was on the game against Atletico Madrid, second goal in the video. What a strike. Wow.

He was my favourite non-LFC player for ages. I can't think of any that come close to him and Gerrard when it comes to consistently being able to hit screamers into the back of the net.

Incredible fitness lay at the heart of it all. I read a report once which said that when he joined AC Milan they actually told him to train less because his BMI was so low that they were concerned he'd get muscle-bound if he carried on the way he was going.

As if that wasn't enough, he's a bright guy too. His English is better than that of many English players FFS.

Seedorf is one of those very rare players who could play almost anywhere and be brilliant, because he had absolutely everything as a footballer: quick; strong; great stamina and fitness; super mentality; nuclear-powered shooting; wonderful technique and passing range.
